Iran Bans Permanent Forms of Contraception and Advertising of Birth Control

Ali_Khamenei, Iran’s parliament has continued to follow the religious dictates of the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali no matter how bizarre or repressive. So, when Khamenei ordered people to procreate “strengthen national identity” and counter “undesirable aspects of western lifestyles,” the parliament responded by banning permanent forms of birth control like vasectomies and tubal ligations while also banning advertising of birth control in the country.

Khamenei direction to procreate reverses the earlier policy of “fewer kids, better life.” If that seems an odd contradiction, just remember that is why he is “supreme.”

Khamenei wants to reverse a decline in Iran’s population. Some reformists however believe it has a different purposes. Iranian women continue to seek higher education and leadership roles. The new directive is viewed as a conservative effort to force women back into more traditional roles.

Of course, it also denies one of the most basic human rights over privacy and individual rights in the area of procreation. However, when you have an individual setting government policies in the name of good, such individual rights become virtual blasphemy in the eyes of the faithful.

    And before you go on to criticize playing Barbie dolls, I also read to, put together puzzles, make cookies, tell stories, and take walks, etc, etc etc. with my grandchildren and they love coming over to my house and I love having them.

  7. Samantha, my granddaughter is five years old and not hyperactive in the least, we were sitting on the floor dressing Barbie dolls. I give my grandchildren lots of attention and love. If I take a few moments away to comment it doesn’t take away from the MANY hours I spend and have spent with my grandkids. I can multitask, learned how to do that when a nurse and a mom of four young children. It’s pretty flipping insulting for you to suggest I would drug my grandchildren so I could comment online. I suspect you have no children at all, so Samantha get busy populating America yourself before casting aspersions on mothers and grandmothers. My granddaughter stayed the night and has long since gone home, so you need no be concerned I am neglecting her.

Can’t have women not getting pregnant every year and going and getting educated and having minds of their own and succeeding in careers outside the home and earning their own money and not being dependent on their fellas…and all.

    Grandparents that I know can’t keep up with their grandchildren, and they enjoy spending time with them, not quarantining them. What did you do, put yours on Ritalin so you can go online and comment? Can they even wait to get back home?

  16. I see that this thread very quickly degenerated. Controlling access to contraception has nothing to do with discouraging uncontrolled lust. It has everything to do with the exercise of power. And the principal function of conservatism, whether expressed in political, social, economic or religious terms, is and always has been to control the distribution of power.
