Emails Show Democratic National Committee Officials Actively Undermined Sanders And Sought To Guarantee Clinton’s Nomination

Wasserman SchultzFor months, critics and candidates have been publicly denouncing what they view as open favoritism of the Democratic National Committee (and particularly DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz) toward Hillary Clinton. Even DNC members have objected to the role of the DNC and the view that it is trying to guarantee that Clinton is the nominee. Despite fairly universal criticism of the favoritism showed Clinton (and opposition showed Sanders), Wasserman Shultz and DNC officials publicly denounced any such suggestions of working against Sanders. Now, with the Wikileaks postings, various emails prove that the DNC has been actively working to undermine Sanders and advance their chosen candidate of Hillary Clinton. What continues to shock me is the unblinking dishonesty of Washington. Absent this Wikileaks disclosure, officials would have continued to deny that they secretly undermined all challengers to Clinton. It is sheer mendacity of the power elite in this city that is so chilling.

WikiLeaks posted an email from Mark Paustenbach, the Democratic Party’s national press secretary and deputy communications director, to other staffers discussing how they could create an anti-Sanders narrative that portrays his campaign in disarray and not an acceptable option for voters.

“Wondering if there’s a good Bernie narrative for a story, which is that Bernie never ever had his act together, that his campaign was a mess. . .

“Specifically, DWS had to call Bernie directly in order to get the campaign to do things because they’d either ignored or forgotten to something critical. She had to call Bernie after the data breach to make his staff to respond to our concerns. Even then they didn’t get back to us, which is why we had to shut off their access in order to get them to finally let us know exactly how they snooped around HFA’s data.

“It’s not a DNC conspiracy, it’s because they never had their act together,” Paustenbach continued.

Other emails shows collusion with the Clinton campaign and even an effort to start an attack against Sanders on the basis of his religious beliefs.  For example, a May 2016 message from DNC CFO Brad Marshall suggested that the party should “get someone to ask” Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders about his religious beliefs.

Subject: No shit
It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.
The email was sent to DNC Communications Director Luis Miranda and Deputy Communications Director Mark Paustenbach. It’s unclear who the “someone” in this message could be — though a member of the press seems like a safe bet. A request for comment sent to Marshall was not immediately returned.

So here you have not only a high ranking DNC official actively working to discredit Sanders (while the DNC is expressing shock over suggestions of favoritism) but suggesting a despicable attack based on his religious beliefs.  The emails show both an campaign against Sanders and the falsity of statements made to the public.

A reply to Marshall’s email from DNC CEO Amy Dacey read only “AMEN.”

So it appears that religion runs deep among the DNC staff . . . at least when it comes to destroying Sanders and rigging the election for Clinton. The planned use of a candidate’s religious beliefs or agnostic views against him is a disgraceful and dishonorable act for any party. All of the officials planning such an attack (or staying silent with knowledge of such an attack) should be fired.

At a minimum, in my opinion, Wasserman Schultz should resign in light of these emails and the now reaffirmed allegations of bias at the DNC.  Furthermore, these officials should be immediately held accountable if the DNC wishes to regain any semblance of being an honest broker for democratic voters.

What do you think?

  1. Jill “You did not answer my question about ISIS: Is ISIS evil and should it be defeated?” This is the third time I have asked this question. You have complained that I did not not answer your question yet you avoid mine.

  2. The Only Difference Between Democratic Party & Republician Party is the Name. Both Groups are Run for
the BENEFIT of the 1% and Not the 99% (REGRETABLY). Why do you think we do not have any Debates with the other parties – Green, Communist, Libertain. It ‘s harder to infiltrate these other parties.

I PLAN TO VOTE EITHER FOR THE LIBERTARIAN OR GREEN PARTY .

    God Help us.

  3. SMM,

You never did answer my question but I have no trouble answering yours. ISIS is a creature of USGinc. Of course it is evil and I wish it would be defeated. However, it will not be defeated by the US continuing to bomb Muslim nations, killing civilians, men women and children. This is a strategy of recruitment and leads to more violence under “blowback”..

Part of what would help defeat Isis is for the USG to stop arming them. It would also help if we began a Marshall plan on behalf of the nations we have destroyed in the Middle East. We both know that will never happen under Obama. He has no intention of stopping his wars, weapons sales or doing right by all the people he has harmed.

Now, I hope you will have the integrity to answer my question above, in a straightforward, no nonsense way.

  4. Cent, you portray black people as stupid. Getting an ID in this country because everything requires it. I had an ID for school, where I worked, for owning property, for driving a car (in CA you don’t have to prove you are a citizen, you get a driver’s license instead of being deported, it’s nuts). Did I hear right? You don’t know about what happened in San Bernardino? Nobody is stopping anyone from getting voter ID, Republican Party offers round-trip transportation to get ID in some areas. Why would anyone not get an ID. How about they’re wanted for commiting a crime? How about using an assumed name? If you aren’t willing to make the effort of getting an ID, are you going to make the effort to know what you’re voting for, or does someone give you money with instructions? ID means “I” and nobody else! Lincoln was Republican. Without the Republican vote, the Civil Rights Act would never have passed. Good if our allowing refugees in is difficult, it shouldn’t be easy.

Autumn, I’ve traveled all over. I’m not sure why you ask, but that’s your answer.

  5. Now would you be able to answer why you are upset about Trump potentially commuting murder but only find Obama’s actual murder’s “unfortunate”? Hope this is it, Jill. Actually, it is horrible that these mistakes were made and children were killed. The difference for me is that I actually think Trump is insane and that he is quite capable of doing tremendous evil. He has the look and demeanor of a crazed dictator. Obama is not insane and therefor far less frightening.

  6. Mistakes??? I would pretty much put the whole Libyan deal as an evil act. Look into the people Clinton tried to deal with to restore order in that ongoing humanitarian crisis. No way to spin that heinous deed to make it sound pretty.

  7. What is revealed is nothing more than what happens in every political party or movement when different views clash once the party or movement grows large enough. Remember the split in the civil rights movement? Malcolm X? There will be splits in the Sanders movement with recriminations back-and-forth. If you do not believe it then I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn for you.

  8. So the Democratic party worked to elect the Democrat. Why is this such an outrageous thing? And the same people who condemn this turn around and condemn the Republicans for not doing enough to stop Trump.
As far as using Sanders religion against him: they didn’t do it, did they? Someone came up with a bad idea, and others realized it was a bad idea and shot it down. Sounds like a typical organization to me.
