This morning’s gem from Vice President Joe Biden is his declaration that Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., is a “leading legal scholar.” It just goes to show that you can do great thing if you believe “I’m good enough. I’m smart enough. And doggone it, people like me.”
Just for the record, I wrote a column bemoaning Franken’s instant domination of the Democratic primary over humanitarian and Nobel Prize winner Peter Agre as a sign of what is wrong with our political process. Franken wrote in response that I was suggesting the end of life as we know it.
Franken is clearly smart and has proven a leader on many issues. However, Biden’s tendency to use superlatives where mere adjectives would do has become rather pathological.
Jef. Metz, It is Michele Bachmann that embarrasses the state.

Woosty, I don’t think Biden was being mean. I think he was serious.

My flaw has failed!!!!!!
🙂
actually I’m glad if that is the case….I really do think we have to get the snark and the nasty right out of politics….along w/the lies…
Biden has always been one of my favorites.
I respect Al Franken and would give him serious consideration as a presidential candidate. He’d certainly have more experience going into that office than our last candidate had.
“also for his unusual and precognisant ability to recognize fire….” (Woosty) Well said and in the “Franken style” 🙂
Franken wasn’t even good in Hollywood. He embarrasses his state and the nation. This is how low Congress has dipped.

Woosty, I don’t think Biden was being mean. I think he was serious. From what I have seen Franken does know the law well, and he undoubtedly hires excellent counsel.
He has been one of the leading legal scholars,” Biden said of Franken today, according to the pool report. He also said that Franken “is deadly serious” as a senator. He made the comments while recalling concerns that then-candidate Franken could not be taken seriously as a Senate candidate given his SNL work.
I’ve paid some attention to Franken. He’s real. I’d vote for him.
Woosty, Mike Ciresi, a prominent lawyer, was Franken’s DFL opponent. In the general he faced the corrupt Norm Coleman.
also for his unusual and precognisant ability to recognize fire….
this from your link above…’A Minnesota native, Agre revealed his interest in running but said he was told by state politicos that, in opposing Franken, he is a day late and a dollar short — ….’so, he also dislike George Bush’s policies and
—————————————
and from his bio…. ‘Agre is also active in politics and almost ran for a Senate seat in 2008.’
—————————————
and from Wikipedia… ‘Then on August 29 he announced that he would not enter the race for the Senate seat, calculating his chances of success with a late start to obtain the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party endorsement against the huge personal cost and the termination of his federally-funded scientific –research program and humanitarian service.’
————————————–
He also rabidly disliked the Bush policies and advocated for greater input from the circles of Science….he would have been a needed counter-balance to the ‘God’s chosen’….except he didn’t run.
and I especially like Al Franken for his brazen and ballsy ability to show up and scream “fire” in a burning building….
I didn’t realize the Biden 1 was being nasty……but then that is my fatal flaw….
Biden’s a pathological liar, just like almost all other politicians. And he’s way up on the high end of the spectrum at that. These people are shameless.
Biden can over state things but Al Franken is a great Senator. If you want to talk about legal scholars being overrated then you have opened a can of worms and if you wish to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court for a client then dont chimne in. We have Nine Justices who think that they are legal scholars and they are about to over step their bounds in the health care case. I would put a non lawyer, and certainly a non Ivy League East Coaster who cannot say 33rd Street and 3rd Avenue correctly (tirty turd and a turd), on the Supreme Court. Give me a Hugo Black over any of these schmucks on the Court now. He was a Senator. Or give me an ex Governor, like Earl Warren, or a trial lawyer like Race Horse Haynes. But dont nominate another pull the ladder up constitutional agnostic like Thomas, Scalia, or any of the rest.
Al Franken for the next vacancy on the Supreme Court!
Wow . . . massive css failure.
Woosty, Sorry, I mispelled your name.
Perhaps he did not find Senator Franken to be much of a gentleman, and overcompensated wtih the scholar pleasantry.
Woostie, You can start the Franken in 2016 campaign. I like him and his wife a lot. Met him in 1976. He is self made. He had no legacy at Harvard and he won a scholarship to Blake. He struggled in the Minnesota caucuses and in the long drawn out battle with Norm Coleman.
And you didn’t think game show hosts could find a day job…
I think he’d be a great President 🙂
yes,
‘Franken graduated in 1969 from The Blake School, where he was on the wrestling team. He attended Harvard College and graduated with an A.B. cum laude in 1973 in political science.[10]’

The survival of the fittest adjective falls to the random mutation of the superlative. The bleep goes on.
