We’ll Search For You When Its Cooler: Texas Manhunt Called Off Due To Heat

Residents in Houston are a bit concerned when Harris County police decided to call off a manhunt of an escaped prisoner because of the heat. The man was arrested for possession and suspected of robbery. However, he was able to get out of his handcuffs during transport and escaped. The police started the manhunt but then called it off because it was just to darn hot.

The escape occurred around noon and police decided the heat was taking its toll on the officers and their dogs. It does not appear that the man waited out of a sense of fair play for the temperature to drop.

  1. “The fact is to think that man can control earths temperature by decreasing CO2 is absurd.”

    Bdaman,

Here’s the problem. Even if CO2 has no effect on global warming its over discharge into the atmosphere by things like auto emissions and burning coal, would still not be a good thing from a health perspective. This is especially true because there are “green” alternatives to be developed. Your reasoning and those of the opponents is tied up into corporate profite. This concept is short sighted in itself because green energy development would expand industry potential to make money, up corporate profits and create jobs.

BTW, I mentioned the 70’s because although the concept far predated the 70′, that was when the prominence of the discussion in pyblic began.

  2. “The fact is to think that man can control earths temperature by decreasing CO2 is absurd.”

What’s absurd that you think it’s about control. The issue is mitigation of an aggravating factor to global average temperatures that IS under our direct control. The technological ability to control weather on a global scale – while theoretically possible – is so far removed from humanity’s current capabilities that it is akin to magic.

The burden of proof of your assertion is still yours to make and is evidenced by the feedback you are getting (and consistently get on this subject I might add), it is a burden of proof you are still failing to meet.

  3. You know, it’s odd because I almost said “Or you could write something dismissive and change the subject.”

And no, it’s not my job. You’re implying that the removal of those two web pages proves something negative. I’d like to know what. If these things are as obviously bad as you think it should be easy. Easier than the spam like copying and pasting of links you insist on using in place of actual conversation.

Come on, for once act like you actually care about convincing other people instead of just intellectually masturbating yourself to articles you long since stopped actually reading or considering.

  4. No Buddha the fact is people have been worrying about weather the planet was heating up when CO2 was 150 ppm and now with it’s current near 400. The fact is to think that man can control earths temperature by decreasing CO2 is absurd.

  5. It’s getting hot in here. Time to go outside 🙂

IS THE EARTH GETTING WARMER? That the earth is growing temporarilly warmer is shown by the mountain gla- ciers. These are made by varying tem- perature and moisture to increase and diminish in size during periods of years that may be found to be more or less regular cycles, and a period of quite general decrease began about 45 years ago. This has continued, with many local interruptions, as in the case of Glacier Blanc, which advanced from 1889 to 1896. The latest report includes 90 glaciers in the Swiss Alps, in Norway, Greenland, the Caucasus, the Pamir, the North West United States, Western Canada. and Africa, and practically all are grow- ing smaller. In the Savoy Alps and the Pyrenees small glaciers have quite dis- appeared.

  6. “Gyges thats your job”

    Actually, badtroll, that’s your job.

You make the assertion of a claims validity – namely that human activity isn’t contributing to global warming, then the burden of proof rests with you. You’ve also been proven wrong time and again on this topic as well by multiple parties. You’d better make your case better than you are now which is simple repetition and evasion.

Unless you’re simply acting as a propagandist, of course.

“Daily weather leads to weekly weather which leads to monthly weather which leads to yearly weather. Yearly weather over time equals climate. So studying weather for fifty years gives you what the climate is like.”

I take back what I said about you. You’re not a moron.

You’re reply is an order of magnitude more stupid than that of a moron. The English language does not a word which can adequately convey the imbecilic vacuous boneheadedness of your reply.

I hope you are young. Young enough to be around during the second half of this century. Young enough to see the catastrophe you helped to create today, because you could not be bothered to learn the real science behind climate change before you shot your mouth off about it. Because you think a fracking weatherman is an expert in climate science.

  8. The results of the new studies were announced today (June 14) at the annual meeting of the solar physics division of the American Astronomical Society, which is being held this week at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

“The solar cycle may be going into a hiatus,” Frank Hill, associate director of the National Solar Observatory’s Solar Synoptic Network, said in a news briefing today (June 14).

The studies looked at a missing jet stream in the solar interior, fading sunspots on the sun’s visible surface, and changes in the corona and near the poles. [Photos: Sunspots on Earth’s Star]

“This is highly unusual and unexpected,” Hill said. “But the fact that three completely different views of the sun point in the same direction is a powerful indicator that the sunspot cycle may be going into hibernation.”

