Jesus Is My Co-Pilot: Louisiana Man Claims God Told Him To Speed

636093781521032358-ani-dylan-christopher-thompsonDylan Christopher Thompson, 20, insists that he was merely listening to divine direction when he drove 100 miles an hour during a 10-mile chase. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies were less than won over by the “Jesus is my co-pilot” defense.

Thompson said that God told him to drive fast that day and the other drivers were also prompting him to drive fast. Yet, as the police chased down his 1999 Ford pickup truck, he damaged fences and gates. Thompson then lost control and ran off the road. He did not wait around for additional divine direction: he and his passenger took off into the woods. They eventually came out.

Thompson is now charged with speeding-maximum limit over 100 mph, aggravated flight from an officer, simple criminal damage to property and simple kidnapping.

He is not the first to raise this type of defense, as we previously discussed.

  1. 1. Render unto Caeser that which is Caeser’s

So God doesn’t have the authority to give someone an exemption from Caeser’s laws regarding Caeser’s roadways.

    2. Even if he did, if you’re claiming a 3rd party gave you a legal exemption, that 3rd party needs to testify in court. – If S/He does you’ll have your ticket waived

  2. I was a parachuter and once when I jumped out of a plane and opened the chute God told me to speed up. There was no way to speed up other than to get out of the chute vest. I was afraid to do that. When I landed I broke my ankle. It was God’s way.

  3. I think we are going to see an ever-increasing number of cases like this, thanks largely to our Supreme Court. If God let me do something, who can object? In the Muslim world, “God Willing” is a regular and accepted part of speech. Maybe it will become that way here.

He’s about the age to have a schizophreniform breakdown.

  5. Did his passenger not get into the car willingly? Is that why there are simple kidnapping charges?

  6. The Bible’s original intent of top “Camel-Speed” adjusted for technology would probably equate to 5 MPH not 100 MPH..

  7. Thou shalt not use God to get out of speeding tickets.

Lucky he didn’t hurt anyone with his selfish behavior.
