Jon Andrew Meyer Jr. could be the poster boy for gun control. Meyer is responsible for shooting a little girl with an assault rifle. His defense? He was using the assault rifle as a crutch when it released a burst of fire into the ceiling and killed 5-year-old Alysa Bobbitt of Shady Cove and wounded apartment resident Karen Hancock.
The “lead bouncer” insists that he was never told that the weapon was a fully automatic assault rifle when he decided to use it as a crutch in his apartment. The victims were upstairs.
While his fiancée, Victoria Kohout, describes him as a “big teddy bear, she previously secured a restraining order and kicked him out of her apartment. The petition described him as an “unpredictable drug addict” and said that he threatened her with a gun as well as threatening to burn down her house and trash her car. That seems like a pretty scary teddy bear.
He is charged with manslaughter, assault and unlawful possession of a machine gun. It is hard to see how the claim of lack of knowledge of the automatic capability of the weapon will fly in a courtroom. Everyone can claim such a lack of knowledge, but this weapon was in his possession for a while and he is presumed to know its capabilities. Methinks a plea may be in order because he is still in need for a serious crutch to lean on.

‘Gun worshippers’ don’t kill people, jerkoff leftists…..75% of the homicides in this country are committed in inner cities as a direct result if the illegal drug trade…..legalized drugs would cut our homicide rate in half…..and it’s already at the lowest point in a century.

Gun control? The weapon itself was illegal, he no doubt get it from an illegal source, this is more proof gun control doesn’t work……the charge was illegal possession of a machine gun…..he didn’t buy that at Gander Mountain or the local pawn shop. That is a class 3 weapon and clearly not a legal one.

My experience has been is when there is no criminal intent to acutally harm a person, the BS excuses are usually to cover that they were being stupid and reckless with the gun and came up with an excuse that would make them look innocent. Maybe (speculating) he pointed the rifle at the ceiling and thought it was not locked and loaded and tried to dry fire the rifle when it fired.
Using the rifle as a crutch would load the rifle toward the stock (downward), it might be plausable something caught the trigger but that would be the opposite direction of the way the trigger fires. If it was pulled upward maybe.
There is a nuance in some M4 / M-16 rifles where if the action is locked back, that is after the charging handle is pulled back which brings the action backward, the rifle can have the action slam forward in two ways: Either the slide release on the left side of the rifle is pressed or a sharp downward rap is applied to the butt of the gun, but to get it to fire after this there would have to be something really mechanically wrong with the rifle.
But my best GUESS not knowing what type of gun was used or any of the type of circumstances, might be it was possibly what the instructor in this video addresses with his concerns.

SPECULATING, he could also have been loading the rifle and had his finger in the trigger guard, when he released the slide, which jars the rifle a bit, he could have contacted the trigger and since it was full auto it got out of control fast.
