California State University, Stanislaus president Hamid Shirvani has been under attack for reportedly paying Sarah Palin as much as $100,000 for a speech. Shirvani is now charging that someone stole the contract — from the recycling bin — of one of his vice presidents and has demanded a police investigation.
It seems a bit odd to claim a theft from a recycling bin, but Shirvani says that the five-page document was taken from the office of Susana Gajic-Bruyea, vice president for university advancement. Shirvani stated “Susana threw the pages into her recycling bin in her office some time ago. Somebody either broke into her office to get them or it was somebody who had access to her office.”
Shirvani has been criticized for a lack of transparency and a waste of money in the matter.
The contract might confirm some pretty demanding conditions for Palin who has made over $12 million since last July, here. She reportedly demands large jets, fleets of SUVs, and “bendy” straws, here.

Palin Fans Send Californnia State Senator Racist, Homophobic, Scatological Messages
California State Senator Leland Yee, whose been fighting a state university about releasing information about a contract to have Sarah Palin speak at the taxpayer-supported school, says he’s been receiving nasty emails and faxes as a result. Yee issued a press release sharing some of his love letters.
An expletive-laden fax received yesterday in the Senator’s San Francisco and Sacramento offices says, “To: JoBama Rectum Sniffer Fish Head Leland Yee” and then in all capital letters, “WERE YOU TO EXTRACT YOUR HEAD FROM TREASONOUS MARXIST NIG**R HUSSEIN OBAMA’S RECTUM, YOUR BRAIN WOULD STILL FUNCTION AT ITS PRESENT MUCH DIMINISHED LEVEL BUT AT LEAST THE NIG**R SH*T SMELL WOULD EVENTUALLY DISSIPATE.”
The fax, which included a graphic of an American flag adorned pickup truck dragging a noose, also states “FIGHTING The Marxist Nig**r Thug Hussein Obama” and “Safeguard the Constitution, Death of all Domestic Marxists!”
One phone message Yee received after hours said:
“You know, I heard that Senator Yee wants to nix Sarah Palin from speaking at Stanislaus State…Maybe we ought to have a homosexual with a long enough di*k to where he can stick it up his as* and fu*k himself while he is on stage giving a speech. That would be acceptable to Leland Yee. So, good thing you run in San Francisco ‘cause you’d never make it anywhere else.”

And I am sure the contract was typed in a typewritter with carbon paper. C’mon!! This has got to be the dumbest claim I have ever heard. Did anyone think of looking in the hard drive of the computers and hitting “print”?

“… this President Shirvani sounds like a character straight out of Animal House … as do the Board of Director’s and their fund-raising choices. They are marching en masse down the alley and into the brick wall.”

Mespo,
ishobo and Palin … “Caeci caecos ducentes ” … (I’ve been studying)
rafflaw,
I take Mespo’s words very seriously but honestly, this President Shirvani sounds like a character straight out of Animal House … as do the Board of Director’s and their fund-raising choices. They are marching en masse down the alley and into the brick wall.
Hey Mespo,
Good Evening, I missed your post – nobody does it better so ummmm… never mind!
AY, @2:18pm: “Damn, she must have a problem with denims…”

Isobo, @10:52pm: “Let me smack you with a clue stick…There is no public disclosure requirement.”
There may be ‘no public disclosure requirement’ but there is also no barrier not to comply with disclosure when you have nothing to hide. If fact the University President stated there were no papers, records, or contract existing to disclose. That’s different, and it appears he was obfuscating. This will change.
From the AP:
All members of the Foundation’s Board except one and most of the staff are University employees. CA State Senator Leland Yee has sponsored Legislation that would require campus foundations and auxiliary organizations to adhere to public record requirements. The measure passed the Senate in January an awaits an Assembly hearing.
“There is not a fine line or even a blurry line between the foundation and the public university; there is absolutely no line,” Yee said.
ishobo:
A private educational foundation for the university is the one that made the contract. The university gives it space on campus for its operations. No tax payer money is being used to pay for her speaking engagement, which is being used as a fund raiser for the foundation. The foundation is paying the university to accomodate the event. Certain members of the university administration also sit on the foundation board. There is no public disclosure requirement.
Palin is an easy target, you do not need to make things up.
**********************
From the articla: The state attorney general’s office announced Tuesday it would investigate the university and its foundation for their handling of the contract related to the June 25 speech by Palin. Authorities said the investigation has nothing to do with Palin herself.
The investigation sparked a new round of calls for greater transparency and financial accountability in organizations embedded within California’s public universities, particularly given the size of their assets.
“Prudent financial stewardship is crucial at a time in which universities face vastly decreased state funding and increased student fees,” Attorney General Jerry Brown said while announcing his investigation.
Somehow the Attorney General of California doesn’t agree with your sanitized and unsophisticated view of the requirements on public benefit corporations such as the California State University Foundation. These creatures of statute are not private educational foundations with public servants sitting on the board as you coyly assert. Rather, they are organized under California’s Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation law and set up for charitable public purposes. This corporation is organized and operated, exclusively for the benefit of, to perform the functions of, and to carry out the purposes of The California State University.(See Charter, p. 1 –it’s available on-line). They are governed by Section 9910 et seq of the California Corporations Code, and subject to State regulation.
Perhaps you should research first and knee-jerk defend later. This is not one of your conservative pseudo-think tanks funding this moron with the champagne tastes, but a public benefit foundation using public funding and facilities. That is why government actors serving in their official capacity, rather than as the foundation board, approved the contract. The State has every tight to look into this stupidity. You should thank your lucky stars they have no right to look into yours.
Ishobo,
Palin is an easy target because she has a bad habit of making up her own facts. It is not a prudent decision by the foundation to pay $100,000 to “hire” a partisan political operative to speak at a Public University no matter which entity is paying her fee. I am surprised that you actually believe the whole “theft” claim. It sounds a little far fetched. But, it probably makes sense to someone who appears to support a serial liar.

“One wonders why there is a provision in a contract with a public entity that calls for confidentiality from the public for its outrageous”
One wonder if one has a brain. It amazes me everyday when folks talk about subjects they know litte to nothing about. Let me smack you with a clue stick.
