DONALD TRUMP WINS THE PRESIDENCY IN HISTORIC VICTORY

donald_trump_august_19_2015_croppedIt appears that that “basket of deplorables” was a bit larger than Hillary Clinton expected. I was up to 4 am at Fox participating in the coverage of the election from New York. This was my fourth such presidential election as part a media team and it was fascinating to watch unfold at the campaign headquarters at Fox. History will judge the decisions of Democrats leaders in this election.  As I have previously written, many in the Democratic National Committee and establishment (including allies in the media) did everything they could to engineer the election of Hillary Clinton. While they had an extremely popular candidate in Bernie Sanders as well as Vice President Joe Biden, they insisted on advancing Clinton despite her being deeply disliked and the ultimate symbol of the establishment that the public was rallying against. As the close race indicated, the selection of a Sanders or Biden might have produced a sweep of both the White House and the Senate for the Democrats. We will never know of course but what is clear is that Clinton was the least likely candidate to prevail in this environment. Democratic leaders lost possible control of both the Senate and the White House by forcing voters to vote for someone with record negatives. Voters were clear that they did not want Clinton, but the Democrats assumed that the “lesser of two evils” approach would again prevail. They were wrong. Many people voted for third party candidates and many people on the fence refused to pick the candidate most associated with the establishment and the status quo. I expect that history will judge the work of figures like Debbie Wasserman-Shultz and Donna Brazile harshly in the roles that they played and more generally in the failure of Democratic leaders to heed the clear demand from voters for a change in leadership.  Hillary Clinton was a talented and historic nominee. However, she was also the very symbol of the establishment and heavily laden with the type of associations that the public was clearly reacting against.

The wins in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania shows precisely how reckless and cynical the DNC strategy proved to be. Clinton won only 18 states and the District of Columbia, though it did earn her 242 electoral votes. Now for the first time in decades, the Democrats have handed a Republican president both houses of Congress. They solved gridlock but not in the way that they had hoped.

I was astonished to see Clinton decline to speak to her supporters who had wait so loyally at their campaign headquarters. While she did concede over the telephone to Trump, I thought it was bad form not to come down to the headquarters and address the nation and her supporters. They worked incredibly hard and the loss was a terrible blow for them. They deserved better in my view and I felt truly sorry for both their disappointment and effective abandonment at that moment. Looking at the results coming into the headquarters, it was clear that no further “counting” would change the result as Clinton’s telephone call affirmed a short while later. It is the final obligation of a candidate in a presidential campaign to be with your supporters and show the nation that the transition of power would proceed, as it always has, in an orderly fashion. It was highly ironic given the well-founded criticism of the statement of Trump that he might not accept the results of the election — a view driven home by Chris Wallace (who was the gold standard for moderators in these election debates).

The greatest loser in this election was the mainstream media. As I previously discussed, I believe that Trump did bring much of the negative coverage on himself. However, I saw many journalists discard any semblance of neutrality in their coverage, as vividly shown in Wikileaks emails of coordination with the Clinton campaign. The priority for the media should be a serious reexamination of its coverage in this election.

In the end, the public wanted change and they got it. The fact is that many of the public has long felt that they no longer controlled their government and they were right. That is what makes this so revolutionary and transformative for American politics. Whatever a Trump Administration may hold, it will be shock to the system and that is precisely what tens of millions of Americans wanted.

    1. Congratulations to the Trump supporters. He will be able to do much of what he wants because his party controls all branches of government. I am following the markets this morning and the stocks that are up huge with the republican sweep are pharmas, defense, and oil drilling stocks. Green energy is taking a huge hit. The popular vote went to Clinton in this deeply divided country but the republicans will have all the power for along time to come.

      2. Bank stocks also look very good today. Trump win appears to be a “grand slam” for Wall Street banks.

      4. Thank you! I was pretty sure we would lose. Now, things will be good for at least four years. Plus, more time for me to buy ammo, guns, and spare parts! I saw something called a Brown Automatic Rifle, and I wonder if I can get it in some other color, like pink???

        1. Think about it Squeak. This weeks phase of the counter revolution was won with ballots not bullets a small two vowel change that has been accomplished by not other system in existence. It’s Veteran’s Day so I’m saluting my former and present comrades in arms who stood forth and voted much as they would have stood forth and manned their post and honored their oath of office by having the ‘will’ but in having the ‘will’ did not not need to make that two vowel change.

        2. We should also thank the people who did the unintended consequences act and helped to get Trump elected. Number ONE SFB Students who everytime the pulled one of the crybaby acts sickened the public and created more Trump support. Number Two activists for illegals – same story same result, number three supporters of ‘how did Comrade Reid put it’ a sex predator etc etc etc so he must have been thinking about Bubba Bill. Same results, the leftist media same same results, the looney toons from Clooneyviille ditto, suipporters of Obama Care and 20 trillion dollar debts same result, the anti military that would be our sons and daughters in uniform same results. Those who asked for protection that the government is supposed to provide and got a nuclear Iran.. same story same results. The list does get rather endless but let’s add in government officials involved in criminal acts including coverups.

