There is a deeply troubling case out of New Hampshire where attorney Lisa Biron has been convicted on all eight counts of transportation of a minor with intent to commit criminal sexual activity, sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography. The jury took less than two hours to convict in a case with strong evidence and highly disturbing facts. Biron has been identified as an attorney with an anti-Gay Christian group.
Videos taken by a cellphone show Biron and the 14-year-old victim engaged in sexual activity in Biron’s home. Later videos show 14-year-old victim engaged in sexual activity at a Canadian hotel. Biron took the teen to Niagara Falls over the 2012 Memorial Day weekend to meet 19-year-old Canadian, Kevin Watson, who met the teen online. They allegedly smoked marijuana, drank alcohol and had sex. Witnesses said that Biron also arranged multiple party sex with herself and the young girl at her home and that she actively filmed and directed some of the sex.
Brandon Ore, 18, testified Biron took video of the young girl having sex and wanted him to have sex with the young girl on the couch of her living room. He later moved in with Biron.
Notably, he went to the police but when he told Biron, he testified that she drove him back to the police station to recant his statement and accept a misdemeanor charge for a false report.
It is a perfectly horrible record of debauchery and abuse. It is hard to imagine why Biron thought it could remain hidden if these allegations are true — and a jury clearly found the allegations to be obviously true.
The least that she could hope for in a sentence would be 25 years.

Also, “psychopathy is characterized by … egocentricity, superficial charm, manipulativeness, irresponsibility, impulsivity, criminality, antisocial behavior, a lack of remorse, and a parasitic lifestyle.”
My usage is in that sense. The fictional portrayal of psychopaths always being murderers and cutting people up is in error, only some get a thrill from that kind of dominance and control. Others are just remorseless and care about nothing but themselves.

I tend to agree more with Darren than I do with Tony C. as to the root causes of Biron’s problems. If you read the Manchester Union Leader link to the story, particularly the comments section, you see that testimony was give that this woman had “gone downhill” after a divorce. Her actions seem to me to rest more with a personality disorder (possibly narcissistic), rather than with psychosis. Also added to the disturbing mix is that the 14 year old was possibly her daughter.

As Mespo says there’s the rub. The crime is in the 14 year old’s age. Without that you just have some kinky sex. Our interest though must focus on the hypocrisy of providing legal services to an anti-gay group, while engaging in sexual activities that this same group would find repulsive. We see this often I think because true believers seem to sublimate their own sexual drives via religion.

It is tempting to use psychopathy to explain a lot of human behavior, but not the Newt’s persecution of Clinton. That was politically motivated, and the charge was perjury, not adultery. There are other disorders in the catalog–how about narcissism? In the case of Biron, no violence was mentioned, and some 14-year-old girls can be extremely manipulative. Not enough data here to make an analysis, and we’ll provably never hear the full story.

That is one possibility. An alternative interpretation, which I lean toward for such cases, is that she is just a psychopath. It makes more sense, she doesn’t care whether her self-gratification harms a child or not, or the boy for that matter. Psychopaths lie with ease and have no problem persecuting others for crimes they readily commit themselves; consider the revelation that Newt Gingrich was having an ongoing adulterous affair with one of his subordinates the entire time he was scheming to impeach Clinton for doing exactly the same thing.
To me, working for the “anti-Gay Christian group,” (whose mental acumen is already suspect by the nature of their mission) may well have just been the suckers she could manipulate into paying her the most money for the least amount of work, which is what psychopaths seek, and she might have found the grand hypocrisy of working there just deliciously funny; psychopaths enjoy their deceptions and feeling like they are the puppeteers. Psychopaths do not have a conscience, she would feel no cognitive dissonance collecting this paycheck.
To me, psychopathy makes sense of the underage girl, too. Children are just easier to manipulate and hold in thrall, at 14 (or perhaps years earlier, no telling when this relationship actually began) children are extremely sub-rational and manipulable, something psychopaths learn to excel at.
I don’t think there was a twisted conscience, denial, pedophilia, longing for love. To me, everything is explained by average IQ psychopathy.
This is do not condemn least ye be condemned for the same things. People condemn because they deny a final judgment. The military, and legal system are the real religious atheists.

And thats about as far into humor as I can go on this story. I have no idea how a 14 YO gets caught up in something like this. Whatever happens to the abusers I hope that the girl can get whatever she needs to move past this and not be permanently damaged.
Lawyers are hired guns. Most will support any position they are paid to.
