The Singapore government is supporting the National Library Board in the plan to destroy a children’s book detailing the real-life story of two male penguins raising a baby chick in New York’s zoo. It appears that the government views “And Tango Makes Three” to be nothing more than penguin perversion.
Now banned are “And Tango Makes Three” as well as “The White Swan Express: A Story About Adoption” (discussing a lesbian couple) and “Who’s In My Family: All About Our Families.” Minister of Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim enthusiastically supports the book ban, stating “The prevailing norms, which the overwhelming majority of Singaporeans accept, support teaching children about conventional families, but not about alternative, non-traditional families, which is what the books in question are about.”
It appears that the Ministry has joined a long line governments in banning books to fight an idea. It has been proven to be a fruitless endeavor but government continue to hold back ideas that they find threatening or different. Regrettably, it is another U.S. ally that is moving against free speech in the name of public decency.

Jimm22. Squeeky, samantha,
Oppression… none of know it, or do you?
Samantha, You hit the nail on the head w/ the shoot from the hip “Homophobe” label. That word used to fly around here a lot more prior to the January 2014 housecleaning. So did racist, sexist, sociopath, etc. There are remnants of that radical militancy, but believe me it is much better than it used to be. Everything is relative. A year ago you would have had guest bloggers pouncing on you like hyenas.
samantha
What is it that you fear about homosexuality that causes you to retch?
Squeeky,
Of course it’s never intolerant hate when you espouse it…
Jim22
if you look at the homosexual group as a species
= = =
The Nazi’s tried that approach. How’d that work out?
Knauer, get off my butt! So what if I have an aversion to alternative lifestyle? They and you all reject mine. So there. You can’t have it both ways. You must be terribly frustrated, as one who is dissatisfied with his significant other who is not independent, not a thinker, not codependent, and so you show up here to hound and victimize.
Max, homophobia is the catch-all word you guys use to label and demonize those who won’t swallow your Kool Aid. I simply have an aversion to Brokeback Mountain lifestyle, the same as I have to many other things and people, and no differently than you have an aversion to mine. By the way, my aversion was non-existent until I saw the movie, Brokeback Mountain, exemplifying how bringing attention to alternative lifestyle works against you. I didn’t make your bed. You all and Annie Proulx made it on your own when you hijacked Hollywood to shove it in our faces, glamorizing filthy behavior. You wouldn’t like it so much if I shove my lifestyle on you, so where are you coming from that gives you license to force yours on me? What’s so wrong with just living your life and leaving others out of it? Are things that dismal and boring for you all?
Negative, curmudgeon people are quite IRONIC!!!!! When you let me know something that pisses you off, Pete, YOU WILL GET MORE OF IT!!!
@max – 1
Oh, take your “intolerant hate ” and “homophobe ” stuff and stick it where the sun. . .uh er uh never mind. Look, this is a free country (somewhat) and I don ‘t have to play like what these people do in their bedrooms (or on parade floats) is just peachy to me and then gush and carry on like I think it is all just all soooo cute or something.
Like I have said before, I am not a homophobe. I am a “homo- phedup” because I ‘m fed up listening to all their crap.

Max-1 – “I always find it interesting that homophobes use children as their social shield to wield their intolerant hate through.”
I find myself thinking the same thing about the gay movement.
I read something a while ago that put forth the idea that if you look at the homosexual group as a species, the reason the homosexual message is being pushed so hard on our youth is that it is the only way they can survive since the can not create new life. They have to convert.
As for religion in this debate, I don’t know if a study is out there or not but when I hear people demonizing it I always wonder if you looked at an Amish or similar group would you find the same percentages of rape, murder, disrespect, suicide, hate etc… as we do in our wonderful progressive world.
Squeeky,
Just remember your homophobia speaks about more about you than it does about the people you hate…
… p.s. HATE IS THE CHOICE.
“Teh Gaystapo”
Out to HOMO-SEX-YOU-ALL…
… Eh Squeeky?
JUST weenies?
… Someone’s got an unfulfilled fantasy.
@NickS
Amen to zealotry!!! The Gaystapo doesn ‘t just want us to tolerate them, we are supposed to CELEBRATE where they put their weenies and tell them how prooouuuuddd we are of how they achieve their climax. Like H#LL!!!

I always find it interesting that homophobes use children as their social shield to wield their intolerant hate through. What about the child? What is the lesson? And of a gay child? The purpose of using children? Depression and suicide? That is an outcome these homophobes care not of…
Squeeky Fromm, Girl Reporter
Why let people promote aberrancy to little kids???
= = =
Childish people abhor rules.
= = =
Just please don’t claim the innocence of a child, too.
mine is irony, as in zealotry, in all caps, with an exclamation mark.
Most gay people merely want to be left alone and not be harassed. However, there are militants who want to try and impose their sexual mores on our culture. Again, zealotry is the problem in my mind. Not, religion, not homosexuality, ZEALOTRY!
Squeeky, Those penguins do have a gay swagger to them.
Communists controlled a large part of this globe w/ an atheist ethos. They tortured and murdered hundreds of millions of people. Zealotry is the problem.
Jim Jones was hardly a church leader. To qualify as one of his sheep, you had to have either a Social Security check or a welfare check. And since men were denied welfare, explains why he had very few men in his flock without a check. If you believe Jim Jones was a preacher, then you would believe the devil is Jesus.