In fact, some scientists are questioning whether this drop in activity could lead to a second Maunder Minimum, which was a 70-year period from 1645 to 1715 when the sun showed virtually no sunspots.

  9. BDAman,

How about an answer as to why you didn’t bother to tell anyone that the NASA thing actually supported man made Global Warming? While you’re at it I’d love an explanation as to why it would be in the best interests of a shadowy conspiracy to remove web pages that actually have the propaganda they’re trying to spread to further their goals.

Also good would be an explanation about what’s so shocking about an organizations website taking down a page that was at least 2 years old. Even better would be an explanation about how one study about the possible results of Climate Change being wrong proves that Climate Change itself is wrong.

  10. How bout Green Peace

New IPCC error: renewables report conclusion was dictated by Greenpeace.

Renewable technologies could supply 80% of the world’s energy needs by mid-century, says the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The Guardian led with the same conclusion:

Renewable energy could account for almost 80% of the world’s energy supply within four decades – but only if governments pursue the policies needed to promote green power, according to a landmark report published on Monday.

Here’s what happened. The 80% by 2050 figure was based on a scenario, so Chapter 10 of the full report reveals, called ER-2010, which does indeed project renewables supplying 77% of the globe’s primary energy by 2050. The lead author of the ER-2010 scenario, however, is a Sven Teske, who should have been identified (but is not) as a climate and energy campaigner for Greenpeace International. Even worse, Teske is a lead author of the IPCC report also – in effect meaning that this campaigner for Greenpeace was not only embedded in the IPCC itself, but was in effect allowed to review and promote his own campaigning work under the cover of the authoritative and trustworthy IPCC. A more scandalous conflict of interest can scarcely be imagined.

  11. Of course we can look to the IPCC for credible info on Climate. The Himalayas will melt by 2035.

Climate chief was told of false glacier claims before Copenhagen

Rajendra Pachauri was told that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessment that the glaciers would disappear by 2035 was wrong, but he waited two months to correct it. He failed to act despite learning that the claim had been refuted by several leading glaciologists.

The IPCC’s report underpinned the proposals at Copenhagen for drastic cuts in global emissions.

  12. So what do you do when your wrong. Move the goal post.

50 million ‘environmental refugees’ by 2020, experts say

By Karin Zeitvogel (AFP) – Feb 21, 2011

WASHINGTON — Fifty million “environmental refugees” will flood into the global north by 2020, fleeing food shortages sparked by climate change, experts warned at a major science conference that ended here Monday.

“In 2020, the UN has projected that we will have 50 million environmental refugees,” University of California, Los Angeles professor Cristina Tirado said at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

  13. This means he’s been studying weather for 50 plus years.”

And that means he knows *zero* about climate issues.

You still don’t understand the difference between weather and climate.

Daily weather leads to weekly weather which leads to monthly weather which leads to yearly weather. Yearly weather over time equals climate. So studying weather for fifty years gives you what the climate is like.

  14. Every day we waste not fixing our carbon issues means thousands more will die from climate change. So, STFU already.

In 2005, the United Nations Environment Programme predicted that climate change would create 50 million climate refugees by 2010. These people, it was said, would flee a range of disasters including sea level rise, increases in the numbers and severity of hurricanes, and disruption to food production.

The UNEP even provided a handy map. The map shows us the places most at risk including the very sensitive low lying islands of the Pacific and Caribbean.

It so happens that just a few of these islands and other places most at risk have since had censuses, so it should be possible for us now to get some idea of the devastating impact climate change is having on their populations. Let’s have a look at the evidence:

    Bahamas:

Nassau, The Bahamas – The 2010 national statistics recorded that the population growth increased to 353,658 persons in The Bahamas. The population change figure increased by 50,047 persons during the last 10 years.

    St Lucia:

The island-nation of Saint Lucia recorded an overall household population increase of 5 percent from May 2001 to May 2010 based on estimates derived from a complete enumeration of the population of Saint Lucia during the conduct of the recently completed 2010 Population and Housing Census.

    Seychelles:

    Population 2002, 81755

    Population 2010, 88311

    Solomon Islands:

The latest Solomon Islands population has surpassed half a million – that’s according to the latest census results.

It’s been a decade since the last census report, and in that time the population has leaped 100,000.

“After receiving his journalism degree in 1957, he became the weather anchor for WCIA’s sister station WMBD-TV in Peoria, Illinois.

This means he’s been studying weather for 50 plus years.”

And that means he knows *zero* about climate issues.

You still don’t understand the difference between weather and climate. Which makes you as much of a moron on the topic as John Coleman. Every day we waste not fixing our carbon issues means thousands more will die from climate change. So, STFU already.
