THE SHOOTER: James T. Hodgkinson

 

James Hodgkinson alleged shooter in Alexandria incident.This is James T. Hodgkinson, 66, who has been identified as the shooter in today’s tragedy.  He is from Belleville, Illinois and appears a political activist. He is the owner of JTH Inspections.  He has a criminal record, including battery.

Judging from a Facebook page for a user named James Hodgkinson from Belleville, Illinois, he appears a critic of both President Donald Trump and Republicans.  He is shown here calling for higher taxes and he appears to be wearing a t-shirt wih the word “Republican” on it.

He appears a supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders and volunteered on this campaign.  Sanders has denounced him and his actions.  

Hodgkinson wrote such messages as “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”  Just two days ago, he wrote  “I Want to Say Mr. President, for being an ass hole you are Truly the Biggest Ass Hole We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office,” He is also a critic of Hillary Clinton who he referred to as “Republican Lite.” Indeed, he wrote “You’ve been warned DNC. I will NEVER vote Hillary. A nomination for Hillary equals a win for Trump. #NOTWithHer.”

The hatred for Republicans is obvious. In October 2015 he wrote “Thieving Republican Congress Strikes Again!!!”

  3. Why not direct our thoughts to the real cause? Since the left had their ass kicked in the election its been none stop lies, innuendo and hatred by them and their media. Kathy Griffin, the mock killing of Trump in the park. Maybe this will wake the Republicans up and start going on offense. The democrats are no longer the party of our parents and grandparents, it’s a party taken over by progressive radicals and a dangerous media.

Someone posted “he finally did it”, I could not get back to that extremely odd comment, there were literally thousands of comments hitting the thread over several minutes. I wonder if he was being followed, even harassed by the Secret Service? Several FB commenters wrote that they thought it was a hoax/false flag. Considering the repeal of the Smith-Mundt Act and the contentious gun debate, anything is possible.

    1. Someone needs to take a close look at what he’d been doing for two months — the two months that he’d been living in the area. Like Omar Mateen, was he on the radar of any law enforcement agencies? And yes, as you note, was he on a Secret Service list? (It would be interesting, too, to get more input from the person who posted the “he finally did it” comment.)

This man has a history of violence. Using ideology as an excuse for trying to kill people is common as mud in this world. It is also disgusting. But that is what this is–a violent man committing violence, using his political beliefs as “cover”. He has every right to express his hatred of Trump and no right at all to harm others.

    As to Bernie’s statement,he can take that and shove it. He’s never met violence against people who live overseas that he didn’t love. He regularly votes for wars and he adored Trump’s bombing of civilians in Syria. I’m barfing about his hypocrisy.

To you any scary gun is an “assault weapon.” In reality it’s a weapon designed for combat that fires its magazine automatically if the trigger is depressed once. The typical mass shooter’s weapon is a semi-automatic pistol which fires only once when the trigger is depressed. In this case, the shooter had an undisclosed long gun that was almost assuredly a semi-automatic rifle which is not an assault weapon and hasn’t been since Vietnam. And the answer to gun violence is trained citizens with concealed weapons who can repulse attacks as the brave Capitol Police did here. You want to be a sitting duck, please be my guest, just don’t ask me to sit on your pond with you when the lead flies.

          1. These shooters, stabbers, people plowing cars into pedestrians – they do not stop until faced with an armed person, either citizen or police. France has strict gun laws. It made a very safe space for terrorists to shoot at ducks in a barrel.

            Amazingly, making drugs, murder, rape, and larceny illegal did not make those acts go away. By definition, law abiding citizens follow gun laws, and criminals do not. Without a fire arm, humanity is reduced to might makes right until and unless the police arrive. Which means that women have little means to defend themselves. Imagine, a crazy ex stalker is breaking down a terrified woman’s door. She would have to call the police, explain the situation, give her address, and wait for the police to drive there, assess the situation, and gain entry. Think she’ll make it?

