Christopher Tyquan Groomes, 26, is the latest husband arrested for shooting his wife. This crime, however, is a bit different in that his wife allegedly asked him to shoot her. Police say that Judy Groomes, 25, wanted to avoid deployment with the Air Force and staged the shooting, accusing unknown burglars in her home in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Staff Sgt. Judy Groomes, 25, received wounds on both of her legs from one round. Both of the Groomes are active military at nearby Barksdale Air Force Base.
Christopher Groomes was arrested on a gun charge. Judy Groomes faces a criminal mischief charge for allegedly filing a false police report.
Before seeking spousal assistance, Groomes was ordered, with the 2nd Logistics Squadron Inbound Receiving Section, to Southwest Asia. She will now have successfully avoided that stint in favor of a stint in a different institutionalized setting.
The victim statement part of the trial could be interesting in this case.

Matt,
If we are wise with wisdom….. Any debt actually owed to the Chinese Government will be paid as agreed…..
If I recall….. Spain or one of those warring countries in the 1500 was the first country to file bankruptcy….. This was after numerous failed attempts of plunder and warring at the same time…. Hmmmmm….. Seem to see some similarities…..now that you ask……
AY,
China keeps complaining that they’re concerned about whether or not they’re going to get their money back. What do you think?
Matt,
Maybe they should….. We should fear China…… They also buy a great deal of our public debt…..

john530: I spent four years in the Navy. MY recruiter went to Class-A liars school. I never met anyone in basic that DIDN’T feel the same way. Once out of basic, things got better, but not to the point of donating four long years.

Military recruiters all lie to the high school kids. It’s their training, and if they don’t meet quota, they’re done being a recruiter which is a relatively slovenly job. BTW – my ex-wife’s father was 20 year army. He spent his last six years as a recruiter. He tried to recruit me, but I joined the Navy instead. Not long after I got out of the Navy, I married his daughter. We got divorced about 22 years later.

I hear that the Philippines are becoming a hot spot……. Seems China thinks they should own it….. We think otherwise…… Oil….Is an issue……
Southeast Asia is not going to be a place we are gonna leave peacefully……

Maybe Japan wants to own it again. I was in Subic Bay a few times. Maybe the U.S. should reopen that base.
Spina bifida isn’t disqualifying for military service, unless it is symptomatic, involves more than one vertebrae, or there is dimpling over the skin. So the recruiter that told you he could get you in, wasn’t lying. Once you would have shown up to MEPS for your physical, if any of the disqualifying symptoms of spina bifida would have been noticed, then a doctor would disqualify you.
Recruiters have no authority to say whether or not someone can go to boot camp based on their mental capacity. People interested in enlisting take the ASVAB and if you score well enough to get a job in the military you can get in, if not, you can not join the military. I am unsure why a reformed gang member shouldn’t be able to join the military, but again a recruiter can only assign that individual a waiver, which is either granted or not, but the recruiter has no say so.
As far as medical reasons, a recruiter can not tell someone whether or not they can join the military if the person has a medical problem. All individuals enlisting in the military are taken to MEPS and given a thorough physical, where a doctor decides if one is fit for service.
So then the problem is not with recruiters, its with a system that puts a lot of pressure on them to make their numbers. Did you know that a majority of recruiters do not volunteer to do that job? They are chosen and forced even if they do not want to, and then if they don’t make their numbers they will likely get bad paper work and be forced out of the military.
A lot of people show up to boot camp out of shape. So what. They are then put in a platoon where they are able to get in shape, and if not, return to civilian life.
,
As far as lying goes, I didn’t meet anyone with whom I served who accused their recruiter of lying to them. I know in my case, my recruiter was very honest with me, and I was still unable to fathom how much I would dislike my time in the military.
You told a story of a person who hated the military after boot camp. Everyone hates the military after boot camp, it sucks. But I wonder if you spoke to him 3 or 4 years later if he would have a different tune.
Please show me all these abuses that are too numerous to ignore. How many people are serving in the military? Close to a million I would guess, so I would imagine that there are a few recruiters who are lacking integrity, just like any other job.
Chris – I suppose I should say only that every recruiter I have ever met and ever story of every recruiter I have ever heard details their dishonesty. Of course there is no way I could possible know for a fact that EVERY recruiter is a paid lair. But I do know that they are paid to hit their numbers and regularly send kids who are totally unequipped to serve off to the service. Recent stories of grossly obese, mentally incompetent and open gang members showing up for basic are too common to ignore.
As for my own service I was born with a spina bifida but the recruiter still tried to talk me into joining until I asked my DI cousin what would happen when I showed up at the San Diego Depot. (nice try to take a shot at me though, 2 points for you). I can also confirm that the other stories I was told about what training I would receive were known false. Many of my classmates joined and their stories contain a constant thread of out right dishonesty. Not just a difference of opinion but misrepresentation.
In my sons case he reported having a dozen kids who could not start basic at Ft Jackson because they either were unable to do 10 sit ups and 10 pull ups or lacked the mental capacity to carry out simple tasks to the point the Army would not take them.
I actually would prefer mandatory service as long as it included actual service for the sons and daughters of the wealthy and well-connected. If the Bush, Qayle and Benson kids had to serve in combat as my son did there would be a lot fewer Viet Nams or Iraqs killing the working class & poor sons and daughters.
Frankly,
Everyone I knew and went to boot camp hated the military after boot camp, but its not meant to be summer camp. There is absolutely nothing a recruiter can tell you to explain what life is going to be like in boot camp. I’m curious to know how you know every recruiter is a liar and should be avoided. These are men and women who have volunteered to serve our country and it is irresponsible at the least to say that they are paid liars. If you have a problem with the way the military is run, well guess what, it is a civilian run military.
The only reason we even have recruiters is because we have an all volunteer force, which I would be willing to bet you never volunteered for. Maybe you would rather get rid of the recruiters and we could just go to mandatory service.
AY – given recent events in China it certainly looks like the seeds of a request to leave are being planted. Our Japanese allies have to be sweating a bit as China flexes its muscles, they have long memories there. I think we are seeing in China the same sort of ‘blame the other’ mentality that Americans are fond of when times get tough.
We could resolve this peacefully if only the wealthy would share a few extra crumbs with workers and if governments trusted each other a bit more. Neither is going to happen in my lifetime. It appears to be shaping up as the Pacific did in the teens & twenties & that didn’t end well
now if we could get Justice regarding those that staged a whole war…..
I hear that the Philippines are becoming a hot spot……. Seems China thinks they should own it….. We think otherwise…… Oil….Is an issue……
Southeast Asia is not going to be a place we are gonna leave peacefully……
Zarathrusta said it all.

Creative thinking within a stupid context.
Future politicians.
Z – lots of kids enlist because they are lost & confused. The recruiter presents a picture of a structure and a future that appeals to these kids. Most suck it up and pay their dues (hopefully coming to understand the recruiter is paid to lie & that there are plenty like him or her in every walk of life that need to be spotted and avoided). Some do not.
The doofus my youngest was engaged to joined the Marines in just this way & came home after basic in tears because she hated the military & only wanted to get out but they wouldn’t let her go. I could see her doing something this stupid if the day comes she is rotated to a combat zone. I’m just grateful they called the wedding off.
If he would shoot his wife to get out of going somewhere in the Far East where he would be near a fox hole, think about the fate of his buddy if he ever got into a fox hole. The wife must have wanted to keep him down on the farm pretty bad.
Duh!!!!! If you don’t want to go to war…. Don’t enlist! DAMN-IT!!!!
I have to admit that I can kind of understand why they did it, but as active duty military, they have a legal duty to report for deployment. Sad situation.
