Ukraine Legislators Vote on Russian Lease Amid a Torrent of Eggs, Smoke Bombs, and Catcalls

This video shows Ukraine legislators debating the extension of a Russian lease for a military base with eggs and smoke bombs. It appears that Roberts’ Rules of Order is not widely read in the Ukraine.

Speakers at the legislature apparently need gavels, umbrellas, and oxygen tanks. The nice touch was the pouring of glue on the voting machines.

The legislature narrowly voted to extend the Russian naval base on the Crimean Peninsula by 25 years. The vote in favor was 236 out of 450.

The nice finishing element was the tug-of-war between the two sides with a giant Ukrainian flag.

  1. Well for people that the Nazi’s used to guard the concentration camps what do you expect?

  2. Like BIL I would like to see a debate in the Senate rise to that level of passion.

Here in the US we see an endless cavalcade of Senators being bought off be the same lobbyists, false courtesy and endless procedural, antiseptic cloture votes. A couple of coolers full of water-filled balloons on the floor of the Senate would do wonders for the workings of democracy 😉

  3. Robert’s Rules may be out the window, but I’d have loved to see a similar scene at that Goldman Sacks hearing. (misspelling intentional)
