Norfolk County Agricultural High School teacher Marc Mertz has been arrested in a rather bizarre case where he was seen walking around his driveway wearing only a ski cap and googles. What is most interesting about the story is that this is not the first exposure allegations that Mertz has faced.
A woman in Walpole said that she spotted Mertz on this driveway and called police. Given the scene and the weather, it was a chilling sight from both a criminal and climatic viewpoint.
However, the woman reported seeing him in a ski cap, googles and a towel. The last item raises a question over the basis for indecent exposure. It would still be enough for the police to intervene for the man’s own protection but the legal defense was lost when the woman drove back a second time and the towel was gone. She says that now Mertz was completely nude and thrusting his hips onto his mailbox as she drove by.
The mailbox is not being listed as a sexual assault victim at this time but I doubt the mail carrier is going to want to use that box for a while.
Mertz was charged with open and gross lewdness and disturbing the peace.
What is a matter of even greater concern is that Mertz was previously cited for exposing himself to boaters in nearby Natick in 2012. Yet, he remained a teacher at the high school.
I went to this ag school a few years ago and always enjoyed his company. He never gave any indication of sexual indecency to any student and no one ever complained of any strange behavior. It seemed to all of us he was a socially normal guy who probably had something go wrong in his life. Plus, why would the woman drive by a second time? You like what you saw? Oh, and he was an arbor teacher, not a sheep farmer. Get your facts right.
I had Marc Mertz as a teacher and basketball coach in high school . He was an incredibly genuine and kind hearted person usually with a great sense of humor. From what I know about him he probably was doing this as a different way of “giving a middle finger” to the lady who apparently made it obvious she was calling the cops…I’m not saying I condone what he did but he’s a good guy and idk why else he would
Who is the victim here ? Who has been harmed ? Some more stupid laws that really *strange* people have crafted…. When will people mind their own business ? Worry about the authoritarian state that doubled my property taxes over 5 years and made me get rid of my 40 foot bus.

Neighbors doing strange things that don’t hurt anyone make for a more interesting neighborhood. The “attack” on the mailbox was probably done especially for the women who couldn’t resist another look.
I’ll share that story with one of my brothers who is a principal of an elementary school in Belgium. He and his wife walk around naked in their yard all the time to tan or after taking a sauna in a cellar and then jumping in their pool. When I stay with them, I find it awkward but that’s only because I’ve lived in the States for a long time. Oh, no, my brother’s mailbox is inside his house, so I assume he doesn’t assault it and doesn’t need to given his wife is a fun and sexy partner. As for tanning and swimming nakedly: try it out, it’s very sensual. Nothing like swimming on a hot day in a cold pond, river or lake. I don’t like the fact that the woman returned and then claimed she was in ‘shock’. Puritans are annoying people.
