In another disturbing example of the abuses that occur in the absence of church (or mosque) and state separation, Pakistani lawmakers have yielded to the demand of Islamic clerics and killed a law that would have imposed real penalties for those who arrange forced child marriages, including raising the legal age of marriages. Clerics denounced the law as “blasphemous” and against Islam.
Some Islamic clerics have maintained that there can be no age limitation on child brides. They often note that Muhammad married Aisha when she was seven and consummated the marriage at nine years old.
The law would have mandated “rigorous” punishment up to two years in prison for those who organize child marriages. The reforms were rejected by a parliamentary committee on religious affairs after opposition from the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) which was formed in 1962 to advise parliament on the compatibility of laws with Sharia. A representative from the CII had declared the amendment to the Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill 2014 as “anti-Islamic” and “blasphemous.” The CII continues to try to shape the nation’s laws in accordance to its view of Islamic values. In 2013, the CII suggested making DNA inadmissible evidence in rape cases and insisted that Islamic law should bar cases where a victim could not provide four witnesses to back their claims.
Marvi Memon, a member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), had proposed the new law including raising the age of consent for marriage from 16 years to 18 years. As we have seen, children below the age of 16 are routinely forced into Islamic marriages in Pakistan.

“This week, Harney County Fire Marshall Chris Briels resigned after discovering undercover FBI agents posing as militia members near the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, which has been the site of a standoff for weeks now. According to Briels, he found FBI agents who were impersonating militia members lurking around the town’s armory. When he inquired about the undercover operation with county Judge Steve Grasty he was told to back off.
Just before this discovery was made, there were reports of people who looked like militia harassing locals, which is uncharacteristic of the protesters who initially assembled at the refuge. It turns out that these militia members suspected of harassing locals were actually undercover FBI agents.
During an impromptu press conference, Briels explained how he was so disrespected in his encounter with Grasty and was so disgusted with the situation in general, that he no longer wants to work for a government that he does not believe in. Briels added that he would still be helping people in the community with fire prevention and other issues that he has helped with in the past, but he will just no longer be doing it as a government employee. Briels went on to describe how he exposed undercover FBI agents who had come to town and were creating problems amongst the locals.
When announcing his resignation, Briels described his encounter with the judge.
“I’ve been told by Steve to distance myself from this committee of public safety. I’ve been told that we don’t know what we’re doing. I’VE BEEN TOLD THAT MY LIFE IS IN DANGER, I’ve been told all kinds of things. I will not be told what to do. I have my own mind, and I will use my own mind, not somebody else’s,” Briels said.”

Morality gets hijacked by PEOPLE with an ideology, not an ideology alone. One can apply the same argument with guns. It is how the people use the ideology that threatens others. The human race can exist with or without religion IF they subordinate their ideology to natural rights. Religion, in western cultures promotes humility and that is the first virtue lost when our western cultures place themselves as the supreme authority. We end up with a culture and by extension a government that believes IT creates all the rights of it’s people.
Those who hold power tend to believe that it is natural, prescribed by god, for them to have that power. So whether we are talking about clerics believing that they know what is best for everyone else, or white males believing that they are naturally superior to women and dark skinned people, or men who believe that animals were put on earth for them to enjoy killing, it’s all the same type of mental gyration of believing that when one is enjoy oppressing others, it is natural, ordered by god, and must never change.
I have a great idea. Are you ready? Are you holding onto your turban or hijab? Let’s bring more of these throwback, primitive, backward, turds into our societies! Yes, open the floodgates and let them pour in. The more the merrier. After all, don’t forget, Islam is irrelevant and has nothing, whatsoever, to do with their lunacy. Simply our imagination and our deep-seated prejudice that prevents us from seeing Muslims as normal, productive members of a civilized society. We are to blame.
