The incendiary and uncivil politics that has gripped the nation has been a long focus on this blog. I am honestly worried about how the insulting and personal attacks from both sides will change political dialogue in this country for a generation. These include some past comments made by President Trump as well as his political opponents. As the father of four children, I emphasize the need to maintain civility, but that lesson is undermined every time the kids watch the news. The latest such incident involves Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) who made troubling statements about White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, including calling the highly decorated veteran a “disgrace to the uniform.” The reason was that Kelly somehow did not prevent President Donald Trump from rescinding DACA. This age of rage appears to have given people license to vent their most insulting and unfair criticisms at one another. We can no longer have a simple disagreement over issues like immigration. People have to be labeled “terrorists” or white supremacists if they think DACA should be decided by Congress or oppose amnesty programs. Calling this man (who lost a son in the military service) a “disgrace to his uniform” is a sad moment for our country.
Gutierrez said, “General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear. He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists…”
Kelly had one of the longest and most distinguished military careers in the country. After serving as a platoon commander of a rifle company, he served abroad a variety of ships on foreign duties around the world. In Iraq in 2003, he became the first Marine colonel to be promoted in a combat area since 1951 (when Chesty Puller was promoted). In 2003, Kelly pushed his Task Force from Baghdad into Samarra and Tikrit.
On that uniform that Rep. Gutierrez says he has disgraced are the following medals from Wikipedia:
Kelly also made the ultimate sacrifice of any parent for his country. In 2010, his 29-year-old son, First Lieutenant Robert Kelly, was killed in action after stepping on he stepped on a landmine while leading a patrol in Sangin, Afghanistan. It was his third combat tour. I doubt that this criticism has a big impact on Gen. Kelly but it bothers me a great deal.
Gen. Kelly gave this speech just four days after his son gave his life for his country:
Rep. Luis Gutierrez is doing a great job of alienating people like me. With his attitude, I will probably go out of my way to support anything he believes in.
By attacking Kelly in such a vile and base manner, Gutierrez fortified the Republican side, the side that holds America back. Gutierrez also fortified Trump, the greatest disaster America has seen in a century. Gutierrez is either a fifth columnist or simply too stupid to hold any office. Hopefully he will be gone soon. In speaking without thinking, without restraint, without considering the consequences, Gutierrez has momentarily surpassed Trump and all the other disasters in Washington when it comes to destroying the American attempt at democracy. The short form is ‘what an a**hole.’
Trump was masterful in tossing the DACA issue to its appropriate place, Congress. If it turns out to be a dog’s breakfast, Trump can blame Congress, Republicans as well as Democrats. Get ready Mitch. If it works out, Trump will claim it as his own. This is a fact. In any event, some will get deported, some justly and some unjustly and some will get on a long, long, path to citizenship. Most will end up American citizens. The potential weight that this carries is to make a statement to stop parents coming across with their kids and repeating the routine. There are a lot of games yet to be played.
This sort of mindless remark by someone who should know better illustrates again the pitiful quality of people that get bought and sold by the oligarchs.
Issac, more so than holding back America, Rep. G. confirms the notion of gerrymandered districts. The political insulation these homogeneous districts provide for these elected officials allows for their limited view comments and subsequent behaviors. The GOP,lead by Tom Delay, perfected this and now the Democrats have decided to take the helm as far as “what the people want”, specifically my people, all 738,000 of them, mantra and play that into this meme that this is now the wishes/sentiment of the overall American public.
Roscoe
The last sentence of my rant is the essence of the problem. The system in this country is woefully dysfunctional. Most other countries have several parties, do not allow private funding/purchasing of representatives, and carefully scrutinize their systems to guard against gerrymandering. Democrats gerrymander but the most egregious examples are performed by Republicans. It is sadly obvious that the US cannot perform democratically. We live in an oligarchy which results in a status quo benefiting the very few, and the acquisition of politicians for reasons other than any qualities other than performing their puppet master’s demands. This Gutierrez idiot is an example. There are plenty to go around our two party system, one more than a dictatorship.
