We previously discussed how the Saudi government has ordered that men can no longer work in women’s lingerie or cosmetic departments or stores. Such work is viewed as an insult to Islam and, on Thursday, the infamous Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) will be sweeping through stores looking for any male workers. The religious police also recently announced that they will be cracking down on women with “sexy eyes.” So covering up in a burka is not enough if you have Bette Davis eyes. Sheikh Motlab al Nabet, spokesman of Saudi Arabia’s religious police, declared that “[t]he men of the committee will interfere to force women to cover their eyes, especially the tempting ones.”
This is the same group of men who, in March 2002, were accused by parents and witnesses of killing 14 young girls who died of burns or smoke asphyxiation by a fire in their public school in Mecca. The religious police reportedly forcibly prevented girls from escaping the burning school by locking the doors of the school and barring firemen from entering because the girls were not properly covered. They feared physical contact with firemen and police might be sexual enticement.
The latest crackdown includes rules that all-female stores must be blocked from the view of men to avoid passing enticement or excitement.
Thousands of women have applied for the open jobs. In the meantime, the religious police are also promising to crackdown on any interaction of female and male employees, who are supposed to be segregated in department stores with male and female areas.
When Sheikh Motlab al Nabet wakes up screaming at night with frights, this is what he hears . . .
Nal… Great song… But what about Monday Lover….and/or Lonley…….
Crazy is….
Professor, Anon nurse, I have that song on a CD for my car and have always enjoyed it. Thank you for including it.
I came across a front-on face portrait of a very young Ms. Davis some years ago that extended from hairline to chin and fell in love with her eyes. I enlarged it, posterized it and used it as wallpaper for about a year. I’m going through my old discs (a truly monumental task that wil outlive me no doubt) to finally properly archive my stuff and was thinking just in the last several days that I hope to find that portrait and use it again She had the most quirkily (sp?) lovely face….
They can’t cover enough of a woman to abate their self-loathing and fear of sex. I saw a picture just yesterday and can’t find it now. Foreground was a woman in a Burka but she was walking and one of her feet was exposed. In the near background were two men obviously staring down at her foot with THAT look on their faces, somewhere between appreciation and furtive desire. Sad. Sad, sad, sad.

Bettykath: ” Insecure men tend to try to control the women around them. I feel sorry for them… The vice police in Saudi Arabia are one example. The restrictions on women’s health and privacy in this country are another.

Right, their religion has made them hate themselves for their basic human needs and since ghod does not produce a flawed work it must be the fault of the woman, they must believe that and take control of it or else they fail to measure up to the image in ghod’s eye.
“She threrefore became the embobiment of evil and temptation to the Muslims.”
You misspelled “enboobiment.”
pete,
Just for you . . . sans burka.
put jack elam in a burka
Angrymanspeaks,
‘Sucame’? Great new past tense of succumb! Wish I’d said that!
I try; you know? I’m thinking of developing a whole line of words like that. sell usage rights. Hey why not? if “what’s his name?” can try it with OWS…
And I do know; succumbed
I don’t know where that one came from; but I like it too
Raff,
I believe the reason was that the woman sucame to temptation from the serpent in the Garden and then convinced her mate (who was an apparently spineless jellyfish) to eat it too even though they had been warned against it by God/Allah.
She threrefore became the embobiment of evil and temptation to the Muslims.
Wouldn’t you make someone like that second class. Wouldn’t you force them to cover themselves and stay indoors unless escorted by a man to keep her apparently uncontrollable hormonal urges in check.
Wouldn’t you retain the right to beat; torture or even kill such a lowly being if it dared suggest that it should be allowed the same priviledges as humans (men) have. Look at what these creatures have brought us to. If it were not for women; we would all be in Paradise right now.
Well That’s the long and the short of it.
Um…….about that woman-evil; man-good thing…………..Yeh, not in the Bible. Nope sorry. Both were held accountable but God considered his guilt worse because he was supposed to be “the man”. He was the physically stronger one. The one who was here first. (how much longer we can’t say) He was supposed to guide her and teach her about the world they found themselves in. His role was one of leader and protector. (Sorry ladies). He was supposed to say ” No. I will not defy this god who has put us here and given us all this. He was supposed to be the stronger and wiser of the two and he failed himself and he failed her. So who holds the guilt for our present condition? I think any lawywer could make this case.
That which is forbidden becomes more desirable. Let the women show a bit of skin and it becomes less forbidden and less lascivious,
Insecure men tend to try to control the women around them. I feel sorry for them (another sign of their impotence). Just wish they would stop using the power of the state to help them.
The vice police in Saudi Arabia are one example. The restrictions on women’s health and privacy in this country are another.
Can’t hear the phrase “Bette Davis eyes” without thinking of this old Kim Carnes song:
“the castration oolice” (Mike Appleton)
Perfect solution!
Amen to your comment Mike S. Most religions are stacked against women. It is just some who take it a step further.
Seriously one has to wonder if those followers of Islam who believe this crap
are guiltily hyper-sexual. I could imagine what thoughts go through their heads constantly imbued with sex, but in truth I would be horrified at their cruelty and misogyny. I believe that those most preoccupied with sexuality and religion are dangerous perverts. This is not an indictment of all of Islam,
since we see much of this thinking in fundamentalist Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism Fundamentalists are predominantly frightened people, who feel so out of control of their own minds/bodies that they need to control others to avoid “temptation”.
Religion — at least the monotheistic varieties — appears to be the mechanism by which a bunch of scared, weak-kneed guys claim otherworldly powers to enslave and abuse women (and others who scare these weak-kneed guys). Isn’t that the whole idea of inerrant scripture that can only be interpreted literally?
I would suggest to Sheikh Motlab al Nabet that if Saudi men are so lacking in personal discipline and common decency that a woman’s eyes can produce uncontrollable urges, it’s time to bring out the castration oolice.
Instead of going to war over there, can’t we just build a big fence around the whole area until they get their act together with regard to human rights? Think of all the jobs it would create in the fence building industry. They could still sell their oil if we ran an underground pipeline out of the place to the nearest seaport.
Raf, probably another of His classic pranks. I mean look at the one he pulled on Isaac as documented by Jewish recorders of history. Better still, the string of practical jokes He pulled on Job over a dare from Satan. It took 4000 years and MTV before that level of humor was reached again.
Of course, it is all the women’s fault. Did Allah have a reason why women must be second class citizens?
Thank Allah, someone is finally putting their foot down and forcing these evil ladies to stop tempting me. It is a shame that the cost of this reprieve is that the ladies will be allowed to work outside the home but, as long as they do not drive to work and sit only in their section of the bus I guess this is a sacrifice I just have to make in order to be free from their evil ways.
