MIT Study Finds That Curbing Carbon Emissions Will Reduce Droughts And Save Billions

220px-Factory_in_ChinaEconomist Brent Boehlert and his colleagues at MIT have issued a new report showing that curbing carbon emissions would represent a huge benefit for agriculture and the nation as a whole by reducing the frequency and severity of future crop-parching droughts and saving American farmers billions of dollars annually by 2100. The study is found in the July issue of Weather, Climate and Society. The study is interesting because the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change has been focused on the hard science side of academia. This is a group of economists who are adding an economic analysis supporting emission curbs.

The study estimates that large-scale climate action would save farmers about $980 million annually by 2050 while more modest cuts would net savings of around $390 million annually. The two scenarios would keep atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations below 500 and 600 parts per million, respectively, compared with 1,750 ppm without mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.

Droughts currently cost the United States between $6 billion and $8 billion a year. They are expected to grow worse in the absence of aggressive climate change action, particularly in other countries. The study found an overall benefit of $2.2 billion a year to U.S. agriculture from aggressive carbon emission reductions.

      July was named for Julius Caesar and its only been a month for about 2000 years so how could it be the hottest ever?

    Or did they fake all this JUST to get us to believe this ‘conspiracy’?

    I mean, if they are dismissable about one aspect about their science, what is there left to believe about their science? Or, why do you feel threatened by science?

      Aren’t the guys who put a man on the moon the same people who set off nuclear weapons in the atmoshphere over Japan, the south Pacific and the desert southwest USA?

      Didn’t they used to have xray machines in shoe stores? Didn’t doctors used to advertise cigarettes on TV?

      For that matter, I thought NASA was devoted to muslim outreach. The only question should be how does climate change affect Mecca?

    2. Max-1 – the people who put a man on the moon were German rocket scientist that we brought in under Project Paperclip. The damn thing went to the moon or it didn’t. The ‘scientists’ involved in paleoclimatology are an incestual group of about 10 who critic each others papers. Their science has NEVER been evaluated by an outside source.

  11. hsk, I’m w/ you. I too would like for it to be an altruistic group. But, notice I said “my bet.” I ALWAYS bet w/ my head, never w/ my heart.

    1. I tried reading one of the studies the other day on mercury contamination. It was so far out of my knowledge base that there was no way that I could discern on my own if the conclusions written about the sturdy were correct or not. Sometimes despite my perceived wealth of knowledge, I have no idea sometimes. It’s like global warming. If it were not for so much of the alleged evidence later being found either falsified or manipulated in some way and having experienced so many previous false flags, I might believe it to be true. What I do know is true, that I am often not knowledgeable enough to determine if something like global warming is real or not. I therefore must rely on others to sure their knowledge. I then must try to discern if their material being presented is true or not. Obviously I try using my head, but admittedly it is not always helpful so I can sometimes in jest let my heart feel good about itself.

  12. hsk, The second wave of email, Climategate 2 in November, 2011, centered around the politics. The lying, deceiving, sabotaging of people who disagreed was sickening to read. These people are not scientists, they are hack politicians looking to feed off the public trough. In many respects, the 2nd wave of emails was more edifying than the first. But, the first batch got most of the attention because of the shock. I would LOVE to know who did the hacking. Probably the Chinese, would be my bet.

    It’s scary when one sees the back slapping drivel responding to the enormity of the problem; the ‘If it ain’t broke, why fix it.’ gang.

    “Latest from Donald Trump “The concept of global warming was created by the Chinese to make U.S. Manufacturing non-competitive.” Really. You can’t make this stuff up.”

    What’s even scarier is the number of people that hear this and for them it fits. The rest of the GOP candidates are watching to see how many respond to this. If enough respond favorably to this Trumpism, then you will hear it coming from them as well. The GOP selection seen from above all looking for a way out of their quagmire, the one they dug themselves.

    Hillary knows how to wade through this muck. That is enough of a reason alone for her to be President.

Global warming is a government meme, just another false flag in a long line like the domino affect and WMDs perpetrated by the ruling oligarchy and their bureaucratic underlings to provide a fraudulent reason for the usurpation of individual rights. Without a perceived problem or enemy those in power have no reason to redistribute wealth. Many Citizens already know that global warming as well as rising water levels are a political scam and many more are learning the truth everyday. Scientists are willing to lie and deceive just like any other group. They have no greater grasp on honesty then the rest of society and some will and have accepted money and benefits just like anyone else.

  16. On a friendly note to ANY music lovers, no matter their politics, I suggest a documentary on Netflix titled, The Wrecking Crew. It is about the incredible studio musicians working almost all the albums made in the 60’s/70’s. Everyone in the music biz knew of these musicians. But, no one else did.

  17. The “science” of paleoclimatology is just a bit over 100 years. There have been investigators for thousands of years. Good investigators seek truth, no matter where it leads. They use deductive reasoning and FACTS. The emails from some “prominent” global warming “scientists” blew their cover.
