Tough Audience: CEO Passes Out During Biden Speech

First there was the confrontation with a manager over an ice cream cone and taxes. Now, Jim Campbell, the President and CEO of General Electric’s Appliance and Lighting Division, passed out during a speech by Biden.

I have to say that it was a bit bizarre to see Biden struggle to get back to his prepared remarks after such a scene. There really is no requirement to finish your speech when a guy passes out next to you.

  1. How anyone can blame Biden for this guy fainting is beyond me. It looks to me like he’s being carried off, but glad to hear he was able to walk under his own steam. He clearly didn’t doze off from boredom.
Being bored by a politician in front of a camera or other audience is not an unusual occurrence. If you want substantive discussion, watch PBS McNeil News Hour or Fareed Zakaria’s GPS on CBS Sun. a.m.
Most of the time pols are putting on a show. Is this really a surprise to anyone?

  2. He might have been worried that the veep was going to swear at him, give out his home address, or some other fascist stunt.

  3. stan,

You are correct sir. I was thinking Socrates and typing Aristotle. Thank you.

  4. It’s interesting that no one at Biden’s talk or on this site asks if the guy who fainted is alright. Do we have any idea what happened?

  5. It was Plato’s teacher Socrates, not Aristotle, who is said to be killed for heresy. Actually, he was given the choice of either being banished from Athens or drinking hemlock, and chose the latter. I think the charge was “corrupting the youth,” which he didn’t deny.

  6. Nooooooo! Good gravy, raff. That scares me as well. šŸ˜€

    It’s just that I don’t have mespo’s e-mail and this was a skinny thread.

  7. Buddha,
You are worrying me when you bring up Plato during a speech by Biden! Does that mean Biden is ahead of his time too??

    mespo,

I ran across this and thought you might find it of interest. Apparently Plato had a very advanced “hidden philosophy” he encoded into his work. This hidden work predicted the Scientific Revolution 2,000 years before Newton and contained the view that mathematics rule the universe, not gods. Needless to say, he hid these views purposefully given his teacher Aristotle was put to death for heresy. Here’s a link to the .pdf of article.

That Plato never ceases to amaze me at how far ahead of his time he really was.

  9. cool headed bean… I thought he handled that very well!

  10. Now if we could just get more politicians to pass out before they start to speak.

    That would be progress.

  11. first the GE CEO, next the economy. They put the lights out on everything they come in contact with.