SO, Gutierrez said, “General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear. He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists…”
How would Gutierrez know anything about wearing the uniform since he never served? He should shut up and focus on fixing the many issues the VA faces.
It is cool that old chicken hawk T rump is being micro managed by a general.
Pro-tip, Ken: when you wish to traffic in a snotty ad hom fallacy, you look like a stupid chump if you attack your target for deficiencies that are someone else’s. Other than Bernie Sanders, Trump was among the candidates who ran in 2016 the most disinclined to use military force abroad. (And, unlike Sanders, Trump’s period service record was perfectly in order).
Da snowflake had a bone spur 5 times.
Actually, he received a single I-Y deferment for a minor medical issue. About 200,000 of these were issued every year. They were temporary and you could be recalled in as little as 90 days (though that was seldom the case). A year and a half later, they instituted the draft lottery. Trump had a fairly high lottery number, so was not inducted. You can ask your grand-dad how the system worked back then.
Does anyone remember if Rep. Luis Gutierrez said: Oscar Lopez Rivera is Like George Washington?
To the best of my knowledge, Rep. Luis Gutierrez has never served a day in the uniform of his country. Yet, he feels qualified to make such an abusive, disrespectful, rude, and totally off-base attack on a man who has served with honor and distinction for decades. The only person who is “a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear. He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists…” is Rep. Gutierrez himself.
Mr. Trump is going to act like Mr. Trump always acts… without thought or consideration for any advice given to him by his staff… including General Kelly.
These include some past comments made by President Trump as well as his political opponents.
The person who got the worst of it from Trump was Ted Cruz (and his wife and his father), who is likely pretty inured to it. fter > 6 years of viciousness from Democrats and FredoCons alike.
How far removed from the rule of law and separation of powers have we gone when a major political party and their constituents are outraged that a sitting President would defer legislative action to the Legislative branch of government? Oh, the horror!
President Trump did not blow up DACA. He put this temporary action by the previous President back on a constitutional path for a legislative solution. Time for Congress to put their 2018 campaigns on the line and express the will of their constituents.
Guttierez has a 4 decade history as an SJW dating back to his college student days and entered politics after a stint working for the country’s most incompetent school system and another stint as a social worker. He doesn’t care about adherence to law; it’s all about what he wants.
He doesn’t care about adherence to law; it’s all about what he wants.
He’s not alone. Politicians now risk a career by coming out of the closet and admitting they are constitutionalists. For many on this legal blog the law is subordinate to empathy.
I see very little resembling empathy from the progs who post here.
Oily, these people have no respect for the law. Imagine had the law been enforced from the get go we would not be discussing what to do with these people.
This is one of the reasons Trump will always get it wrong with the Left. Conservatives put rule of law above empathy. This doesn’t mean they don’t have empathy. Be as empathetic as possible though within the rule of law.
Rule of law converts into empathy in the long run.
Rule of law converts into empathy in the long run.
Unfortunately that doesn’t sell well for the political class. They’re in the happiness business, not the tough love business.
Happiness through free stuff: free admission, free phones, free college, free homes. It’s easy to be empathetic (read: virtue signal) with someone else’s money.
” Time for Congress to put their 2018 campaigns on the line and express the will of their constituents.”
Trouble maker.
This is not supposed to be troublesome for these lawmakers. They’ve made this bed and now they get to sleep in it.
The number to inform Mr. Gutierrez that his incivility is repugnant, is: (202) 225-8203!!
The number to inform
Mr. Gutierrez that his incivility is repugnant is: (202) 225-8203.
The Democrats are the most detestable and dangerous to this nation. This disgraceful congressman is the reason the VA is in the shape it’s in, the Dums have more concern for illegals then they have for Americans. Bring more illegals into the country so the Dums can gain more votes. This guy should be removed from office he is a disgrace and an example of all that’s wrong with Democrats.
Insane, is he. Well.
Cruel, too.
