Getting Redressed: Florida Man Receives $650,000 For Injury During Striptease

Remember the prior story about the man, MIchael Ireland, who sued in tort after he was poked in the eye by a stripper’s high heel at the Cheetah Club near West Palm Beach? Well, he just won a $650,000 settlement for the negligent performance of a striptease.

Ireland was laid low by a stripper named “Suki” after her heel punctured his eye socket and broke bones around his eye and nose. The serious injury left him with permanent double vision (I will not editorialize).

Strippers appear to be generating a growing number of lawsuits these days (here, here, and here). Indeed, we have previously seen tort claims based on the dangerous trajectory of high heels from strippers, here.

  1. Had the woman been a consumate professional this incident would have been avoided:

  2. This gentlemen will probably get some redress but not quite as severe as Mr.Ireland.

He has some “splainin” to do:

“Yonni Barrios becomes the 21st miner to be brought to the surface. Yonni’s wife did not attend the rescue after discovering her husband had a mistress of 10 years. The two women met at a vigil when the wife questioned why the other woman was crying out her husband’s name. “

  3. Whatever happened to assumption of the risk?

Like a baseball, baseball bat, or golf ball hitting spectators?

If they put up warnings: Danger Flying Clothing Hazard, BYOP (bring your own protection)

    Could that minimize liability?

Or how about mandated stripper insurance, like a Peek & Poke policy?

  4. I wonder if they are going the put the award in his undies? Regardless, the man suffered a serious injury and the award is merited no matter how it is delivered.

  5. Next up in California (if prop 19 passes): Your honor, Plaintiff requests strict liability instruction be given to the jury. This is a case where the manufacturer had to know that their glass bong under normal use would reach temperatures hot enough to burn human skin.

It’ll be funny to see what comes up as some of these things start to move more into the mainstream.

  6. Wootsy it may be sooner than you think if not temporarily.

Richard may be coming to town to chase you away.

I guess I don’t see much funny about this. The plaintiff suffered a serious injury. The case doesn’t sound frivolous.

“…he will probably give it away a dollar at a time.”

I dunno Bdaman, sounds like he’ll give it away in nipples and dimes…

But, none the less, that lawsuit sure was a shoe in…

  9. I guess they figured that this was a terrible head injury.

Ironically if he wasn’t thinking with the other head this probably
would of never happened. Now with his settlement I’m sure he will probably give it away a dollar at a time.

  10. This is just a scam….I am trying to figure out which scam is worse….It seems that things are busting out all over….It was never explained to me that this was what would poke your eyes out….I have learned something today already…..

  11. “Ireland was laid low.”
This guy is really on top of things I tell ya…

    “he just won a $650,000 settlement…” What’s wrong?
Hasn’t he ever heard of an eye for eye????

Do you suppose her legal services were
    quid pro quo???

Did Suki get to debrief her lawyer?
