Weinstein made a rather obvious objection an email to a plan to exclude people from campus based on the race:
“There is a huge difference between a group or coalition deciding to voluntarily absent themselves from a shared space in order to highlight their vital and under appreciated roles … and a group or coalition encouraging another group to go away . . . I would encourage others to put phenotype aside and reject this new formulation … On a college campus, one’s right to speak—or to be—must never be based on skin color.”
That position led to Weinstein being surrounded outside of his office where he tried to have a dialogue and even instructed the students about the “difference between debate and dialectic.” He noted that “Debate means you are trying to win, dialectic means you are using disagreement to discover what is true. I am not interested in debate. I am only interested in dialectic, which does mean I listen to you, and you listen to me.”
That did not go over well with a student objecting to his saying “racist sh-t.” Another said “We don’t care what terms you want to speak on. This is not about you. We are not speaking on terms—on terms of white privilege. This is not a discussion. You have lost that one.”
Anger grew when Weinstein denied that black students have been targeted by faculty. He insisted that “I do not believe that anybody on our faculty, with intent, specially targets students of color.”
Students proceeded to protest with chants “Hey hey! Ho ho! Bret Weinstein has got to go!”
Just as a reminder, this is all because Weinstein voiced his view that excluding whites from campus was wrong.
The college issued a statement praising the “intense and useful conversation with a group of students.” I am less positive about the scene below or the underlying dispute. Weinstein is correct that the proposed exclusion of students and faculty based on their race is deeply troubling and wrong. The response from the students was insulting, uncivil, and abusive. I would have hoped for a stronger statement in support of this faculty member in his right to express his views and a categorical rejection of the demand for the termination of Weinstein.
What do you think?
“The protest began Tuesday morning when an angry mob of SJW’s confronted Professor Bret Weinstein after he had sent an email to faculty and staff explaining his reasoning for opposing the demonstration.
Now, Weinstein’s reportedly been told to avoid campus because his safety is at risk.
“Police told me protesters stopped cars yesterday, demanding information about occupants,” Mr. Weinstein told The Washington Times. “They believe I was being sought. It appears that the campus has been under the effective control of protesters since 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police are on lockdown, hamstrung by the college administration. Students, staff and faculty are not safe.”
What strikes me about this is how these students are the mirror image of the police state. Stopping cars and demanding information about occupants is just like going through an immigration checkpoint in TX, 110 miles from the Mexican border. They are a little piece of the police state. They are obedient authoritarians, willing to commit police state tactics on others. These young Nazi party members should get some shiny boots to go with their actions! Removal of groups based on a (demonized) identity? Done! Shut down of free speech and free thought? Done! Illegal search? Done! What if they catch the guy in the car? What then? Why not apply to ICE or the NSA right now! They are golden recruits!!!!

What strikes me about this is how these students are the mirror image of the police state. S
Bar that ‘the police state’ is a bit of rhetorical gamesmanship on your part and these rude and insufferable students are all too real.
I heard that the bodyslamming Senate candidate won. Is that true?
I suspect in some circles we are at the dawning of a new practice of institutional racism.
True. And it’s so sad. No civilization lasts forever. Are we witnessing the erosion of ours?
A college professor objected to a racist attempt to exclude whites from a day of instruction for which they paid, and then was subjected to racist abuse himself. Racist harassment of white students or faculty leaves the university open to lawsuits. If blacks were told by whites to leave this wouldn’t be a question.
Liberal fascism sows hatred and divisiveness. These bullies were clearly not interested in discussion or finding common ground. Disagree with them and be spuriously labeled racist…because this tactic works.
And the university’s response encouraged further racist attacks against student and faculty.
From the Evergreen University Student Code of Conduct:
(20) Harassment which is defined as conduct against a person on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sex, gender identity or expression, disability, age, military status, or sexual orientation that is sufficiently severe, pervasive, or persistent to create an objectively hostile environment that interferes with or diminishes the ability of an individual to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by the college, or an employee to engage in work duties.
Either the code of conduct is enforced or it is meaningless. All of it. It appeared the professor’s complaint was anti-discriminatory and his conduct in that video was exemplary. If the administrators can not or will not enforce the code of conduct then the professor should sue the school for facilitating a hostile work environment.
I agree. He should sue the school. But he will likely not if he retains employment.
The college issued a statement praising the “intense and useful conversation with a group of students.
The state legislature should issue a statement with the force of law which says, “Evergreen State College will close on 30 June 2018”.
Three forth (SC, Gov, House) of the elected branches are run by demos. What are the odds. In fact, they are going into second special session because dems want to raise taxes (look out CA and NY, here we come) again.
Forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown.
If this particular professor is not implicated in turning Evergreen into a collecting pool of tedious haut bourgeois poseurs, I’m sympathetic.
It’s a reasonable wager that the black students in question are dissatisfied with life because they’re doing poorly in school. They’re doing poorly in school because the status games faculty and administrators play with each other requires they relax admissions standards for black applicants. Blacks are misplaced at all strata of higher education and one can reasonably infer that the majority admitted to 4 year institutions as we speak are community college material or not college material at all.
This is horribly chilling. I wonder if the Stasi were this organized?
Don’t they realize, their future employers can read their Facebook page?
Ever”green” is racist to Martians.

LOL!!
Thought you’d get a kick out Marvin making ng an appearance. 🙂
mespo, I drive through Montana twice a year and chat w/ folks. They are libertarian as much as they are conservative. They hate DC and big govt. And, the speed limit is 80!
Off topic but fun. In Montana, body slamming a reporter seems to be what it takes to get elected. Dems were shocked when the Repub parlayed a misdemeanor assault charge into a victory yesterday in a special election. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/05/25/greg-gianforte-montana-special-election-win/
Wow. Montanas really really really dislike the Liberal media and seriously do not want a Democrat in office under any circumstance. Since this happened the night before there was no time to put in a non Democrat alternative.
