Juries generally comes to reasonable results in my view and tend to get cases right despite the criticism that one reads in the media or popular culture. However, there are cases that leave me baffled. Often this is due to the fact that not all facts have been reported accurately, but some are left a mystery. One such case is out of London this week where a jury spent just 30 minutes to acquit Saudi millionaire Ehsan Abdulaziz, 46, of rape. Abdelaziz’s defense? he accidentally tripped, fell on her, and may have penetrated her by mistake.
Abdulaziz met two women at London’s West End Cirque le Soir nightclub and took them to his flat at 4:30 am where they continued to drink. He then had sex with one of the women while the second woman fell asleep on the couch. He says that he went into the room to see if the alleged victim needed a tee-shirt or taxi home when she pulled him on top of her. He said that he fell on her and may have penetrated her at that time. He insisted that she was forcing him on her, put his hands between her legs, and the semen found on the alleged victim may have come from the earlier sex with her friend. He told the jury “I’m fragile, I fell down but nothing ever happened, between me and this girl nothing ever happened.”
The alleged victim says that she woke and found him having sex with her. Later swabs taken from the alleged victim found traces of his semen in her vagina.
There is something else about the trial that is inexplicable. Judge Martin Griffiths allowed Abdulaziz to give evidence in private. This may be a quirk of English law but why allow such an accommodation?
Abdulaziz insisted at trial “I always respect ladies and I have a sister myself.”
Perhaps some of our English readers have more information on the trial but from over here this sounds perfectly insane.

Ehsan, the first name of the perv, also happens to be a very distinctive Muslim name. Despite po’s infamous claims of being fluent in several languages, he obviously doesn’t recognize a name commonly given to Muslim boys in the Middle East. It’s either that or he hopes that no one will challenge his idiotic remarks about how one can be sure that the rapist is Muslim when he is named Ehsan and hails from Saudi Arabia. Perhaps his idea of a foreign language is Pig Latin.
According to statistics, 85-90 percent of Saudis are Sunni, with another 10-15 percent who are Shia. Again, folks, check out po’s obvious lack of grasp with reality. It’s on show here everyday, multiple times each day, with po. Yes, we are to believe that the Saudi was Christian or Jewish. What else could he possibly be?

I have to concur that this sounds howling mad, or corrupt. I cannot understand a reason why a defendant and judge would be alone in chambers. The possibility for wrongdoing seems so strong.

Check the bank accounts both of Judge Martin Griffiths and the prosecutor for a substantial deposit around the time of the trial. Given what appears to be some damning info pertaining to the Saudi defendant, who just happens to be worth millions, let’s just say that the prosecutor MAY have been somewhat lax and not acted with sufficient zeal in seeking justice. MAY. Just a hunch. Any prosecutor, worth his or her salt, would’ve ripped this guy a new one with the laughable testimony like we just read.
English law allows some high profile defendants to testify in private, sometime the entire trial is sealed.

I would like to hear form jurors why they voted as they did. It seems he claimed they didn’t have sex, then when they found his semen in her changed his story. And after that it took 30 minutes to acquit? Either this is outrageous or there’s a big piece of evidence missing from the story.
