Officials have informed Ohio State student Anthony J. Wunder, 21, that he will be stripped of his full scholarship as a result of his running on to the field in the second quarter of the game between the Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bearcats. The incident went viral with pictures of assistant Buckeyes coach (and former OSU linebacker) Anthony Schlegel tackling Wunder. It appears that linebackers never truly forget their techniques or training.
Wunder was hauled away by Schlegel and security staff. The mechanical-engineering student is believed to have been inebriated at the time.
He has a rather curious scholarship under the Evans Scholars program for college students who served as golf caddies. I had to check that twice, but that is what is being reported. This scholars programs is for golf caddies? They even live in the “Evans Scholars” house, where Wunder has now moved out from.
A website states
“The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for golf caddies that is renewable for up to four years. Each year, more than 800 deserving caddies across the country attend college on a four-year scholarship from the Evans Scholars Foundation. Selected applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent grades, outstanding character and demonstrated financial need.”
Wunder is in his fourth-year student in a five-year engineering program
He faces criminal trespassing, which is a fourth-degree misdemeanor punishable by no more than 30 days in jail. Of course, some faculty have been found to have committed such misdemeanor offenses on campus without serious university discipline.
This stunt will prove costly if Wunder loses both his scholarship and cannot avoid a criminal record, even with a misdemeanor.

DBQ, that’s what he did wrong! he didn’t take his clothes off.
bettytkath – I was thinking the same thing. If he had been streaking, he would have gotten a weeks probation and been a campus hero.
I agree with Darren. It does seem to be an out of proportion reaction to a silly college student’s drunken prank. Come on….he wasn’t even NUDE!
I like the Squeeky poem.
What are fields for, but to run on or upon? Yank his scholarship? Horsepoop.
C’mon, Darren, he embarrassed the university, doncha know.
The punishment of losing a scholarship over this incident is unreasonable. Taking away all the personal growth and future from a young man for a college frat prank is a strong overreaction.
This was a good body slam but the ferocious Mike Curtis of the Baltimore Colts NAILED a fan who ran onto the field back in the 70’s and tried to steal the ball.
JT, I’m surprised you are not aware of Evans Scholarships. I worked w/ 2 attorneys @ Clausen Miller in Chicago who went to Northwestern on Evan’s Scholarships. UW has a good Evans Scholarship program w/ their own fraternity house on Langdon Street in Madison. It is a great program that helps middle class and lower middle class young men attend Big Ten Schools.
Talk about over reaction. Rape a female colleague and she gets in trouble. Run on the field while drunk and .you lose your full scholarship. Good grief!
Justice Holmes ***Talk about over reaction. Rape a female colleague and she gets in trouble. Run on the field while drunk and .you lose your full scholarship. Good grief!***
Golly that’s terrible
Well, his name is just screaming for an Irish Poem! And in Ohio, no less! Round on both ends and. . .
High In The Middle Of The Field???
An Irish Poem by Squeeky Fromm
There once was a student named Wunder.
And boy, did he ever blunder!
But, his fate, it was sealed
When he reeled on the field,
And his scholarship got ripped from under.

I like your poem. No mercy. He will think he can get away with this kind of crap all of his life. I have 2 boys – Well they were boys. They hate me now but they don’t rely on me and own their own businesses and are very successful
Youth don’t respect stupid. That is one of the reasons young people try hard drugs. When stupid adults in power classify soft and hard as all the same and criminalize them, the youth who are overwhelmed with new knowledge and a peculiar critical clarity, skip the reality and ignore the dangers of hard drugs. You can’t bs a kid. This student should probably be punished but to be labelled a criminal is asinine or these days, American.
Double Secret Probation
School probation, NOT court probation.
“This scholars programs is for golf caddies?”
So? I don’t get the point of this comment.
This overreaction is one more pebble thrown in the criminalization of America. All transgressions, no matter how trivial or harmless, must be punished criminally. It’s not going to be long before we criminalize social faux pas. Wait, I think we may have already done that.
What ever happened to putting the little shit on probation for a month?
He got a scot free scholarship idk back when I was young you would have lost it. Don’t know why stupid should be rewarded. For carrying golf caddies lol give me a break
Noonan!
I started lugging golf bags at 12 and there were no Chick Evans (nor Caddie Shack movie) scholarships available then. Am glad to see that there are some now.
Have seen drunk people do many stupid things, especially at college. Not sure running on to the field should rise to the level of losing a scholarship. But there may be more to the story. On the flip side, someone on the caddie scholarship waiting list may have just caught a break.
Well, now we get to see if he is able to take responsibility for his incredible stupidity or blames the University for their decision.
Mr. Wunder apparently failed to understand that his sort of misconduct is excusable only for those holding football scholarships.
The Buckeyes are playing a tune-up team and they are going to take his scholarship away? This kid needs some free legal help. I am not sure running on the field during a non-conference game violates the ‘outstanding character’ rule. I am glad caddies (as a former caddie) are getting scholarships, but I think someone is over reacting. In fact, couldn’t the asst. coach be charged with assault and battery and lose his job? He went on the field, too? This is the sort of thing you pay the referees to handle.
