In Mineola, New York, Shoma Otto, 23, allegedly wanted a bit more out of legal assistance. She is accused to stealing a lawyer’s wallet while waiting to be arraigned on an earlier theft charge.
Of course, it is not just defendants. Jurors have also been arrested for courtroom thefts, here.
Otto was in court to face a single count of fourth-degree grand larceny and three counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument. She is accused of using the time before the arraignment to steal credit cards and other items of an attorney’s purse.
She is now also facing a change of third-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny.

Maybe she’s getting poised to claim mental impairment, aka, kleptomania.
ok I’ll risk it, I’m not a lawyer here….
maybe it was 1 good churn deserves another…..;)
But, really, aren’t we all multitaskers when it comes down to it? She probably just forgot to bring a book.
You said purse. In some places like New York, you don’t know if it is a male or females purse. Safe to presume that it does not matter to this person what she steals, if she gets it, its hers.
Whatever happened to the Arapio deputy that stole the attorneys notes?
Can we really expect the general public to act differently?
Truth is stranger than fiction.
You cannot make this sh*t up – well, I can safely say this chick has quite a large set of brass ones!
