Mississippi Man Forgets He’s Naked As He Waves to Underage Girls

Submitted by Mark Esposito, Guest Blogger

Forgetful HermanHerman Broadus is a grandfatherly type who loves interacting with all the local kids. Problem is Herman can’t remember to keep his clothes on.  The Moss Point Mississippi man was arrested by police when  the mother of  two young girls — ages 8 and 10 — complained.  The girls claimed they saw the 70-year-old man “standing naked in the doorway, holding something in one hand and waving to them with the other.”

For his defense, Broadus claims to be a victim of circumstance. According to Sheriff Mike Byrd, his prisoner explained that he was just  “headed to the shower, and got caught up in something on TV ….” According to the Sheriff,  the suspect added, “he forgot he was naked, saw the girls, and waved to them.”

Broadus may have the best take on this situation, when an incredulous Byrd asked him how anyone could believe this fairytale explanation. The alleged pervert responded, “That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.”

Broadus will likely be a guest of the State of Mississippi for about 12 months.

  1. He may have suffered form Alzheimers’s or dementia
And what is also scary is that I live in the state on the right of Mississippi, which is Alabama!!!! 😳

  2. BLouise said, “How about prisons paid for with dementia and Alzheimers prisoners’ social security benefits?”

Social Security benefits aren’t payable when somebody is incarcerated for a felony (assault with a dead weapon?).

  3. I really can’t believe that none of you have ever waved at
someone when you were naked and forgot you were naked. Really,
that has never happened to you? I can’t believe he’d have the door open when he was naked? Who has the door open when their naked?
    Or
Who doesn’t have the door open when their naked?
    Oddly enough he is human
    He was probably BORN naked
like being naked is the worst possible thing for anyone to see.
He wasn’t flashing, they were invading his privacy by looking in his house, what were they looking for? A naked Man? they found one!

  4. Metrocowboy:

You are correct on this one. The guy could be in the early stages. It starts out pretty benignly at first, so the guy could well be telling the truth.

I find it interesting that most here were all for hanging the guy without a full and complete understanding of the facts surrounding the case. The initial posters were for shooting first and asking questions later. Your post brought sanity to a lynch mob.

Thank you for bringing the problems associated with senile dementia to the table for consideration. It is a terrible condition which gradually robs people of their humanity.

  5. AY, Yes, the truth, the whole naked truth and nothing but the naked truth… 🙂

    Who knows…

excerpt from the New York Times artice:

No matter the outcome of Saturday’s arrest, it will likely throw the French political world into turmoil and the Socialist Party into an embarrassed confusion.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a leading member of the party, has been considered the front-runner for the next presidential election in France in May 2012.

Opinion polls have shown him to be the Socialists’ most popular candidate and running well ahead of the incumbent, Nicolas Sarkozy, who leads the center-right party.

France has been waiting for Mr. Strauss-Kahn to decide whether to run for his party’s nomination in a series of primaries, which would mean giving up his post as managing director of the fund.

The view in France was that if Mr. Strauss-Kahn wanted to run, he would have to make his intentions clear early this summer, and most politicians and analysts have been predicting that he would not be able to resist the chance to run the country.
Mr. Strauss-Kahn contested for the nomination five years ago, losing to Ségolène Royal, who ultimately lost a second-round runoff to Mr. Sarkozy. Mr. Sarkozy then arranged for Mr. Strauss-Kahn to get the I.M.F. job, partly to remove a popular rival from France’s political landscape.

  6. Im just guessing but if this old man has never been in trouble before its more than him being an ole pervert…

  7. Well Anon Nurse,

I suppose that you would want to strip everything away to get down to the naked truth….

Then again….when you have the naked truth staring you down…where are you supposed to look….

  8. Well, I think we can safely say the director of the IMF would have a hard time using a defense of dementia. We will be watching this space for updates.

  9. Re: the aforementioned arrest

Not completely OT… (Is there a full moon or something? (No pun intended.) What’s with these naked guys?)

“He came out of the bathroom, fully naked, and attempted to sexually assault her,” Mr. Browne said.

(I’m posting this with some misgivings. Who knows what happened. Innocent until…)

I.M.F. Head Is Arrested and Accused of Sexual Attack
By AL BAKER and STEVEN ERLANGER Published:

    May 14, 2011

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was taken off an Air France plane at Kennedy International Airport minutes before it was to take off for Paris on Saturday and arrested in connection with the sexual attack of a maid at a Midtown Manhattan hotel, the authorities said.

  11. OS,

That is really a sad commentary.

    Justice vs mental health…

Alcohol dementia is probably one of the saddest things, that
I have seen in a senior.

One moment the guy is trying to kill the wife, and
the next minute he’s totally unaware of why his wife
    is bleedy from the face.

And the way these folks change in a nano-second.
Good to bad and back again.

  12. I have worked on a number of cases where the defendant had a dementia, but the prosecution wanted a conviction anyway. There was one memorable case of an 80 year old African-American lady who was sent to Federal Prison by the IRS for alleged tax fraud. She had Alzheimer’s disease and simply did not know what she was doing when she filed her returns on her rooming house. Her overworked and underpaid public defender got a case-clearing plea bargain and off to the BoP she went. We did get her case thrown out, but it was a real horror story while it lasted. Fortunately the BoP doctors recognized the problem right away and got the ball rolling.
