Idaho Passes Strict Anti-Abortion Measure After Sponsor Invokes “Hand of God”

The Idaho House just passed a sweeping anti-abortion bill that grants no exceptions for rape, incest, severe fetal abnormality or the mental or psychological health of the mother. As if to avoid any question of the religious basis for the measure, the sponsor state Rep. Brent Crane, R-Nampa, explained to the House that this was God’s will.

Senate Bill 1165 bans abortion after 20 weeks on grounds of fetal pain. Crane invoked the “hand of the Almighty” and “His ways are higher than our ways. He has the ability to take difficult, tragic, horrific circumstances and then turn them into wonderful examples.” The measure passed on a 54-14 vote and now heads to the governor’s desk.

These measures have proven costly to the state. In the 1990s, the legislator passed an anti-abortion law and “spent nearly three-quarters of a million dollars” unsuccessfully defending the law.

Here is the information on Crane from the House website:

Born 07/02/1974 in Nampa ID; graduated in 1992 from Nampa Christian High School, received a B.A. in Political Science with emphasis in Public Administration from Boise State University 2005; Protestant; Vice President of Crane Alarm Service; family: wife Rochenda, son Keaton and daughter Riley.

  1. Just change Japan to America. The Tea Party is destroying the reflection of the elite and the liberals in this country.

  2. “When you want to attain harmony in Japan, people within the group must behave as if they were Narcissus staring at his reflection in the water. In the case of Narcissus’ reflection a small ripple can destroy the reflection. For the Japanese, because the reflected image of sameness functions as a cohesive element for the group, even a small dispute or confrontation could shatter the narcissistic identification.”

  3. “Sameness in interpersonal relations means a reflection of the other, the basic concept of which derives from narcissism.”

Lot of that going on right here on this blog, sameness of thought and ridiculing of differences too. Hmmmm? Maybe this isn’t such a “liberal” blog after all.

  4. Chan it goes back to the Kamikaze days. You have to be dedicated.
No different than a Japanese man falling on his own sword because he has become a disgrace.

  5. My home is insured for its replacement value, and has been since the day I signed the policy.

Here you go again trying to equal one for another.

Who set the price for the replacement value?

Lets go to your car insurance analogy.

    Hypothetical.

I just got a loan for twenty thousand for a car in which I bought a car for that amount. 30 days after I get in a wreck, the car is totaled. Does the insurance company write me a check for twenty thousand? What happens to the difference between what I now owe the bank (20 G’s) and the insurance check for it’s replacement value. Keep in mind the car will be worth less because of 30 day depreciation and the dealers profit.

  6. “30 years ago I was fascinated by the music of the Beatles. They revolutionized the world of POP music. The reason why their music has reached to that level was because of their originality; Richard Branson, the owner of the Virgin group, brought about a change. in the music and aviation industries. People can now fly with more comfort and less expense and purchase CD’s for less money than before. What the Beatles and Richard Branson have in common is their ability to challenge the system.”

Yep our system is being challenged and the elites don’t like it. So they get the libs to call the Tea Party tea baggers. And everyone gets scared and the elites retain their power and all is as before, a bunch of plutocrats running the show and kept in power by the likes of Buddha is Laughing and Mike Spindell. Who will go to their graves thinking they are saving the world.

  7. Bdaman:

what do you think of this?

“EXCERPT: How do the bureaucrats manage to castrate the Japanese so effectively? The school system is the place where they conduct this process. In order to be a castrated individual one has to cultivate masochism, and this is why the concept of self-sacrifice has penetrated Japanese society to such depths. Self-sacrifice can be seen in such behavior as not taking a long vacation, a willingness to participate in unpaid overtime, the absence of a personal life and death from overwork.”

Just substitute Americans for Japanese. And we all know who runs the school system in this country.

  8. When I buy insurance for my car.

First we are not talking car insurance.

You don’t have an account, you are not building up a cash hoard, not even theoretically.

You obviously have never been to the unemployment office.

Unemployment benefits are based on reported covered quarterly earnings. The amount of earnings and the number of quarters worked are used to determine the length and value of the unemployment benefit. The average weekly payment is 36 percent of the individual’s average weekly wage.[27]

  9. @Bdaman: I am afraid you don’t know how insurance works. When I buy insurance for my car, they take my monthly premiums, starting with the very first one, and use that money to pay off other policy holders that have accidents, pay their building expenses and salaries and marketing expenses, and with what is left over they have their reserves and distribute profits or open new offices.

You don’t have an account, you are not building up a cash hoard, not even theoretically. Every month the premiums are used to pay off claims. If I have an accident, my repairs and bills will be paid by the premiums of others.

The central premise of insurance is that people are willing to pay the average cost of some definable catastrophe every month, a payment that is a small but real loss, in exchange for the security of never having to pay the full cost of that rare misfortune.

Unemployment insurance works the same way.
Your benefits “run out” when you exceed the coverage paid for by the premium, not when some balance in an account is running low. My home is insured for its replacement value, and has been since the day I signed the policy. My life has been insured for a certain amount since the day I signed that policy; the date of my death and the number of monthly premiums I have paid on my house or life will not affect the payouts in any way.

  10. Let me just add

Yes and this creates an account for the individual employee with x amount of dollars that continues to increase as employment continues. Once employment stops the account no longer increases.

This is what it means when they tell you

“I’m sorry but your benefits just ran out.”

  11. Finally, Unemployment compensation is paid for by employees and employers through payroll taxes and it is not a “handout” Another issue that you are missing is that unemployment benefits, dollar for dollar, are one of the best ways to stimulate a bad economy.

Raff for what it’s worth, here’s my understanding.

Finally, Unemployment compensation is paid for by employees and employers through payroll taxes and it is not a “handout”

Yes and this creates an account for the individual employee with x amount of dollars that continues to increase as employment continues. Once employment stops the account no longer increases.
ex-employee then draws unemployment. If the amount is used up and the ex-employee continues to draw because of an extension then it goes into negative territory. One could consider anything in the negative a handout as the employee did not work for it.

Another issue that you are missing is that unemployment benefits, dollar for dollar, are one of the best ways to stimulate a bad economy.

Yes but mostly No. Unemployment $$$ is not the full amount of what one could bring home by working 40 hours a week. It can keep things going because it does circulate $$$$. The problem is if you can make it on unemployment checks and keep getting approved for extensions one could possibly learn to lay around and become lazy.
