National Student Union Bans Clapping and Whooping As “Triggering” and Non-Inclusive

Jazz hands are now the inclusive form of support.  Notably, there has been a movement to have people snap rather than clap around the country, but snapping would also seem non-inclusive for deaf people.  Thus, in the span of a year or so, “snappers” went from the cutting edge of inclusive angst to sound-producing reactionaries.  As they say, revolution like Saturn devours its own.

The National Union of Students have taken this further to crackdown on those clapping as marginalizing others.  Estelle Hart, an NUS elections committee member declared: “No whooping, it does have a serious impact on some delegates ability to access conference.”

Other members gave warnings that people were heard to “whoop” and that such conduct would not be permitted in order to protect those triggered or marginalized by vocalization of support.

One student actually proposed a ban on all future clapping and whooping from all conferences in the interests of the “safety and wellbeing” of disabled students.

While the fist pumps and country heels may be triggering, here is a tutorial for those who need to be reeducated on the use of the jazz hands:

  1. Am I the only one to see similarities to ‘codes of conduct’ of Victorian morality? This is class based social restructuring. Populists, and uncooth people
clap, hoot and hollar. Seven days, ago, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance:An Inquiry into Values author/philosopher, Robert M. Pirsig died. Pirsig’s, stated ‘facism is anti-intellectual struggle to return social patterns to the dominant position (Inhis second only book, ‘Lila: An Inquiry into Morals’
The nation is pretty politically divided with the two sides tussling-for position, and unafraid to seek forceful advantage. The left’s Berekley antifree speech argument is a pinnicle of anti-intellectual because they obviously censor undominant speakers: the left’s antifascist militant violence.

  2. It looks like the stats are about the same for legally blind and disabling hearing loss (~2% of the US population). People with hearing loss can see others clapping, but blind can’t see jazz hands or gestures. Seems in this case, jazz hands exclude more people than clapping.

But let’s not bring logic into this….

    1. Wonderer – I have been macrotriggered. You actually made sense. Government officials will be at your door any moment to arrest you. Run while you have the chance. Both the Mexican and Canadian borders are porous right now, so take your pick.

  3. I suggest celebratory gunfire. It’s culturally very hip and you can feel the bullets as they come back down.

    1. Jill – I think this is a brilliant idea. Each student could be armed as they come into the Union with an Uzi (for lots of celebratory gunfire) and an extra clip, which they would then return when they left the event. All their events are held to 200-400 y/o buildings so the ceilings probably need to be redone anyway.

  4. Where is the end to all of this? And can we get there already? Jazz hands are a microaggression against people without hands, or arms, or blind, or become violently sick with anything to do with Jazz Hands. And on and on.

These people must me some pretty smart cookies.

I did not know there is a Union for students. Why? What other consumer group in the country has their own union? And why are these students so flush with extra time to organize protests and participate in union activities?

    1. Perhaps because student loans, full rides, or papa and mama are paying for college. They aren’t busy working to pay for it themselves so they have more free time???

      1. Must be. Is that the reason these “children” are covered under their parents insurance until age 26? Drop it to 22 and require student loans to no longer be deferred if they have completed 4 years and are not taking a full load.

  5. Good job Rick Allren, making any further (or even prior) comment redundant and unnecessary.

  6. If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands! *clap, clap*

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands! *clap, clap*

If you’re happy and you know it then your face will surely show it.

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands! *clap, clap*

So, I guess my preschooler is going to trigger people with this children’s song…

    1. E I ….E I….O

      EveryTHING is

      EVERYthing is

      Everything Is Offensive

  7. Oh these loons might as well get on with it, They should just go ahead with their appropriate hand signals of
    Heil hitler.

  8. And gesturing would, of course, be exclusionary of blind people.

(Is use of the descriptor ‘blind’ a ‘trigger’? Should I say ‘other sighted’ to be less offensive? Can I actually be unoffensive? What is the meaning of the color mauve to an ‘other sighted’ person? Why does my head hurt so much?)

    Inclusivity is hard.

    And really idiotic.

Is there such a thing as inclusive diversity?

    How about diverse inclusivity?

People who take this nonsense seriously, to any degree at all, are way too unbusy and badly need re-education. In an unpleasant ‘camp’. Would that be wrong?

  9. The name for the topic here should be: Much Ado About Retards.

  10. BS. Eric Clapper. Clap me hoff. Lonnie Ringer. Jazzhead Stevens. Jerk Mehoff. Retards.

  11. Doesn’t jazz hands belong to Bob Fosse? I think he has an international copyright.

  12. Insanity. What consequences? Will they be using physical punishment or psychological torture? I guess threats aren’t triggers! Insanity!

  13. Well, pardon me for saying this, but with this fascination with the “clap”, wouldn’t j-zz* hands be more appropriate than jazz hands???

*No, I am not going to spell it out for you! Just substitute some vowels until you find one that works/

    1. We all love it when you talk dirty but I see trouble looming ahead. The risk of disenchanted folks popping off with expletives like “Oh go JAZZ yourself!” or maybe the birth of a whole new generation of
🐦 bird flippers, expressing their opposition digitally. The real dilemma may remain in the identity, branding and naming of the new core curriculum and instruction since JAZZERCISE is already taken.

This is so, so flawed. Think about this. Here we have to get all pumped to get all jazzy or is it zazzie, just to accommodate deaf people right. Of course they are 👂 hearing impaired….they’re deaf. How about my accommodation? I have
no idea what they are saying with all that pointing and hand waving stuff. How do I know if the are yelling or insulting me. I want a “sign 🆓 zone” for my safety and cumfort.

Oh, oh….huge problem. Blind people! The union forgot about them. How do they know if someone, even right next to them is jazzing or not. At least with clapping they can hear it.

This is the jist of the matter which calls for an immediate need for a solution in 👐 hand before we all get covered in it.

  14. How long before “jazz hands” is labeled cultural appropriation?

  15. Funny, in the 50’s the hippies in the clubs would snap their fingers, some clubs used little table knockers. Maybe this crew of “babies” should use castanets.
