Clinton Admits That It Is “Fair” To Question Her Truthfulness But Then Denies That The FBI Found That Any Of Her Emails Were Classified

Hillary_Clinton_Testimony_to_House_Select_Committee_on_BenghaziHillary Clinton admitted this Sunday that it is “fair” for voters to have questions about her truthfulness. However, she then proceeded to make the very type of statement that has undermined her credibility with voters.  Despite the express statement of the FBI that her emails contained clearly classified information, including some with classified markings, Clinton insisted that there was no such finding and seemed to deflect blame for her conduct to subordinates.  The Washington Post gave Clinton “Four Pinnochios” for her interview on truthfulness and the email scandal.  Clearly, Clinton is right that there is “work to do” on the truthfulness thing.

The FBI was scathing in its view of Clinton’s decision to use an unsecure personal server for her communications as Secretary of State — a decision that clearly came from her and not her subordinates who raised objections.  Despite her decision to not to use the expensive, secured system at the State Department, Clinton insisted in her Fox interview that “I take classification seriously.”  She then added that

“I relied on and had every reason to relied on the judgment of the professionals with whom I worked. So in retrospect, maybe some people are saying, ‘Well, among those 300 people they made the wrong call.’ At the time there was no reason in my view to doubt the professionalism and the determination by people who work every single day on behalf of our country.”

That would seem to blame her staff for her use of the personal server.  However, it was the statement on the FBI findings that has caught the attention of many people.  FBI Director Comey called Clinton and her staff “extremely careless” in using a personal email account and server.

When asked about the finding that she sent classified emails, she objected to that take on the FBI findings: “That’s not what I heard Director Comey say. Comey said that my answers were truthful and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people.”  She repeated that the emails found to be classified were “retroactively” classified, which is not true.

However, Comey said that 110 of her emails contained information that was classified at the time she sent or received them. He also said that a smaller number emails had markings showing them to be classified.  She added that “Director Comey said my answers were truthful and consistent with what I have told the American people.” However, Comey called her careless in her use of the personal server and the sending of these emails.  He also directly contradicted her on the classification of the emails.

What is astonishing is that, while recognizing “fair” questions about her truthfulness, Clinton proceeded to repeat the very statements that were discredited by the FBI Director and the available record.

In giving her “Four Pinnochios” for her interview, the Post noted that

“While Comey did say there was no evidence she lied to the FBI, that is not the same as saying she told the truth to the American public — which was the point of Wallace’s question. Comey has repeatedly not taken a stand on her public statements. . . .

And although Comey did say many emails were retroactively classified, he also said that there were some emails that were already classified that should not have been sent on an unclassified, private server. That’s the uncomfortable truth that Clinton has trouble admitting.”

Some 57 percent of voters find Clinton to be untruthful according to polls.

  1. It’s quite amazing how she is able to get away with this. It’s hard to believe Comey wouldn’t come forward and correct the record. Tomorrow or the next she will be on stage belly bumping with one of her zombies.

  2. It’s only a lie to HRC if she acknowledges there is some actual truth, she says the opposite, and the media reports her lie for more than 24 hrs. Of these only her uncanny ability to almost always lie exists.

Our present-day media has read the Press Clause right out of the First Amendment. In the 1960’s-1970’s we always knew folks in the media voted, but in most cases I was never sure how they pulled down the voting lever. Right now our media is almost exclusively propaganda from more or less paid party organs, 90% Democrstic. Other than eliminating the need for Journalism schools & departments little good comes from the media’s present disposition. It is almost uniformly irresponsible.

Kudos to Ms. Fromm, babe reporter, w/o an “e”!

  3. Additionally, I believe firmly she is like so many other pathological liars. She actually believes her lies are sometimes the truth.

  4. Hillary Clinton proffered:

““That’s not what I heard Director Comey say. Comey said that my answers were truthful and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people.”
    ~+~
She is being truthful. She truly has been consistently telling lies to the people.

  5. @squeek

well we can always hope! =) In the meantime, we will join together from our respective POVs and ensure that HRC does not get anywhere near the WH. You know I am a bernieorbuster and now supporting Jill Stein YET I do not fear the Donald. One great thing in his favor is he will make sure that HRC winds up behind bars.

