Since Professor Turley is snowbound in the Winter Wonderland, the weekend warriors are back to bring your blood pressure up!
I have been critical of the Right Wing Mass Media for its continual banging of the drum of hate towards President Obama and the Democrats in general. Now, there are times that the Democrats and President Obama should be called on the carpet. For instance, for not confronting the Bush torture crowd and for claiming that the President has the authority to kill American citizens without due process, just to name a couple. However, the civility that President Obama has asked for in his latest speeches, have gone unheeded by many on the Right and some on the Left.
We all succumb to the emotion at times and say things that we shouldn’t, but the Right seems to carry these statements to an extreme and they are unapologetic for it. Yesterday, fans of Rush Limbaugh faxed death threats to California State Representative and San Francisco Mayoral candidate, Leland Yee, because Lee had requested Rush to apologize for Rush’s ill-tempered and racially charged comments about the Chinese President during his recent visit to the United States. Rush mocked President Hu Jintao’s speech and Mr. Yee “..said Limbaugh owes the Chinese community an apology for his “pointless and ugly offense.” ‘. http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/crime/2011/01/leland-yee-receives-racist-death-threat
You can guess the result of State Rep. Lee’s request for an apology from Rush Limbaugh. He continued his rant and mocked Rep. Lee on the next program. I know some of you will want to know why the authorities believe that Rush’s fans are behind the death threats. Take a look at one of the faxes on the link below and you will understand. Rep. Lee received similar threats in April of last year that are also being investigated.
I would put the fax on here, but the language is a bit “rough”. See below for a link to the faxes in question. Those who continue to voice their ugly rhetoric in the mass media have a responsibility for the result of that rhetoric. I for one think they are getting the response that they are looking for. What do you think?

Chan:
You must have mistaken me for someone who does not care. I think you mistake me for someone like you. Sorry, sport, but I don’t cry about the poor and make someone else pay for them. No, no, no, boy. I cry for the poor AND pay for them, AND I don’t wring my hands in despair because of it. Why? It’s called the moral and ethical thing to do. It’s call empathy, it’s called compassion. It’s called having the balls and the common sense to help your fellow man. And, I do believe that even as a woman, I’ve got a significantly larger pair than you do, child.
Son, if that’s your definition of ethics, allow me to tell you that your life is going to be one big pain in the arse; a life of self-inflicted pain. You are quite the greedy, selfish and obnoxious little piss-ant.
Just remember, karma’s a bitch, wee one.
Chan,
I know you don’t think any of us are liberal in a conservative’s idea of a true liberal, but you still haven’t give us a reason or fact to support that claim. What are you trying to say that I and other progressives don’t believe that a person has to rise and fall solely on his own with no help or assistance from a government. Of course, that is totally false. One can believe in helping his fellow man without making him lazy or subservient to government. If you think that then you must not be in favor of any tax credit or break for millionaires or large corporations because they must do it on their own, right? You probably think that unemployment compensation makes people lazy, which seems to be a Right wing talking point these days. Of course, that is not borne out by the facts, either.
“longtime president”
First of all, you’re the one who admitted you are greedy, greed boy. You in fact took pride it by somehow interpreting what is widely considered a character flaw at best, a pathological condition at worst and a sin by almost every religious tradition in addition to being ethically and philosophically untenable under any sane definition of ethics and philosophy as being a reflection of . . . self-reliance. Accuracy and admission. If you weren’t greedy? You shouldn’t have admitted it. And who would admit to that but one who is that?
Self-rationalize much? You? Yeah. Just a little.
Secondly, academia? Oh this is much worse than an academic environment. This is a reflection of the real world. No one is insulating you from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or competing ideas. In this instance, slings and arrows hurled by your superiors both in terms of academic achievement and raw intellect. You poke the bear in real life? You get bit. You don’t get to ask your instructor for a do-over on exams. If, in your case more like “when”, you are wrong? You will take a hit for your errors. Just like you do here. Actions have consequences, actions which include being wrong and a liar. And as SL pointed out, payback is a bitch. Your karma will eventually run over your dogma too, but I digress.
As to your third point? Very cute, but in an insane asylum? The inmates may think the doctors are a sentient shade of blue or Napoleon. Or a blue Napoleon filled with strawberry butter creme. It doesn’t invalidate their diagnosis as being a malfunctioning person who may be spouting nonsense.
As to insulting my genes? Awwww. That’s just weak. I’ve had worse attacks from better attackers and nary a drop of my blood was spilled. Seriously, I’m so immune to that kind of attack that trolls fear my name. Some have feared me so much that they tried to hire me. Besides, I’m not the one who demonstrably and repeatedly acts with shallow emotion, a complete disregard for the rights of others, selfishly, self-justifying, evasive, a callous lack of remorse, an overinflated sense of self-worth (you do think you’re special as exemplified by your “greed is good . . . for me, screw everyone else” mentality), attempts to be manipulative, pathological lying (for example, by deliberately misusing and misapplying well established political science and legal terminology – which is also incredibly stupid considering your audience here) and a complete failure to accept that your actions have consequences. You know – the traits commonly exhibited by sociopaths. The traits exhibited by you – time and again. Speaking of consistency.
A demonstrable sociopath insulting anyone’s genes is one of those pot and kettle situations, sport. My genes? Oh, they are springtime fresh and dazzlingly clean by comparison to yours. Now pardon me while I laugh my ass off at your “genetic assessment”. It’s about as valuable as all your other assessments; historical, political, legal, economic and otherwise. To be clear, both on the value of your statements and reasoning?
It’s total crap, Self-rationalizing Greed Boy.
You’re not only not very bright and unable to argue your way out of a paper bag, you’re a repulsive person on top of it. But don’t worry! You’ll run into some smarter than you lil’ sociopathic gal who’ll hook up with you, use you and possibly even let you breed. Just don’t be shocked when you catch her sleeping with your dad. Amoral greedy birds of a feather flock together. Just like Hillsdale attracts the kind of “conservatives” like your former and longtime resident George Roche III.