The Constitutional separation of powers, I guess, for you, is nonsense. If Congress does not pass immigration legislation to your liking, the King should simply bypass Parliament, and do what you think he should do.
Right?
And then, when a new King is enthroned, one who acknowledges that the prior one overstepped, and wishes to restore the constitutional order, it’s somehow “cruel.”
Right?
Here, Tucker tries to clarify the issue: http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/tucker-carlson-tonight/index.html#/v/5565883249001
How many years (provide a number, which the congressman refuses to do) is it right and proper for a person to evade capture under our laws until they can scream OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE!!!!!!!, and the law no longer applies to them?
Name me that number.
This comment was meant to be a reply to “frankly” when there were still only two comments here.
There were multiple videos of Obama telling the nation why it was unconstitutional for him to do something that he later unconstitutionally did under DACA.
Trump has placed the problem in the hands of Congress where it belongs. It appears some people don’t believe in the Constitution so they call what Trump did as cruel. He undid what should never have been done, but those same people don’t blame Obama for violating the intent of the law.
I note the video of Vincente Fox by frankly who is sucked in by reasonably good looking men.. What did he do as President of Mexico when he was in office? Many Mexican Indians used to not be considered citizens why was that?. I don’t know if that is true today. The Mexican elite including Fox have the money and the resources to make Mexico one of the strongest nations in the world, but instead they kept it to themselves and make videos to convince foolish people that the Mexican problem is an American problem.
Mexico has the same GDP as T rump’s guy Putin.
Putin does not have a gross domestic product, Russia does. Russia’s is 22% higher than Mexico’s in nominal terms and 63% higher when measured according to purchasing power parity. In per capita terms, Russia’s is higher on both measures (in fact, 40% higher on the PPP measure). Also, Latin American figures regarding this metric are less indicative of general standards of living because of the intense skew in distribution of income that is characteristic of Latin America.
Thank you for the numbers DSS. I didn’t think ken was right, but I didn’t want to do the work. I guess what you are telling us is that ken lied again and cannot be trusted.
It is true.
If it’s true you can prove it, But the truth is you just say whatever comes to your head.
What do the voices in your head tell you? Forget it I don’t want to know.
I don’t leave it to voices like you prefer fishwings. I look at data, but I am not sure you even know what the word means.
The data is at the IMF website
I used to use the IMF database. There are much easier ways to compare GDP’s than from the IMF, but go ahead and give us the IMF numbers. You can’t. Who would have known? We all do.
14. Russia 15. Mexico. 1,132.740 vs. 1,082.430. In billions
I don’t know what numbers you looked up or what date, etc. I’ll let DSS figure out where your numbers came from.
The IMF 2016
#12 Russia 1,280,731
#15 Mexico 1,046,002
These numbers are consistent with what DSS said.
You may or maynot be correct regarding the GDP, but both countries are run by people, similar to many leftists, that don’t live up to a Constitution that provides for individual freedom. If we were to act in the fashion ou desire our GDP would be at their level as well.
.
He isn’t correct.
That aside, Mexico was from 1920 to 1983 a party-machine state with a considerable quantum of pluralism. It was in transition from 1983 to 2000 and has had a competitive political order since. It has many deficits in its quality of life, but an absence of ‘individual freedom’ in the civic and political realms is not really one. Mexico’s big problems are street crime and a politico-economic order built around influence-peddling. It’s the same story in most Latin American countries.
Obama when President was being sued by multiple States on DACA
That legal matter fell on President Trump to solve
As any good legal mind will tell you
The Obama Executive Action of DACA could not and cannot be won in a court of law
Because DACA is
Unconstitutional
And
Unlawful
…so why would President Trump waste the American tax payers money defending a case DACA the DOJ could never win
hocus, of course you are absolutely right. The Dems know what Obama did was unconstitutional and would be found unconstitutional just like DAPA was. Many don’t care about the Constitution. Many don’t care that much about the nation. Just look at the lack of information seen by the leftists on this blog site. This lack of information is prevalent in leftist media.
