Emails Show Democratic National Committee Officials Actively Undermined Sanders And Sought To Guarantee Clinton’s Nomination

Wasserman SchultzFor months, critics and candidates have been publicly denouncing what they view as open favoritism of the Democratic National Committee (and particularly DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz) toward Hillary Clinton. Even DNC members have objected to the role of the DNC and the view that it is trying to guarantee that Clinton is the nominee. Despite fairly universal criticism of the favoritism showed Clinton (and opposition showed Sanders), Wasserman Shultz and DNC officials publicly denounced any such suggestions of working against Sanders. Now, with the Wikileaks postings, various emails prove that the DNC has been actively working to undermine Sanders and advance their chosen candidate of Hillary Clinton. What continues to shock me is the unblinking dishonesty of Washington. Absent this Wikileaks disclosure, officials would have continued to deny that they secretly undermined all challengers to Clinton. It is sheer mendacity of the power elite in this city that is so chilling.

WikiLeaks posted an email from Mark Paustenbach, the Democratic Party’s national press secretary and deputy communications director, to other staffers discussing how they could create an anti-Sanders narrative that portrays his campaign in disarray and not an acceptable option for voters.

“Wondering if there’s a good Bernie narrative for a story, which is that Bernie never ever had his act together, that his campaign was a mess. . .

“Specifically, DWS had to call Bernie directly in order to get the campaign to do things because they’d either ignored or forgotten to something critical. She had to call Bernie after the data breach to make his staff to respond to our concerns. Even then they didn’t get back to us, which is why we had to shut off their access in order to get them to finally let us know exactly how they snooped around HFA’s data.

“It’s not a DNC conspiracy, it’s because they never had their act together,” Paustenbach continued.

Other emails shows collusion with the Clinton campaign and even an effort to start an attack against Sanders on the basis of his religious beliefs.  For example, a May 2016 message from DNC CFO Brad Marshall suggested that the party should “get someone to ask” Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders about his religious beliefs.

Subject: No shit
It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.
The email was sent to DNC Communications Director Luis Miranda and Deputy Communications Director Mark Paustenbach. It’s unclear who the “someone” in this message could be — though a member of the press seems like a safe bet. A request for comment sent to Marshall was not immediately returned.

So here you have not only a high ranking DNC official actively working to discredit Sanders (while the DNC is expressing shock over suggestions of favoritism) but suggesting a despicable attack based on his religious beliefs.  The emails show both an campaign against Sanders and the falsity of statements made to the public.

A reply to Marshall’s email from DNC CEO Amy Dacey read only “AMEN.”

So it appears that religion runs deep among the DNC staff . . . at least when it comes to destroying Sanders and rigging the election for Clinton. The planned use of a candidate’s religious beliefs or agnostic views against him is a disgraceful and dishonorable act for any party. All of the officials planning such an attack (or staying silent with knowledge of such an attack) should be fired.

At a minimum, in my opinion, Wasserman Schultz should resign in light of these emails and the now reaffirmed allegations of bias at the DNC.  Furthermore, these officials should be immediately held accountable if the DNC wishes to regain any semblance of being an honest broker for democratic voters.

What do you think?

  1. @J

Love soccer although the final game between France and Portugal was a bore. Yep, we are busy “rethinking” our lives and how to build a viable future for this nation, the world at large and the environment.

  2. Those Bernie-bots should just watch some corrupt FIFA soccerball and rethink their lives. As for the vagina-bots, “How To Lose A Guy In 10 days” movie seems perfect.

  3. @tnash

I know, still it’s worth a try. Bright side is the Demoncrats are finished. At least as they currently exist.

I think it IS too late to reach the UberDelegates.
As the photo (posted yesterday at 3:35PM) shows, they are too well-entrenched, and too well connected.
    And difficult to identify.

  5. Excellent Twitter site: #blackoutbernie

Berniebots are creative and busy folks

  6. The contents of the released emails do NOT change regardless of how those emails came to the light of day. HRC’s people can only weasel this one so far by blaming the Russians and their spin is mind blowing denial to the nth degree.
    I want to puke.

  7. @Jill

Well at least we have not recently bombed a Doctors Without Borders hospital.

  8. So one of the tireless mantras repeated over and over again by the MSM and Hilbots is that Bernie does not appeal to people of colour. Never mind that there are hundreds and thousands of blacks, browns, Asians, bi-racials,etc. who are avid Bernibots.

Bernie started his campaign way behind HRC and given that he took no super PAC $$ he had to spend his resources in those states where he could win. States like SC, GA, MS, LA were a lost cause due to the Clinton brand and low information voters. In addition he knew those states would overwhelmingly vote Repuglican.

As demonstrated by the Wikileaks emails it is clear that the MSM colluded to suppress Bernie.

