Combat Pay For Non-Combatants: Administration Paying Extra Pay To Military Serving in Libyan Operations

As previously announced, I am lead counsel representing members of Congress challenging the Libyan War. The White House has insisted that this is not a war and that, for purposes of the war powers resolution, there are no “hostilities” in Libya. Putting aside the appearance of Western forces taking out tanks and coordinating attacks with the rebels, it now appears that military personnel in the Libyan operations are being given extra pay for “imminent danger” for the non-hostilities.

Since April, the Pentagon has been paying an “extra $225 a month in “imminent danger pay” to service members who fly planes over Libya or serve on ships within 110 nautical miles of its shores.” So, let’s catch up. We can bomb a capital city, destroy tanks and enemy forces, and pay personnel hazard pay, but there are no hostilities and no war. It is so because . . . well . . . the President says it is so.

  1. gbk: ” @Dredd, Desolation Row must be the only Dylan tune you know as this is your third reference to it since June 13th.”

If the shoe fits… I can’t hear that passage from Desolation Row (I hear it often, I have it on every disc I’ve compiled for the car) and not think of the administration, only the thought context changes depending on what issue I’m angry about at the time. The faces in the mental music video I construct change but the response the passage elicits from me is always the same. It is the iconic word picture for just about every political administration and their nefarious action I have lived through.

There are few politicians that I have ever voted for that did not eventually evoke that feeling in me. By my simple act of having the secular faith of voting for them they later make me complicit in their moral crimes. I feel ya’ buddy, I sure do.

I would think this is evidence of the Libyan experiment being illegal.
    Anon nurse,
Nice link to the FBI getting caught with the pants down!

  4. Doesn’t this fact bolster the case against the Libyan incursion?

  5. OT, but since someone mentioned “FOIA” requests…

  6. Anyone care to guess which military action resulted in the larges percentage of medals/citations in US history? Come on, guess.

The invasion of Granada! Apparently the action was so fierce that many officers who never even left the Pentagon received combat awards.

That leads to images like this, which is the greater General?

  7. What I like most about this legal action against our insanely power intoxicated president is that the full facts are exposed via law whereas within a FOIA request those same facts would be heavily redacted.

I cannot wait to see this unfold and want the sunshine to disinfect this lying, pathetic louse we have in the White House—who cares nothing about the innocent children he slaughters in other countries. I already rue the day I voted for this Flimflam Man.

  8. A song about this Libyan conflict was written a while back. Here is an excerpt:

They’re selling postcards of the hanging
    They’re painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
    The circus is in town
    Here comes the blind commissioner
They’ve got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they’re restless
    They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
    From Desolation Row

    (Desolation Row, Bob Dylan).

  9. The country is going to learn a great deal thanks to this “challenge” to the powers of the President. That low buzz you hear are rants from inside the CIA’s “Bubble”…

  10. And if there were actual “hostilities” in Libya, would service personnel receive “really imminent danger pay”?

  11. If you say it long and loud enough the people will come to believe that you speak the truth…Atwater, Rove….even Clintons James shot that point home….

    People are easily deceived…

But if I recall correctly there are three levels of pay for even an enlisted man/woman…..base, overseas and overseas with conflict. It is enough to generate at least 70 to 80 a year…that is my understanding why so many young ones are signing up…plus the bonus pay…..

We are pleased to hear that we are not in a war or conflict….

  12. Very good work in opposing Obama the Dictator and his evil regime!

All the War Criminals (Bush, Congress, Mainstream Media, et al) should be arrested for Mass Murder / Maiming and Treason!

  13. I’m glad this is put under the heading of bizarre. Obama is lying even under his own fantasy terms–US personnel have been filmed by AJE on the ground in Libya.

I was struck by a report on IEDs yesterday on NPR. The people setting IED’s are unlikely to get killed. So perhaps when our soldiers get killed by those bombs, their deaths don’t matter. Just like all the civilians the US govt. kills with it’s drones. So glad to hear they don’t matter in Obombaland.

No one, least of all the Congress or the courts should allow such a cruel farce to be taken seriously. This sets the stage for war against anyone the president wishes. The pentagon just got 5 billion more for new drones. Those are meant for more non-wars. Unless this is recognized and opposed by all persons of conscience we will continue to be a dying empire, taking down the people of both this and other nations as our leaders lash out against all life in their death throws.
