Arizona Aims To Make Colt The Official State Gun

We recently saw how Utah was moving toward the establishment of the M1911 as the first official state gun. Now, Arizona is aiming to beat Utah to the prize by naming the Colt single-action Army revolver as its official state gun.

Over 40 Arizona state legislators have called for the establishment of the state gun.

Here is the full bill as far as I can tell:

  1. The Colorado stick figure story leads to this question. What happens when school kids in Arizona start drawing pictures of the official state gun?

  2. eniobob,
Every Republican State governor is trying to outdo the others. The idea of allowing teachers and students to carry guns on campus is just dangerous and stupid. But, I guess you have to consider that Rick Perry is suggesting this! I’ll repeat Buddha’s favorite quote: “Stupid is as stupid does”.

  4. Mike, Frank, et al,

It might be a stupid gesture, but making it isn’t stupid. It doesn’t have any negative consequences that the people that vote for it have to answer for. It does however appeal to a very specific subset of people who are very likely to identify themselves as that subset, and make decisions based on that identify.

I think the most concerning part of the whole thing is that that group is large enough to be worth appealing to.

  5. Sorry, should be Arizona.

You know how those desert states all look and sound the same.

  6. And the official state toy of Pennsylvania?

    The slinky.

And Utah wants to memorialize the colt; so what.

  7. Damn it Frank, you beat me to it and did it more elegantly than I would have done.

  8. Uh oh, that would have been Texas’ official firearm. Nevertheless, they could try to make Winchester repeating rifle their official firearm while Florida better hurry up and make Bren Ten their official firearm.

  9. rcampbell,

And Representative Pearce is worried about illegal aliens … Apparently, stupid fruit doesn’t fall far from the stupid tree:

PHOENIX – The son of a state senator is in trouble with law enforcement once again.

State Senate President Russell Pearce, the architect of Senate Bill 1070 and other anti-illegal immigration legislation, is refusing to discuss the problems his son is facing.

Pearce’s 33-year-old son, Joshua Pearce, is back behind bars. He has been arrested 11 times and is currently being held in jail as he is unable to post his $2,500 cash bond.

According to police, Joshua was still on probation for two aggravated driving while under the influence cases. He was supposed to stand before a judge in January to discuss the status of his probation.

Joshua had several probation violations at the time for moving homes without notifying authorities. He never showed up to court so a judge issued a bench warrant.

Joshua was tracked down and arrested last Wednesday by adult probation officers and Mesa police officers.

In December Joshua was questioned after his week-old baby was taken to the hospital. The child reportedly had a compressed skull fracture but charges were never filed because police say they did not have probable cause.

Sen. Russell Pearce was not available for comment Wednesday night.

We have already chosen our official state moron. It was a close race and he had a ton of candidates including Gov. Brewer, Chief hate monger State Senator Pearce (author of SR 1070) and US Sen. John Kyl, but Brewer is the undisputed biggest freakin’ moron here in the state of Alazona. It’s pretty hard to fix stupid.

  11. People often forget that the Circus part of “Bread and Circuses” included gladiator fights. Fertilization of weaponry is more or less required in a militaristic society.

  12. Frank is correc that this legislator should be voted as the official state moron of Arizona. And with what has been happening in that state lately, he is at the head of a large class.

  13. I suppose it would be redundant to name the moron as the official state representative
