There is a growing controversy in Cincinnati where police had to fight their way into a scene to rescue a white male who was nearly beaten to death at a Fourth of July concert. The video below shows the mob laughing and taunting the nearly dead man lying on the ground. Critics have asked why the beating of the white male by a largely black mob was not immediately identified as a possible hate crime. They charge that, if the situation were reversed, the reaction would have been different in the media and the police. Yet, there is no evidence that I can find that the beating itself was racially motivated. In the end, the behavior of the mob does not have to be racially motivated to shock the conscience as to the lack of humanity and cruelty. Officers were attacked and injured by the crowd as they tried to rescue the unconscious man. While the police at the scene reported the beating as “anti-white,” the police chief later stated that the attack was not racially motivated.
The video itself is quite disturbing as you hear people laughing and enjoying the scene of carnage. It is also worth noting that there are some who can be heard expressing concern and the need for an ambulance.
It is not clear if there was a racial component to the crime and I would not immediately expect a hate crime investigation in such a case. Various blogs however are arguing that the Administration and local officials often immediately pledge to pursue such cases involving a black victim and white officers or assailants as a possible hate crime. I have tended to caution that such early framing of cases can have a distortive or dysfunctional impact absent clear evidence of a racial motivation. For example, while some in this crowd may have been celebrating the fact that the victim was white, it does not mean that the original attack was racially motivated.
Olly, AMEN! Hate crime legislation needs to be abolished. It is Orwellian on many levels, from the “thought crime” component, to the unilateral way in which it is enforced.
Black hate crimes don’t fit the narrative.
I do not understand why there has to be a “hate crime” distinction. A man has been severely beaten by a mob and it DOES NOT matter if they hated him or loved him. It does not matter if this is white on black or green on red or whatever effing color codes are being used today. Do we really need some additional classification to recognize that this man’s civil right to not get beaten into coma has been violated?
Why should I be impressed that “some” (I heard only one voice on the video) wanted someone to call 911? How many of these “some” had a cell phone they chose not to use to call 911? All across this nation cell phones are free to anyone on public assistance so it is not credible to me that those standing around doing nothing to help couldn’t have at least made a call on the Obama phone they got at taxpayer expense.
We are becoming a country of barbarians both in our actions and our sick voyeurism. And that doesn’t have a thing to do with race.
It is not clear if there was a racial component to the crime
Seriously!>>> You can even say this with a straight face???. If it were a black man on the ground and a bunch of white crackers in South Carolina taunting him, it would be quite clear that there is a racial component. The excrement would hit the fan and we would hear NO end of it on the MSM.
Crime is crime and there shouldn’t have to be considered a racial component, but thanks to the liberals harping 24/7 on race and creating the atmosphere of hate in the inner cities (Sharpton, Obama, Jackson) and the Media stoking the fires of resentment from idle people who have nothing to do but drugs, drink and crime….. since we are subsidizing this lifestyle, things like this are only going to get worse.
Buuu buuuu buuu Black Lives Matter……right? No! All lives matter and what really matters is what you DO with your life. This isn’t it.
Even though there are still, just barely, a few people with some humanity left in the crowd to try to get help, the black culture in the inner cities is a lost cause.
Don’t go to the cities. Avoid the area like a plague.
Does it matter what caused the act of terror? A crime is a crime! Violence is violence, no matter what motivates the incident. It doesn’t matter if the crime is racially motivated or just the fact a monster mob wants to get their sick jollies out of beating a person to a pulp. Whatever the motivation, it is an act of domestic terrorism.
I wouldn’t be surprised if statistics showed that there has been more mob beatings since our present president came into office than the past 2 or 3 presidents combined. Or perhaps it’s because we are seeing more of these crimes due to cell phones and You Tube. Nevertheless, it’s disgusting, shameful, and sad to see that it’s usually in a black neighborhood. What a horrible way to live.
detroit, cincy,south central…all cesspools…
He was attacked because he was white!…if you are white, stay the fu** away from black crowds…they are animals and miscreants…steeped in violence!
Ideally, all of these cases should be pursued with open and observant minds and eyes. What was the initial cause of the incident, what was said–we’re so caught up now in finger-pointing and juvenile constructs of fairness and resentment….”but, but, if it was a black guy got beaten–it’s not fair.” Anyone beaten like this has been treated with gross unfairness. Given the composition of the crowd, a race-based motivation has to be considered. Oh, that we could quickly reach the point where a man laying in the street was just a man, not a symbol of pigment-based resentments and suspicions.
If the attack was motivated by a racist comment from the white guy, would that cause the black people to be charged with a hate crime because race was involved in the attack? That would be a terrible unexpected consequence of hate crime laws.
The blacks were delighting in this white carnage…I believe sociopathy is rampant in black society…many are savages…send them to jail…let em’ rot on welfare, schlitz malt liquor and a pack of swisher sweets…and a tub of KFC
There are enough paradigms, precedents, models or whatever one wishes to call them with which to compare this. Black on white, white on black, take the race out of the situation and follow the precedents. Which direction the beating is coming from should have absolutely no bearing on the charges. Cops have been targeted for race related over reaction because of patterns and profiling. This is a one time crime.
There surely had to be enough selfies being taken to muster up charges of aiding and abetting along with the assault charges. Charge as many as possible with as much as can be proven by every law available. The first crime was the assault. The accompanying crimes were the lack of assistance or contributing by egging on. This is no different than when rioters loot stores. Anger and protest have nothing to do with looting or beating up defenseless people.
The law should come down hard. The issue of race and a hate crime may take away from the core of the behavior. There is really no basis to compare this with police behavior. If on a single instance a cop exceeds the necessary use of force than that cop should be charged with exceeding the necessary use of force. If that cop has a pattern of racial profiling then that is when that issue is raised.
The perpetrators should be charged with the maximum that will result in sentencing. These guys are dangerous and should be behind bars. Getting away with it will only make them and other scum like them more dangerous. The law should be enough to make a point here without bringing race into it. Bringing race into it also brings a certain reasoning that would be an attempt to explain the behavior of these thugs. There should be no explanation other than wanton cruelty, assault, and any and every other law available.
Youtube took down the video because it was “shocking and disgusting?” Isn’t that a reason to leave it up?
This might have been a good place to carry a Taurus Judge with #4 shot.
I’ve found that steel shotshells tend to hang up in my .40.
I hate to say this but if the victim had been black and the mob white there wouldn’t be a discussion about racial motivation. A hate crime would be assumed. Allowing individuals to do whatever they want because of some “group” grievance they have will only lead to more violence. The police and media were wrong to react in the way that they did.
The actions of this mob were despicable. I can only hope the victim survives and that the perpetrators will be charged with attempted murder and a hate crime.
The issue isn’t the racial motivation of the crowd, but rather the racial motivation of our government (and the “Justice” department).
The fact that I put justice in quotation marks is an indicator of the cost to the republic of this administration’s politicization of of the justice system.
