Ballard High School in Seattle, Washington has triggered a dispute over parental rights when it arranged for an abortion of a teenage girl during school hours without notifying her parents. While the parents signed a consent form to allow her to use the clinic, they never agreed that such trips to the nurse would include an abortion.
The school put the teenager in a taxi and arranged for the abortion at a site another location.
T.J. Cosgrove of the King County Health Department noted that “[a]t any age in the state of Washington, an individual can consent to a termination of pregnancy.”
I have long opposed such a sweeping rule and denial of parental rights. In some states a school needs parental permission to give a girl an aspirin but not an abortion. For a prior column, click here. While I support the right of a teenager to seek a court exception for parental notification, I believe parents have a right to be informed of such a procedure at a minimum.

Ad hominem arguments are the issue. Watch me do a magic trick and see if you can guess the problem yet?
Ratfuck. It’s not just for breakfast anymore.
Why there’s your problem below. In detail.

The site also has a dictionary function.
Happy reading.
We’ll see about the comprehension.
Sick and Tired:
I hope you stay as well, more conservative view points would be welcome. At least by me. But you better not have a thin skin.
And anyway so what if your religion is insulted, do you have such a small degree of faith that it bothers you?
And if most here are against religion and want it expunged from the nation then they really aren’t true liberals in the Jeffersonian model and are just full of horse puckey on individual freedom and rights.
Nope not, Cassandra. Try John Galt. I got tired of irrelevant arguments about whether I agree 100% with objectivism.
Prof. Turley-
I am so dissapointed. You know what you did was wrong. Sick and tired correctly used non-obscene, non-slang terms to, in my opinion accurately, describe some of the other bully posters on this site.
Regardless, the other 99.9% of the post was spot on logical conservative arguments. You took it down because you didn’t like how solid a case she made for conservatism.
Lady Liberty:
why leave? I can tell you from personal experience that they will tear a conservative a new one and rightly so sometimes. But most of the time they will respond thoughtfully and you will learn a good deal and maybe learn that liberals aren’t the whack jobs that the conservative press says they are.
I would just agree to disagree about abortion, it is a very complex subject and there are many nuances. I doubt most here would be for terminating a pregnancy that is 6 plus months along except under the most extenuating circumstances. And I doubt that anyone on this blog would say that late term abortion (34 weeks plus) is acceptable except in the case where the mothers life is at risk.
And it would be nice to have a couple of more conservative view points.
Turley,
I’m glad this gets through:
Former Federal LEO posted this in response to Lady Liberty, which was not removed: “You deserve credit for your recognition of the difference between adults and children with your pro-choice stance for adults, especially since you believe in an anthropomorphic man-god that disperses free will. You demonstrated that you could squeeze in some native reasoning between blind, irrational faith and belief in the supernatural.” This is truly not civil. This is by far one of the most insensitive and rude comments ever posted.
Mespo727272 accused Lady Liberty of “emotional blubbering” and making “childish musings.” Mespo also said her religious ideas were “unworthy of respect.”
These of course were not the only comments left by people who took their time to deride and ridicule another. All the other various posts filled with small insults were left up. Nice to see the “civility” policy works both ways.
You didn’t have time to go through the whole blog, just my post huh? I called one person an idiot and another a coward. Are we to assume on this blog that there are no objective definitions of “idiot” or “coward”? There are dictionary definition for both and I think the people I was responding to fit them. If you censor one, you should censor all.
I didn’t know you were one to censor. Guess according to Former Federal LEO your blog would NOT be considered fair. Interesting. I’m pretty disappointed. It seems that liberals can only “debate” in echo-chambers. Most conservative cites I visit don’t censor, they don’t need to. Maybe you will discuss the censorship of your blog “tonight on Countdown.”
I would just like to point out how hilarious it is that three people on this blog demonstrated its fairness by saying my comment will stay there–last I checked it’s not there any longer. That’s what happens when you put your faith in people.
Cassandra
P.S. To Former Federal, Anonymously Yours, and Canadian: just glad you got to see the post before it was removed 😉
FFELO,
As always, that’s the plain and truthful way of the world. Some day you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you.
Poor Alice would never have got on with the Professor:
“If you haven’t got anything nice to say about anybody come sit next to me.” (Alice Roosevelt Longworth)
It must be something I ate.
Buddha,
Even we conservatives have a bad day–once in a blue moon…

You’re gonna have to change your avatar if you intend to look inconspicuous. 🙂
Ha, HA! The jester got to laugh at himself!
Woo hoo!
Buddha Is Looking Inconspicuous
Sick and Tired (Cassandra) Lady Liberty,
Just post your ideas. There are regulars here who have had their posts removed because of incivility and they are as liberal as they come. Post removals have nothing to do with views espousing conservatism.
Safety First.

Former Federal LEO:
My comments were not allowed to stand…hm think the conservatives are on to something?

Doggone, I missed it … out of the loop again.
Cassandrs K. ada “Sick and Tired”
I am most likely years older than you and far more conservative. My guess is that when you say that you will spit on someone based on comments made, that might violate a civility rule, the only real rule Professor Turley enforces.
Stomping on oneof our National symbols….I would be insulted if it wasn’t so damned funny!
Former Federal LEO:
My comments were not allowed to stand…hm think the conservatives are on to something?
Sick and Tired:
I deleted one of your comments because you resorted to name calling, which violates the civility rule on this blog. We would be happy to hear any of your comments so long as you avoid personal attacks. I have not reviewed the whole thread because I am preparing for a deposition on Friday. However, this blog maintains a strict civility policy.
Byron,
Isn’t ‘Beaver power’ the cause of pregnancy in the first place?
