Taco Belle? San Antonio Beauty Queen Sues Over Effort To Strip Her of Crown

Domonique Ramirez, 17, has filed a novel legal action to keep her crown as Miss San Antonio after pageant officials accused her of excessive consumption of tacos and insubordination.

Linda Woods, a spokeswoman for the Brexar County pageant board, revealed the list of offenses against Miss San Antonio, including the fact that “[s]he was doing a photo shoot and asked to wear her wardrobe from the competition, but it did not fit her. I told her we need to get you on an exercise program. We need to get ready to compete for Miss Texas, just like any elite athlete.” Woods told a radio program that she told her “Get off the tacos, get off the chips and the soda.”

Ramirez was able to secure a restraining order against the pageant in which she notes that she is 5’8, weighs 129 pounds. At size 2, she insists that she is not porky. She alleges that she has been slandered and want to “clear my name.”

Obviously, the defamation angle does not have much promise but there remains the question of the contractual basis for the loss of the crown. However, these contracts are written by pageant lawyers and tend to be quite one-sided. California previously saw a lawsuit over the loss of a state crown. Then there was Carrie Prejean. She lost.

This is not just a reflection of the American litigation system. In China, a woman sued after being barred due to her prior use of plastic surgery. She lost.

  1. yep those brave boys at the alamo, fightin to make texas free, so they could own their slaves and pass them on to their heirs when they died. they left that of the john wayne movie. also from what i heard the alamo the jw movie set has more visitors per year than the real one.

they ought to give carrie prejean some tacos. maybe that’d blow the stick out of her butt.

    Swarthmore Mom:

I’m sure there are tons of better taco joints in SA. I haven’t been there in years but I still remember the fine Mexican food … yummy!

There’s a local couple who run a truck called, “El Charrito”, and have been featured on TLC’s “Best Food Ever – Fab Food Carts.” It may not be SA, but it’s damned close to it!

  3. Stanford, There are plenty of good tacos for her to choose from in San Antonio. My favorite is La Fogata.

“I think this poor young lady has been abused by the pageant and she should be allowed to eat as many tacos as she wants to. Can’t they just let the dress out a little and make everyone happy?”

I fully support this option but she MUST go some place for REAL tacos, not the crap Taco Bell calls tacos!!

  6. If you are going to visit the Alamo be sure and take the “Mission” walk … well, drive … it’s an incredibly peaceful way to spend an afternoon.

  7. Its subject is about San Antonio…..the Alamo, which is there….just in case you forgot…. not the Civil War….not that I don’t care….

  8. Well Vince….If you can’t seem to stay on subject one might take you as a troll….

The internet link to an article from 1996 confirms that blacks accompanied confederate forces as labor support, not for combat. The reports of armed black confederates are sparse and sketchy. No black man ever legally bore arms in the south before 1865, because it was illegal. The handful recruited in desperation in 1865 against strong opposition with in the confederacy never fought. It is a modern southern myth that the slaves loved their masters.

African American labor support became a massive element of the southern war effort after so many white men had been drafted into the army, and after so many volunteers had been “stop-lossed” and frozen in for the duration of the war.

One purpose of the Emancipation Proclamation was to deny this labor support to the enemy. It was overwhelmingly successful, as nearly 2 million fled to Union lines or were freed as the Army advanced between January 1863 and April 1865.

I am really amused by these southern supporters who imagine themselves fighting for the glorious confederacy. Try imagining life as a slave in the Old South and during the war and see how it feels.

Elaine has a good comment in another thread. No reputable historians support the myth that blacks fought for the confederacy.
