Jackie Gleason’s show was also blue collar but a different kind of humor. Louis Anderson – I like his humor. Was thinking of him the other day and wondered what he was up to.

bettykath, are you talking about Jackie Gleason or Louis Anderson? Jackie Gleason has been dead for years. Jackie Gleason was a good friend of President Nixon. Just before Jackie Gleason died he gave a television interview. His face was white. He said President Nixon took him on a tour at an American Air Force base where he saw alien bodies in storage.

btw, Roseanne is running for president w/ Cindy Sheehan as her running mate. Roseanne ran in the Green Party primaries but lost to Jill Stein.

  3. bettykath, I completely agree. Roseanne was the first show to depict true blue collar people. Comedians serve a very important first amendment function. They do indeed say what we’re thinking. They do not abide political correctness for that just puts a pretty bow on the ugly, dark side of human nature. bettykath, the mere fact that men and women can laugh @ the same humor, but also have gender specific humor, should be celebrated, not hidden. I took my wife, daughter and her friend to see Rudner in Vegas and they loved it…I liked it. When my kids were younger[boy and girl] we took them to see Louie Anderson, clean and very funny.

  4. nick s, It could be a male-female disconnect. Rudner is terrific. I also have great appreciation for Rosanne Barr, someone my ex couldn’t stand. In addition to speaking out for women, especially those who are more round than svelte, she also spoke loudly for everyone living (small) paycheck to (small) paycheck. Roseane said out loud what we all wanted to say at one time or another to our spouse, our kids, our boss, our mother….

  5. bettykath, The Stooges are male humor. To a lesser degree, Laurel and Hardy, but I do know women who found Stan Laurel cute. I can’t think of a female counterpart in the humor field. I’ve seen many standup comics, most male but not all. Probably the most female act I’ve seen was Rita Rudner. I appreciated the intelligence of her observational humor, but as I watched the crowd she got much more laughter from women.

  6. hand made steel needles are stronger and sharper than the machine made needles we generally use.

  7. I was reading Mark Twain’s take on Miracles last night, or was it Anatole France. Terrific both.

Anyway, why does God demonatrate his presence through curing hysteria which imitates spinal lesions?

In other words, show us yourself by blinking the sun every hour that clearly is against natural laws.

And then I might believe in supernatural powers by Shaolin monks. I know, you did not ask me to.

    Nice Ha ha anyway.

On the other hand, all babies are a miracle to me, every one.

  8. Why waste a good arm w/ the Cubs? But some real team should sign the monk.

  9. This reminds me of an old Shaolin saying that I just made up.

It is easier to throw a camel through the eye of a needle, than for a poor man to become President.