Propagate? Why that would be my choice and that of my current sexual partner and none of your business. At least I learned how to choose a proper course of action from a caring family and at institutions that don’t advocate – by demonstration in leadership – sleeping with one’s own daughter-in-law.
You have no credibility here nor do your bad ideas, factual distortions, gyrating self-rationalizations or that ridiculous “school” you’re so proud of attending.
If you had an ounce of sense, this would be the point where you ride your unicycle off into the sunset, boy.
So I guess that means I’ll see you later, dancing monkey.
Stamford Liberal:
then so be it. I would rather dive in a dumpster and eat garbage than be the object of forcing someone to give over the money they made to sustain me.
It’s an ethics thing with me, you and most here wouldnt understand. I practice what I preach. And I dont cry about the poor and make others pay for them.
Consistency is not the hobgoblin of small minds.
Chan:
Child, you strike me as being just as bright as Craig T. Nelson when it comes to capitalism. Thus, I felt the link was appropriate.
Just remember the words you live by: Greed is good. And, if you are ever in a position where you find yourself starving and living on the streets, you will expect others to be charitable towards you. By your own words and beliefs, you are asking others to depart with that which they worked hard for. So, if everyone were to live by your creed, don’t be surprised if you find yourself freezing your ass off and Dumpster diving for your dinner.
Payback’s a bitch, kid.
Gyges:
“Well, I think that says all that about needs to be said.”
that is the first intelligent thing you have written.
“The fact that you think I need to help my fellow man and that I should be forced to by threat of jail is proof of that.”
Well, I think that says all that about needs to be said.
rafflaw:
“revolutionary ideas by patriots who actually wanted to be free of imperial fiat and made sure that the government cannot infringe on individual rights, sounds pretty liberal to me. Even by today’s standards.”
only problem is you dont really believe in them. Oh superficially of course and so do most progressives. They are for gay marriage and abortion and other things that I would agree with but they dont believe a person owns his own life.
So I have to disagree that you or most people on this blog are liberal in the true sense of what it used to mean. The fact that you think I need to help my fellow man and that I should be forced to by threat of jail is proof of that.
SL:
I dont think so, I have never been on food stamps or welfare and would starve first or I would go beg in the street. At least that way the people giving me money have a choice as to whether they want to help me or not. They arent forced to.
The Solipsistby Troy Jollimore
Troy Jollimore
Don’t be misled:
that sea-song you hear
when the shell’s at your ear?
It’s all in your head.
That primordial tide—
the slurp and salt-slosh
of the brain’s briny wash—
is on the inside.
Truth be told, the whole place,
everything that the eye
can take in, to the sky
and beyond into space,
lives inside of your skull.
When you set your sad head
down on Procrustes’ bed,
you lay down the whole
universe. You recline
on the pillow: the cosmos
grows dim. The soft ghost
in the squishy machine,
which the world is, retires.
Someday it will expire.
Then all will go silent
and dark. For the moment,
however, the black-
ness is just temporary.
The planet you carry
will shortly swing back
from the far nether regions.
And life will continue—
but only within you.
Which raises a question
that comes up again and again,
as to why
God would make ear and eye
to face outward, not in?
Bob,
Yes. Worst consequence ever.
Reading through Chan’s posts, I couldn’t help but think of this:

Could this be an all grown-up Chan in the future??
first of all you are the one that calls me greed boy.
Secondly this is not an academic environment.
Thirdly I am a sociopath in your sick world view. The inmates of the insane asylum think the doctor is sociopathic as well and for the same reason.
I hope you haven’t reproduced, that sick shit you peddle shouldn’t be intergenerational.
Buddha,
What happens if I get addicted? Do I turn into comic book guy on the Simpsons; with a wheel barrel full of tacos getting ready for that Dr. Who Marathon?
(cue foreboding music)
In Re: “The location of consciousness.”
I say it’s a toss up between the transcendental unity of apperception or… The Solipsist.
Buddha,
great and sobering video!
Chan,
revolutionary ideas by patriots who actually wanted to be free of imperial fiat and made sure that the government cannot infringe on individual rights, sounds pretty liberal to me. Even by today’s standards.
Bdaman,
No argument on Egypt. It’s a dangerous situation. On the upside though, the ME might end up with some actual democracy and a taste of equity if it doesn’t burst into flames first. Now if only we could restore democracy and the rule of law here.
Bob,
If you want to start with humor in comics? The Tick is a fine place to start. If you want some drama? Might I suggest anything by Alan Moore, but specifically “V for Vendetta” and “The Killing Joke”.
