This may not come as a surprise to many law students or lawyers, but lawyers were ranked second among the professions with the least sleep by the Health Interview Survey — averaging just seven hours. IF you want twenty more minutes, try applying for a position as a forest and logging worker.
We can still point to home health aides as more miserable than ourselves. They get a whole three minutes less of sleep at six hours and 57 minutes. That is a critical three minutes — the difference to finding yourself yawning at work and finding yourself sniping at pedestrians from a rooftop.
Here is the list:
1) Home health aides — six hours and 57 minutes.
2) Lawyers — seven hours.
3) Police officers — seven hours and one minute.
4) Physicians and paramedics — seven hours and two minutes.
5) Economists, social workers and computer programmers — seven hours and three minutes.
The small differences frankly raise serious question about the value of the study. If the profession with the most sleep gains a person only 20 minutes on the profession with the least sleep — it seems like there is precious difference between the professions. Given the much higher average salary among lawyers, the difference in sleep is easily compensated in the profession. Of course, as an average, many lawyers are getting less than seven hours while some are sleeping in like hibernating bears.

If you snooze you lose
I practiced for 38 years and sleep deprivation was not one of the deprivations.
AY – I can see why you have the ‘A’ part, you would not be warmly received before the bench after that. Besides, I though it was an IQ of 61.
Reblogged this on Glory to man in the highest.
I would not have expected that.
Yes… The mind…. Never rest….
Frankly…..only the best and brightest can ever be a judge….. They are covered under the ada…..what do you call an attorney with the iq of 50….. Your honor….
I have heard in Texas their supreme court ruled it was OK for the defense lawyer and the judge to take naps during murder trials. At least they ruled it was not grounds for a mistrial so it must be OK.
I agree. It is time for a nap!