Oh, she is probably just a nice little old lady from California. But, if she hangs around us, we’ll have her drinking, smoking, cussing, and seeing wild men on the sly!

re: “No other politician comes close to Hillary.” You got that right. that’s why the common folk are going for Jill Stein or Donald Trump. We are done done double done.

Damn, I suck at technology obviously. Where do you suppose this semi-literate “Bunny” emerged from?

  9. @bunny

I think I got the right video this time with my brothers Will and Mike talking Truth to Power

  10. @bunny

whoops, as I am prone to do I cut and pasted the wrong clip. so here is the one about her lies

  11. @bunnie

You must be the latest Correct the Record bot to appear on this blog. HRC is a liar and has put National Security in jeapordy. The woman is a liar –and BTW where are those missing 30K emails?

Sqeek and I often disagree but we do use facts to back up our assertions. Unlike Hilbots are constantly trying to deflect with the simplistic mantra of HRC is good, Trump is bad

I see you are a black woman — at least according to the photo. Well, wake up and listen to your younger black brothers who are far more intelligent:

  12. “She added that “Director Comey said my answers were truthful and consistent with what I have told the American people.”However, Comey said that 110 of her emails contained information that was classified at the time she sent or received them. ”

She clearly stated people should question her honesty. They she gave an example why.

How honest is that!!! Is there any other politician who presents such compelling evidence and asks voters to decide?

No other politician comes close to Hillary.

:Last I heard, Squeaky got out of stir. You will note that we spell out first and last names differently. Plus I always put “Girl Reporter” after my name for people who are bad spellers. As far as Hillary, she didn’t become a lying crook over night. No, she has been working on it for years. IIRC, she got fired off the Watergate investigations for lying and being deceptive.

    Plus, there is this!

  14. Ms Fromm, Ms Autumn, I find it extremely revealing that you would use the synonym of a woman charged attempting to assassinate the President of the United States. It is not how long the general public’s memory is, its the ability of the press and a person’s detractors to continue to pile on. So Hillary Clinton it isn’t just this story It is the story last week last month last year, its the stories and investigations of the past 25-30 years. Anyone under that much scrutiny will fall and because of the pressure it doesn’t have to be much of a fall. This will finally justify all that you have been told to believe. No one can win the war of the press when your scabs are picked at daily. Certainly not Squeaky Fromme, now a 67 year old woman still behind bars.

  15. Mr. Trump has many times discussed his view that Obama’s Executive Orders were against the Constitution. Apparently the next President can tear them up and whatever rules or regulations apply are no longer law. I think Congress should be involved to make sure these orders are actually dismantled. Some of these orders moved cabinet budget $$$ from one to the other to accomplish their goal. Without House Committee reviews of all orders who would know where to go to stop it. During the recess some House Members should prepare a complete package for the new President to eliminate these unlawful actions. The Presidebt broke the law many times with these Orders. Whomever becomes President should want these illegal actions eliminated. If the Order is something you want continued, communicate with the House and Senate and explain it to the Anerican people so a motion be made and proceed through the process of passing a law.

  16. I agree with Secretary Clinton, with regard to citizens being able to question Her truthfulness. The problem comes when in the great democracy, The lambasting of a person or say arrest of a person comes on the front page all caps But the exoneration or nuances say; Comey big press conference with his incendiary language regarding Clinton’s emails is front page above the fold and carried by every news outlet, then the Congressional hearing is held and Comey admits none of the emails were classified at time of transmittal, that Clinton server had not been hacked but FBI server had. Very little follow up on his hearing but He;Comey had done serious damage without an indictment.

  17. Will there be any analysis of Mr. Trump with the exception of the analysis done on the Constitution? Shouldn’t Mr. Trump’s views be of concern to Professor Turley? If Mr. Trump is elected and goes beyond the confines of the Constitution, is sued by Speaker Ryan (as he has threatened) can’t Trump simply say No–as Erdogan is doing in Turkey right now that he has noted.

  18. No surprise here. HRC is thoroughly corrupt and so arrogant she thinks people will continue to overlook her lies. Can we please have an outside agency monitor the general election?? She will steal it otherwise.

  19. Because people have a short memory, and the main stream press isn’t going to subject her to the same scrutiny that they subject Trump to. The people who vote for Democrats no matter what don’t care.