Gianforte was wrong to put his hands on anyone.
Montana is a beautiful state and an outdoorsman’s paradise.
Montana has a Democrat governor and senator. Not the brightest of bulbs post around these parts..
The Montana legislature is controlled by the Republicans, with a 3/5th majority, no less. Republicans also hold 4 of the 6 elected positions in the state executive and all five seats on the Public Service Commission. And now, of course, 2/3 of the Congressional delegation.
Pity your self-understanding as a bright bulb is an illusion.
One of my relatives is from Montana, and I have travelled there. I was referring to this election and the conservative turn out. How else would you explain his easy win than that they dislike the media and do not want a Dem?
Seventy percent has already voted before body slamming thug did his thing.
Journalists merit that treatment.
Right. So journalists aren’t “HumanBeings”unlike like obese people who you feel to fancy defending from mean and hateful invective contemptuous slander?
Convenient. How Catholic of you.
Frank, will you just spout anything (73%) in support of your vacuous positions? Here’s are the facts from your Pravda, CNN, whose nose isn’t quite as long as yours:
“Of approximately 700,000 Montana registered voters overall, 37% cast their vote early, Oestreicher said. This is before in person voting began Thursday.”
Quite the sound strategy for recruiting new, non brown, faculty members huh?
My problem with it is if the students who protested didn’t understand that the backlash and their subsequent “dialect” was part of the lesson to be learned then they should consider renaming it Evergreen Daycare.
That stick figure logo is all I need to deduce Evergreen is ever-liberal.
Lack of reasoning power…
Hey David it’s fun being in your head so much. I just wish there was more to see in here.
No…that can’t be their real logo can it?
Are any of the traditionally black universities as active as these liberal trash bins?
There is only one black research university (Howard, in DC). There are dozens of black colleges. Most of them are having trouble attracting competent students.
They tend to be more prevalent south of the mason dixon line where rampant segregation prevented blacks from attending other schools until 50 or so years ago but Spellman, Morehouse, Hampton, Fisk, NC A&T, Tuskegee, Jackson State, Lincoln, Morgan State, Dillard, Florida A&M, Xavier, Claflin, Elizabeth City, umd Eastern Shore, Tennessee State etc get competent students. Unfortunately their cost of tuition tend to be high, aid can be low, and the admissions staff (and the admissions staff’s computer systems) may be lacking. The professors however are excellent, and whites can often apply for minority scholarships.
As the professor said, excluding anyone from campus is wrong, especially when it’s based on ethnic background. They should have invited students of different races to have a day away from campus if that’s how they wanted to do it, so a day without African Americans, a day without Latinos, a day without Whites, a day without Asians. You don’t say leave or else!
Some of them get competent students, some do not. Maryland would do well to close two of it’s black colleges because they just do not have the clientele to maintain four such colleges. CUNY and the University of Illinois system have two institutions each with a minority clientele. Neither has enough in the way of competent students to populate more than one. Virginia’s institutions are in better shape, but they would benefit from a special addition to endowment and a down-sizing program. Ditto UDC. The black colleges in the Ohio and Missouri systems are hopeless and need to be closed.
Don’t you go dissin on Coppin State you angry White MO-FO!
Who told you THAT lie – or is it just another desperate attempt to get attention?
Where the frig is Evergreen State? What is it’s history? Was it once all negro? Back in days of old? Was it once all white? Was it ever green? Will it soon be everblack?
If it is a state college then the professor can sue any “state actor” who abused him for being white. Race based discrimination. File it in federal court.
He needs to play the long game versus appeasement. The large male student was trying to defend him. His opposition wanted a shouting match, emotional appeasement, and not a path to logic.
It was at Evergreen. Nothing more needs to be said.
This is the same state college that played at a graduation ceremony a recorded address from convicted cop killer Leonard Peltier.
I read a study published in a local newspaper citing the fact that Evergreen has the lowest success rate of any 4 year public college\university in the state as measured by income of students measured against other colleges and compared with that of high school graduates, which was nearly at par.
Yes, Evergreen was supposed to be Washington state’s answer to Reed College in Portland, Oregon. My youngest daughter’s husband went there in its salad days and he has done alright. But Evergreen has not lived up to its promise.
Not that millennials anywhere are doing well. Many perforce move back home after graduation.
So Racists calling someone a racist for objecting to their racist demand…umm.insanity!
Abusive students should be given back a prorated amount of their tuition and asked to leave at once.
I totally agree with that.
I was born in Seattle and have lived, this time around, in Washington state since 1970
One of my for students was a faculty member at Evergreen State College.
I regret that the incident happened here in Washington state and I am deeply disappointed in the conduct of the students. It appears, from this report, that those students did not proper grasp Civics 101.
I live close to Seattle. Are you at all surprised this is occurring here? Or specifically at Evergreen?
Seattle WA where BLM took over Bernie Sander’s campaign stop?
Seattle WA where students at Seattle University had a SJW meltdown this year?
Seattle WA where students at UW melted down over Milo?
What is SJM?
Social Justice Warriors. W not M
If you want to use Ted Nugent’s vernacular then use the M.
Social Justice Mongrels.
Seattle was quite different in the 1940s.
UW has 44,000 students. If Milo was prevented from speaking by a two digit or three digit collection of students, that says something about the Administration, not about students-in-general.
They may be neglecting ‘civics 101’, but that’s not the driver here. The smart money says they’re processing their dissatisfaction with life by recriminating contra anyone who gets in their gunsights, as this fellow did by taking exception to something they’d advocated. They need to be treated badly when they do this. If you do, some will get the message. If you don’t, none will.
