“Baby Bong” Mother Claims Innocence in Allegation of Getting Baby High

Rachel Stieringer, 19, is facing a firestorm criticism after she posted a picture of her baby with her bong. While the picture seems to show the baby smoking the bong, Stieringer insists that it was a joke and notes that there was no bowl on the bong.

Stieringer expressed anger on her Facebook page to the person who made the photo public: “If u look at the picture, u can see that there is no bowl in the TABACCO (sic) pipe. And i took a pic to show one (expletive) person and it was a mistake. I would never let him get high. . . .Do you realize how serious this is? I can go to jail, and he can be taken away from me. Why would you do something so (expletive) stupid? I’m so nice to everyone. Why would you do this to me?”

If there was no bowl attached to the bong, I fail to see the basis for the child abuse charge after tests for drug exposure of the baby came back negative. Stieringer tested positive for traces of marijuana and is now in both parenting classes and drug counseling. Usually, recreational pot use is not a matter for drug counseling in criminal cases but this is clearly a mother trying to do all she can to keep her child.

Stieringer has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

  1. i’d be more concerned if the child (the toddler not the mother) had a cigarette. they’re actually addictive.

  2. QUOTE “recreational pot use is not a matter for drug counseling in criminal cases”

The article says the test came back negative on the kid, so WHY are they going through all the BS?? (Good ol revenue)

  3. That “mother” should be going to a very, very thorough parenting class. Another example of kids having kids and making bad mistakes. I have to agree with Blouise that this was nothing to joke about. When will people understand that in this world when you take a picture or make a video, it isn’t going to be private?!

  4. I am able to find humor in almost any situation but I fail to see the joke in posing one’s child with a bong and them posting said photo so that others may share the laugh.

Oh well … the jokes on her I guess.

  5. In wake of the Scientology case, what if the girl claimed to be a Rastafarian?

This question sponsored by The War Against Personal Freedom, running strong since 1963.

  6. She is lucky, there are some states which still have on the books, whether enforced or not, that is a parent is convicted of misdemeanor drug charges the state may petition for termination of parental rights. I think it was part of the War on drugs…
