LawDragon has released the results of its increasingly popular survey of the top lawyers in America. I was fortunate to again make the list this year. This year is the 10th anniversary of the annual report which has become very popular in the profession. I have been honored to be on the list in prior years and it is always gladdening to see so many friends and GW graduates on the list.
The Top 500 Lawyers again includes many familiar names such as the Supreme Court members and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch as well as a few lower court judges like Richard Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. This year also includes fellow academic Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California, Irvine, Law School; Jeffrey Fisher of Stanford Law School; Martha Minnow, Dean, Harvard Law School; Maureen O’Rourke, Dean of Boston University Law School; Deanell Reece Tacha, Dean of Pepperdine Law; and David Wilkins, Dean of Harvard Law. It is wonderful to be in the company of such people and very satisfying to see academics make the list in such numbers.
Thanks again to LawDragon for the honor of the selection and congratulations to everyone who made the list this year.
Here is the listing: Top 500 Lawyers

This has to be a joke. You were among the top 100. What happened? People you associate with sink you? Nothing good going on here. Your reason you exist is egotism. You ever lose that, well, you’ll see what kind of losers brought you down. Clap on the back indeed. Should be a slap in the face for being stoopid.
You have friends?
I scrolled the list. How come 90 percent are from NY, West Coast or DC?
Beldar here has seen some great lawyers in the hinterlands over the past forty years. None of your Supreme Court Justices on this list ever tried a case as a lawyer. Duhhh.
Guinness, And, a family man. I would venture being a family man, like for all us family men, being the top of the list.
Why wouldn’t you make that list.?Brilliant mind? Fair? A decent American? One with courage of his convictions. Most of all, a Patriot, who will not sit idly by, while the Constitution is shredded.
Barkin, Dershy boy is not on the list.
Congratulations! Nice to see that at least a few independent non-hacks made the list!
Bravo, Professor!
Congratulations, Professor Turley!
Kick Derschowitz off that list.
As watchdogs go, more lawyers should be doing this. As a lawyer, regarding technique and other legal stuff, I am not familiar. Congratulations JT.
Congrats JT!!!
Can I say that LawDragon leans left? There is no organization represented that is right of center, or even center on the list. And how do you rate in-house counsel?
It was enjoyable scanning the list. I see both David Boies and his son, Christopher made the list. There are several attorneys on the list from that firm. I think all of SCOTUS made the cut. I did not see any other law bloggers that I know making the cut. Lot’s of attorneys from the mega law firms. A Google barrister is on the list. I hope he “does no evil.”
Congratulations, Prof. Turley.
I have to believe you courageously taking on this lawless President helped. Congrats.
Wow! That’s quite an honor to receive. Congratulations!!
Congrats. No doubt you belong on the list, but how about a column on the absurdity of top lawyer lists, particularly those tied to those who advertise in the publications?
Congratulations and best wishes for continued success! Thanks for writing excellent articles on interesting and timely topics. I look forward to reading your daily posts.
Congratulations! While I don’t know firsthand about your lawyering ability I love reading your articles! Keep up the great work.
