Obama Administration Celebrates National Freedom of Information Day By Deleting Federal Regulation On The Freedom of Information Act

President_Barack_ObamaIt has been years before anyone seriously in the Administration has claimed that it is “the most transparent Administration” ever — as President Barack Obama once pledged. The Obama Administration instead has set new lows for its pursuit and prosecution of whistleblowers and reporters as well as classifying and withholding information on potentially embarrassing actions or programs. For that reason, there was not much surprise that the White House chose this week — with the National Freedom of Information Day and the Sunshine Week — to remove a federal regulation that subjects its Office of Administration to the Freedom of Information Act.

In fairness to the Administration, both President Bush and Obama have rejected requests for information from the office and they have some case support to refusing to share information with the public. However, particularly with the growing controversy over Hillary Clinton unilaterally using her personal server for emails and instructing subordinates to delete tens of thousands of “personal” emails, the timing and symbolism could not be worse.

The liberal Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) denounced President Obama’s broken promises on transparency as well as the specific move to remove the office from information access under the law. Of course, while it may not be required, the Administration could voluntarily make its self accountable to the public. That is, if it wanted to be the most transparent Administration ever.

  1. Obama has continued to pick away at how the Constitution says the government should operate. He thinks he’ll never be impeached. And with our current 535-member Congress, he’s probably right. He’s showing the world our revered Constitution is dependent on everyone doing their duty. And our 535 aren’t doing theirs.

Suddenly we are a country with no respect for law. It only took six years of really dedicated people to completely disregard the Constitution, with the cooperation on Congress.

The only possibility of returning the Constitution to its primary position is Impeachment. And we don’t have people we chose willing to follow the law either. There have got to be some Democrats outraged, though silently. This is about a country! Not a seat in the House or Senate, it’s the continuation of the laws put forth in the Constitution.

I believe the original copies of the Constitution and Bill of Rights on display in DC should be removed, because they aren’t who we are now.

  2. Ha Ha —- YUP, I’m miffed at things the POTUS allows to transpire.

    Chicken!

    BE that as it may, there’s fodder of fun for this day;
as Evander Holyfield and Mitt Romney will box

    Yeah — I Say YEAH!

(If only I could get tag teamed into that match – Talk about a fun’d raiser!)

First of all the structure of our government with two parties, oligarchs that own most politicians, and a complacent to frustrated voter. My respect to leaders is based on two things. Firstly, the lessor of the two evils as in order to be a politician in this and most countries, a person has to lie, cheat, etc. Secondly, exactly what are the results of the moves that the opposition bushwhacks and pounces on?

I find Obama more wanting in light of the expectations he fostered after the eight years of shame and incompetence of the Bush regime. Clinton was a laugh that rode a tsunami of a technical revolution and all the wealth that came with it. Gore would have made the perfect follow up, not too high of expectations but not so arrogantly incompetent so as to lower taxes and plunge the US into two wars. Fiscally the country would have been steady and Afghanistan may or may not have been done better. It couldn’t have been done worse.

One must also realize that for whatever reason the GOP has thrown up roadblocks in front of Obama and the Democrats from day one. This may be in reaction to the ACA or just to hide their shame as in the best defense is a good offense, probably both. The fact of the matter is that the three stooges caused a colossal mess and after a few months the jackals from the right came in to yell and scream blame. After a few years of that, people forget who caused the mess. There is left the smell and the President. If you revisit his first years, you will notice that Obama made effort after effort to work with the GOP. It was stated in print and verbally by the GOP that regardless of the issue, good, bad, or indifferent, the main goal was to get rid of Obama before the election. It didn’t work. How bad can the guy be?

If you take the most fondly remembered Presidents like Reagan and look closely, you will find some legacy to be proud of and some, not so proud. Reagan caused a seven to eight year recession, the biggest until Bush came along. He is primarily responsible for ruining thousands of lives by criminalizing pot smoking, something so innocent compared to drinking and sexual indiscretion that it in itself he is more criminal.

Both Bush and Obama have been arrogant and those that oppose one or the other will focus on that. It would be a good idea, however, to also focus on the level of arrogant incompetence of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld and compare it to the arrogance of Obama. The recession, two bungled wars, and one that was not only unnecessary but became the cause of the mess we have now is the legacy of the GOP. So far, Obama’s ACA is proving to work. It is but a beginning and if followed by strong leadership in Clinton may evolve into something even better. Reflect on what we had, what we have, and what we could have had-Sarah Palin. Mitt Romney-the US is 34th from the top regarding equality of wealth distribution. We have the lesser of the two evils.

  4. James Carville stated that Hillary hid her e-mail from Congress.

    What?

Verbatim, it was, “I suspect she didn’t want Louis Gohmert rifling through her e-mails…”

Is that transparency or freedom of information? Was Hillary a public servant or a queen? What, exactly did Hillary say to Obama, 2 minutes and 2 hours into Benghazi?

Freedom of information to be sure.

  5. mespo727272;

As per the banter that no American has been killed or imprisoned without due process, I take issue with the premise.

Manning, Snowden, Assange, Carmen Segarra, Jeffry Baron, Rodney Stitch, Wayne Madsen, Senator Ted Stevens, Marty Lackner, John (Jack) Wheeler, James Traficant, Rick Convertino, Meryl Lanson

and so many others would take issue with you summarily infer due process remains a constant in this country.

    BULL!

Governor Siegelman. (They want him to come out in a pine box)

Jeffry Baron (even Tom Delay came out of his cave and called for the judges to be impeached in this tyrannical case).
    http://www.texasinsider.org/human-puts-receivership-federal-judge-dallas-texas/

And don’t get me started on due process concerning Goldman Sachs, Bain Capital and Mitt Romney (That even his lordship here is too scared to say).

  6. ” No American citizen has been killed or imprisoned without due process unless they were in a war zone and actively engaged in war against us.”

Apparently this individual does not comprehend the concept of “due process”
and is in total contradiction with his own logic.

  7. Jill:

It wasn’t personal; it simply called your sincerity into question based on your hyperbole. My rights haven’t been curtailed. I can say or think anything I like and so can you as evidenced by your comments here. No American citizen has been killed or imprisoned without due process unless they were in a war zone and actively engaged in war against us. Thus your premise is faulty. That said, there are always grounds to be concerned about loss of privacy in the name of security. Dial back the rhetoric and you’ll appeal to a brighter crowd.

  8. mespo,

Do you have a non-personal attack response to what I said? We are losing our rights. We are torturing people in black sites within the US and in other nations. The president claims he may kill anyone, anywhere on his say so.

I can’t understand how you are O.K. with these and the many other things which are happening. In fact, we do have citizens who applaud Obama, citizens who prior complained bitterly when Bush abridged our Constitution. Do you think that is O.K.? If so, why?

How do you think we can turn things back to the rule of law? Do you think citizens who applaud Obama will be helpful in this endeavor?

  9. A FOIA Optharectumy could give US ALL a clear Offal Orifice View OUT; if NOT for the DingleBarry blocking our outlook!

  10. Karen S…an ICE agent I know, a lovely & tough as nails woman, one whose job it is to accompany convicted felons back to their homelands, has remarked she thinks sooner than later her job will be to just pass out green cards and kiss the miscreants in the process.

  11. I got a question. There is a safety valve to prevent the President from making a law or using a law to hide his conflicts with the law. This is an impeachable office. Why not enact the US Constitution safety valve?
    Article 2 § 1:
The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

    Article 2 § 2:
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

This is the baggage that comes with the predominant profession that prepares someone for politics.

Now and then you say something I can wholly agree with….and that comment is one of them. Good job.