            My relatives find, on average, 25 rattlers on their ranch annually. Want to go root around in the bushes with a blunt shovel, either torturing the poor reptile with repeated strikes, or leaving your tender toes vulnerable to strike? I only find a few rattlers per year, but they get quite long here, and they are fast. They move towards you, not away like a garter snake. I wouldn’t want to get that close to a grown one with a shovel.

            Dictators always take great care to disarm their civilians.

            I would say that every time a car is used to kill someone, the Liberals do not clamor to ban cars. And that would have been true until recently. Los Angeles is implementing Vision Zero, which means they want to achieve zero traffic deaths by 2025. How will they accomplish this? By purposefully creating massive gridlock, making everyone go so slowly that the goal is that speeds will become non fatal. However, this of course shunts angry drivers into residential streets…with all the kids playing. And the general consensus of outraged Angelenos is, why should we law abiding citizens be punished for reckless drivers? Sound familiar?

            I am curious, why is it that whenever there is an act of violence, the furor is focused on the particular tool used rather than the criminal? Like, it would be OK if he’d only used a car. I don’t want to see gun violence decrease; I want to see all violence decrease. I understand the concern about firearms. A shooter can hurt someone out of reach. That’s both the fear, and the advantage, of a firearm. That is why someone weaker can protect themselves from someone stronger. However, in countries where gun ownership is essentially banned, such as UK, violence actually increased. Thieves target homeowners when they are home, because they are guaranteed to be unable to defend themselves, and one can assume they’ve turned the alarm off until they go to bed. True, gun violence decreased as guns decreased, but violence increased. And of course this does not even touch on the main source of gun violence in the US, which are gangs. It is already illegal for a felon to own a gun, and yet felon gang members shockingly do not follow the law.

            An AR-15 is not fully automatic and not an assault weapon. It is a semi automatic rifle with scary, black plastic, pistol grip stock and fore grip.

            Your position makes about as much sense as claiming that one of those econobox cars with a tall spoiler bolted to the trunk and a resonator instead of a muffler is a real race car.

            Sweet dreams, just don’t let them turn into delusions about cars or guns.

          3. JWBurdick – I think you are confusing a semi-automatic with a fully automatic weapon of war. A fully automatic weapon automatically advances the next round and fires as long as the trigger is depressed. It “sprays” bullets until you either run out of ammo or release the trigger. For a semiautomatic firearm, you chamber the first round and the first pull of the trigger is a long pull. After that, every time the gun fires, the next round is chambered, so all you have to do is pull the trigger. You do not need to chamber a round, but you do need to pull the trigger, even if it is a short pull.

            Unless you are skeet shooting or using a pump action shotgun, the vast majority of firearms are semi automatic. “Assault rifle” is a manufactured term that basically refers to a weapon that looks militaryish, with a pistol grip and usually plastic parts. The grip make the gun more comfortable to hold. Some of them can have less recoil. Basically, depending on your standpoint, they either look “cool” or they look “scary”, but they fire the same lead as any other firearm of the same caliber. I could have a cute little bedazzled chrome plated gun with Hello Kitty stickers all over it, and it would still be deadly.

            Again, the way the gun looks doesn’t matter. Fully automatic firearms made after 1986 are banned in the US, and owning one made before then is quite difficult. In Europe, the fully automatic weapons flooding the region is on the black market, military grade.

    2. I remember when my Liberal friends and family earnestly told me they believed that Trump was going to send out the death vans. People even sincerely told me that they thought that the US was going to be no longer safe for Jews because Donald Trump got elected.

      And yet…it was the Leftist extremists who have looted, rioted, burned, and become violent. It is the far Left that has become increasingly anti-Semitic. It is the Left who have become anti free speech, pro blasphemy laws, and increasingly violent in their rhetoric on the mainstream media, social media, and in general conversation. I hope they sort this out and the extremists take a good, hard look in the mirror soon.
