Despite the fact that the Senate recently voted 98-1 that climate change is real and not a hoax, Sen. Jim Inhofe, who chairs the Environment and Public Works Committee, was back on the floor mocking the notion of climate change this week. Inhofe voted for the earlier resolution but insists that man is not responsible for the changes. Those pushing for measures to combat climate change bring the overwhelming majority of scientists around the world to such debates as well as dozens of studies. Inhofe brought a snowball.
Inhofe tossed a snowball in the Senate chambers to mock the notion of climate change. He also showed pictures of an igloo his daughter’s family built during the snowstorm five years ago and noted that was the same tie that all “the hysteria on global warming” began. Addressing Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, Inhofe said “Do you know what this is? It’s a snowball. It’s just from outside here, so it’s very, very cold out, … very unseasonable.” He then said “Mr. President, Catch this” and threw the snowball. Wisely not trusting the coordination of his colleagues, he threw it to a page who caught the snowball with the skill of Ernie Banks.
As we have discussed, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said last month that 2014 was the warmest year on record. However, climate change does not mean that you do not get extremely cold weather. Indeed, you can have wild fluctuations in weather patterns. Many scientists have documents not just colder temperatures over all but such intensifying patterns. It certainly does not mean that you will not get snow in Washington, D.C.
Yet, Inhofe insisted “We hear the perpetual headline that 2014 has been the warmest year on record, but now the script has flipped.
Of course, even before the GOP took over the Senate, there was little action on climate change. If history is any measure, any substantive legislation has about the changes of a snowball in . . . the Senate.

2014 the hottest year on record.
No wonder our government is in such disarray. Childish games and the worship of ignorance and money seem to be high on the Senate’s list of favorite things. I am sure the Senator hoped to be on the evening news with this stunt.
Things won’t get any better as the GOP has made it clear that scientists are not welcome. They would rather get their science from lobbyists and preachers. Someone should screen Inherit the Wind for them.
Justice Holmes – Scopes was convicted.
I dunno, but 20 years of warming followed by no further warming for the next 15 years doesn’t seem like much of an emergency, nor a pattern except the oldest one.
Pogo your 8 ball comments are ad hominems.
Inga’s Magic 8-Ball says: Ad hominem. Try again.
In science, if you have to “tweak” the raw data to get the desired answer, we call that “dry-labbing.”
Human control of the climate is a reality. For example, see U.S. Pat. No. 4,686,605 (https://www.google.com/patents/US4686605). Another example from the American Institute of Physics: http://www.aip.org/history/climate/RainMake.htm.
But this does not support more government intervention into private citizens’ lives. It is not the civilian population whose actions need be curtailed. It is the activities of the military-industrial complex that do.
All this climate change talk is Hegelian Dialectic (problem-reaction-solution). The Federal Government’s surreptitious activities are the cause of man-made climate change, and they are trying to use propaganda to generate public outcry about that “problem.” When there’s enough public outcry to do something (“reaction”), they will proffer the “solution,” which is greater intrusion into our lives, most likely through carbon-tax or regulations borne of international treaty.
Same as it ever was.
Pogo as a guy in a science related field, your ideas in climate change are embarrassingly backward.
Inga’s Magic 8-Ball says: Wrong topic. Try again.
Let’s restate that:“undoubted warming since 1979, though not since the late 1990’s.”
Means: “Warming from 1979 to the late 1990’s (20 years), no further warming for the next 15 years.”
If GlobalWarming were a business and those were their profits, I’d sell.
Must be that 99% of climate scientists are liars, scoundrels and charlatans. All their data is fake, wrong, manipulated, and not to be trusted. Climate scientists, including those at NOAA and NASA are out to remake the world in their own diabolical fashion because they want America to fail and create a One World Order!!! I get my climate science from some guys who have a website and another one who has a right wing talk show on the radio.
The clueless senator should be informed that weather is not climate. Point the science denying gentleman from OK to NASA: ‘The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere “behaves” over relatively long periods of time.’

I wonder why the good senator did not bring in a handful of dust from the expanding drought conditions in the west and southwest. I guess that wouldn’t have played well to his denier base.

We emit b i l l i o n s of tons of carbon into the atmosphere each year. What, it all just disappears?
Can you imagine a President Walker who can’t even make a comment on evolution? The U.S. would be the laughingstock of the a world.
Global warming is at least half-computer model creation.

Idiot. He makes his entire party look like buffoons.
They (meaning the weather people) are fiddling with the temperature numbers making it seem warmer than it actually is.

INSIDE THE GLOBAL WARMING SCANDAL
We have written many times about the fact that the scientific agencies which are keepers of the world’s historical temperature data are all, or nearly all, under the control of warmists. These warmists have systematically altered historic temperature records, so that the temperatures they report today for past eras are not the same as what were measured, say, 70 or 80 years ago. The effect of these adjustments is strikingly consistent: they almost always make the past look cooler than it was measured at the time, so that the present looks warmer by comparison. The opposite–an adjustment that results in reporting a historic temperature higher than what was published contemporaneously–never, or almost never, happens. These adjustments may or may not be explained; sometimes, they are kept quiet until someone stumbles across the original data and points out a discrepancy.
A man named Paul Homewood, an accountant by profession, has taken it upon himself to research this issue of unexplained temperature adjustments. He reports on his findings at Not a Lot of People Know That. His site is worth checking out, as he is producing a lot of highly relevant data.
One of the areas that Homewood has looked at is Paraguay. In a post titled All of Paraguay’s temperature record has been tampered with, he found that GISS has systematically altered temperature records to make the past look cooler and the present warmer, and to create an entirely fictitious warming trend.

Plus, only a really neat guy would use a powerful prop like that.
The world is warming up for one reason or another. Except if your whole world is Oklahoma, then his argument makes sense. Where do we keep getting these people?
Skepticism is inherent to science. Being skeptical of skepticism is denialism. Inhofe is a joke and his role as chairman makes the U.S. laughable.