          Each and every time they stepped on their ying yang they created more anti Hillary etc. support and such support became large enough we should publicly thank those who voluntarily answered the call. As for Comrade Reid don’t get me started guy has to be on drugs or sufferinig from some mental problem.

      1. What? Gore delayed conceding the winner for over a month! (Frankly, if Gore would have not invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, he would have been an infinitely better President. But I strongly doubt Gore could/would have resisted HRC and other warmongers insisting on the invasions.)

      As a ratio of State GDP, the average number going toward safety net programs for all fifty states = X. CA’s ratio is 5x!!!!!!!! IOW, as a ratio of GDP, CA spends five times the national average toward safety net programs. Gee, I wonder why some non-CA states gave their homeless one way bus tickets to CA w/list of State agencies to collect welfare?

      I can hardly believe people are so dumb to live their, especially self employed like a certain family we know. She gets tax bills for their business and never even knows why the bill appeared and for what she pays. Pure masochism.

  5. Glad to see that you addressed her appalling lack of concession speech to her loyal following, many of whom had been supporting her since 2008 or earlier. But I can’t help but think she never delivered one because she never wrote it one in the first place, never believing she would loose to Trump. She has been accused of such arrogance before.

    If any other Republican had run and won, the message of anger and frustration would not have been so clearly expressed. The liberals lost their blue collar base.

      1. Actually, the decline of the American working class began before Clinton came to office. Blue collar economic power was a function of the union movement. Reagan destroyed the air traffic controllers union and conservatives have taken every opportunity to eliminate union labor ever since. Clinton and other corporatist Democrats were no help, of course.

    And again, the injection of religion into every element of government is now pending. Hopefully reasonable Republicans remind their leaders that power derives from the voters and not some imaginary sky-master. (Haha, right.)

  11. I supported Bernie Sanders in the primary and was greatly disappointed in the Clinton candidacy. Nevertheless, I believed she was far preferable to Trump. The real victor in this race was Breitbart and its vision of America. In my view, that’s hardly reason for joy.

      I have no idea what vision for America Breitbart has but if it’s to change the course we were on then they have my full support. There’s a saying in strategic planning when considering a vision: “If you don’t know what port to sail any course will do”. Well the American people just had their mutiny and they put Donald Trump at the helm. Time will tell what course he will put us on.

      I, too, am concerned. Yet, Trump is disliked even by people who voted for him (I did not vote for him, BTW) and by a good share of Congress. He is impeachable.

People are rejoicing that our country just elected Trump–a man who is a racist, bigot, misogynist…who has sexually assaulted women…who thinks/says climate change was manufactured by the Chinese…who says that women who have abortions should be punished…who imports Chinese steel for his buildings and manufactures his goods overseas…who doesn’t pay his debts to small businesses…who used his foundation to bribe political officials and pay off fines. I could add much more to the list.

      3. edm, your list of evils are mostly false, manufactured by the mainstream media to defeat Trump. You should try going to original sources and checking them out for yourself. For example, the allegation that climate change was manufactured by the Chinese was a tongue-in-cheek joke about how the Chinese benefit from the propaganda because they are the worst offenders in destroying the climate.

    5. Demoncrats should have stuck with Bernie. We kept saying HRC was inelectable. And the people have spoken Now, can we finally lock her up?

      1. Both Trump and Bernie were perceived outsiders to the bi-partisan elite (or as Nick calls it “the duopoly”) thus they were opposite sides to the same populist coin.

    6. Mike, Breitbart’s polling sources were dead-on accurate using the LA Times and IBD along with two others. I think folks were rebelling against being spoon fed from the main stream press (Yes the NYR and WP) who assumed they were stupid. Ha, jokes on them. I don’t think it wise to test the common sense of a jury- whether it number 12, 6, 7 or 300+ million.

      231,556,622 eligible voters

      46.9% didn’t vote
      25.6% voted Clinton
      25.5% voted Trump

      I was also thinking about all of the celebrities who pledged to leave the U.S. if Trump won.
      Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, and Lena Dunham were among them.
      I think there should be public funding to subsidize their moving expenses, and speed up their departure date.
      It’s not like losing Lena Dunham, Cher, Miley Cyrus, and Whoopi Goldberg would be a major “talent drain” for the U.S. entertainment industry.

I went to bed feeling I would wake to another Clinton in the White House. I would carry on with life and deal with the fate of our country, as well as possible, because America had spoken and I respect that. I am thrilled with the results. You people that supported Hillary, I feel your pain. I’ve felt it for the last two election cycles. We can still be friends. ❤️

      1. slohrss29 – a British press article estimated that Trump got 5 billion in free advertising from the MSM. However, he only spent $5 a vote, half what Hillary spent.