A great example: when the Demoncratic debate was held here in Charleston I went to the rally – curious to see what kind of folks would turn out. It was amazing – many blacks, gay people, young people, older people.

I wound up getting separated from my friends – it was so crowded and sat by myself in another section. A few minutes later my section was packed with a contingent of young, hip blacks. Curious as always I asked one of the black gals why she was voting for Bernie. Her answer was simple: “Because I found out about him” This group came down from Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC to Charleston – all were friends from USC.

So while the older blacks here choose to remain on the plantation and voted for HRC the young ain’t having her. They visualize a very different future and have thrown off the chains.

So one can only imagine if the MSM and DNC hadn’t blocked Bernie where he’s be right now!!

Not too late to contact the Super Delegates!

  9. Guess what! Trump said he is going to offer Snowden a pardon. Wikileaks won’t report this one. Trump said it in an email to Pence.

  10. @Jill

Progressives who have crashed the DNC party are actively working to support Tim Canova, Zephr Teachout, Tulsi Gabbard, Keith Ellison and others the Demoncrats despise.

  11. @Olly

Nope Progressives are not responsible. Liberals are. “yuuge” difference. Check out Chris Hedges.

  12. Olly, I think this is very true: “Democrats own the party monsters they’ve created and candidates they nominate just like the Republicans.”

I”m hoping that party members will come to terms with this reality and not elect their monsters any longer.

  13. Good, honorable killing of children and civilians by Obama: “The U.S. says airstrikes on Syria will continue, despite reports of dozens of civilian deaths and the pleas of opposition activists and human rights groups.

    The Guardian reports:

Anas Alabdah, president of the Syrian National Coalition, has called on the U.S. to suspend its airstrikes until it performs a thorough investigation into the attack near the contested northern city of Manbij on Tuesday that Syrian activists say killed at least 73 civilians—and possibly more than 125.

[….] The U.S. has launched at least 12 airstrikes since the destruction in the village of Tokkhar, according to a daily tally released by the military. Asked by the Guardian if the military will pause airstrikes, Army Colonel Christopher Garver, chief spokesman for the U.S. military command in Iraq and Syria, replied: “No. Operations continue against Daesh,” another name for ISIS.

The escalation in violence follows U.S.-backed Syrian fighters giving ISIS militants 48 hours to leave Manbij as part of a “last-ditch effort to protect civilian lives,” the Associated Press reports.

UNICEF estimated this week that “35,000 children are trapped in and around Manbij with nowhere safe to go. In the past six weeks, and as violence has intensified, over 2,300 people were reportedly killed in the area, among them dozens of children.”

As to Bernie, As Darren has pointed out, he already understood his voters were being disenfranchised. Instead of fighting to have their votes count, he capitulated completely. He is a fraud and has been so since the beginning of this sordid process.

  14. Democrats own the party monsters they’ve created and candidates they nominate just like the Republicans. The Priebus’ and Schultz’s of the world are the hideous hucksters of a two-party system busily selling low-grade fertilizer in the hopes their progressive ‘weed’ is elected. Either Clinton or Trump will be elected, courts will be further packed with activist justices and the American people will continue to point fingers at everyone but themselves for allowing our constitutional republic to die before their very eyes.

It is sadly ironic that in an age where information is immediately available, we are far less enlightened as a culture than our 18th century forebears. You can thank a progressive for that.

  15. Used to start my day off with the NY Times, but became increasingly disillusioned as they consisently undermined Bernie. When HRC drew a “crowd” of 50 people at a playground it was wonderful, meanwhile thousands turned out for Bernie whereever he went which they ignored or IF they covered it would always say “but” or Bernie only appeals to millenials, or Bernie can’t win, etc.

Now I start my day with The Guardian – they have owned the corporatists – remember when they were forced to smash the Wikileaks harddrives so their articles are similar – pro HRC anti Trump

But unlike the NYTimes which shuts down their comments section The Guardian allows them to remain open. And wow, the commenters are super bright and issues-oriented. They understand the implications of the TTP/TTIP and corporate control.

One regular commenter “Sappho53” is a Hilbot her response to today’s article on Wikileaks and the DNC emails is typical:

“No, he actively undermined his own campaign by running against the DNC rather than against the Republican Party. Sanders was always running as an independent while using the DNC as his vehicle.”

“Carlisle Williams'” response: “Yes, using the DNC as a vehicle. You can almost say like a bus, openly bringing new members into a dying Dino party. From Millennials to Independents, to first time voters, to defranchised Republicans/Democrats. An amazing bus ride indeed, until someone, purposely, crashed into his bus.”

    Nuff said.

  16. I don’t think Bernie’s too upset by these emails.
He’ll probably just say he “sick of hearing about the damn (DNC) emails”, and magnanimously dismiss it as an issue.
There’s a precedent here for Bernie.