…and as I read just today
The left is preparing their law suit against President Trump on DACA
Perhaps the left might want to watch their step
For this action could backfire
After all…
DACA is unlawful
And therefore the Court just may render a decision to immediately deport all “illegals”
The oddest ,though understandable, thing about Guiterrez’s remark is that it seems as if we are at the point where we have accepted that the president of the United States requires a babysitter or “minder” because he is so incompetent. The blame for Trump’s actions belongs with him, not Kelly or any of these other people who have been tasked with controlling him.
Isn’t this the way of things in the modern cradle-to-grave state? Just more of the same. “Someone else do something–the state must act.” I guess he didn’t ask for a “babysitter” when the Nobel Peace Award winner dropped over 29,000 bombs on brown desert people. What about all those children’s dreams?
They’re geographically challenged (can’t enter the states illegally so they can vote). Ergo, they don’t matter.
we have accepted that the president of the United States requires a babysitter or “minder”
The promiscuous use of the first-person plural is pretentious nonsense (but just what one expects of progtrash).
Totally. Fortunately Trump would never refer to himself in the third person.
Even if he did refer to himself in 3d person, what would that have to do with sapel2013’s cheesy little rhetorical maneuver?
Yup
I wonder what John Basilone would say to Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) ?
I’d rather see what he’d do to this disgrace.
Obama…had said in 2012
That DACA was TEMPORARY
https://twitter.com/VicenteFoxQue/status/905234310067871744
It’s disgusting to have this Old Fox, who scammed the Mexican People, while HE had $1,200 Bath Towels and Luxuries in HIS home, but they had so Little. He ONLY wants to have America Keep these Illegals, as they send Money BACK to Mexico, which should END, “ALONG WITH ANY AID WE SEND TO MEXICO…
HONEST WORKING AMERICANS ARE SICK OF “FOOTING THE BILL FOR MEXICO, AND THEIR LAND OF CARTELS, THAT ONLY OBAMA (W/”FAST AND FURIOUS”-GUN RUNNING TO THEM) CAUSED AMERICA EVEN MORE PROBLEMS. TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN PEOPLE VICENTE FOX, AND STHU AS WE OWE YOU AND YOURS’ NADA!
Well said!

Hey BOT, the cornerstone of this nation are the LEGAL immigrants and their children and grandchildren who didn’t come here for welfare, free housing and burden our healthcare system. You Weenie!
Don’t forget free college. ‘Dreamers’ get free tuition and in-state tuition in a lot of states. And we have our legal citizens struggling to pay student loans b/c they have to pay for their community college courses while ‘dreamers’ aka illegal minors, get it for free. How is that fair? It’s not.
False.
this is to “so hannity lied to me?!” bobbie
CNN:
“It depends. DACA opened the doorway for undocumented immigrants to enroll in college, pay in-state tuition and in some cases gain access to financial aid packages. While DACA students are not eligible for federal financial aid, some states let them pay in-state tuition, and a few offer them state-sponsored aid.”
“TBob: Dreamers’ get free tuition and in-state tuition in a lot of states.”
TBob True
Hannity True
CNN True
Mark M. lied.
Just because it’s not what you wanna read doesn’t make it disappear. “Free” means “free.” Nowhere in your collection of claims (without citation to any authority) is the word “free” supported. In fact, you admit that DACA registrants aren’t eligible for FAFSA, while bizarrely wrapping up your “contribution” with another unsupported claim of bobbie “true.”
I know that logic and reason have lost their persuasive effects on Pravda Faux News zombies, but I’ll continue to demonstrate how they work in the land of facts.
this is to “oh, I hadn’t thought of that” allan
Roughly 65 DACA beneficiaries are attending Harvard, according to the school’s newspaper.
1) You think these students are all mental geniuses, or at the very least, more deserving of an American citizen?
2) Who is paying their bills? Golden Doors?
https://longroom.com/discussion/665981/harvard-president-slams-cruel-donald-trump-for-ending-daca
AG Maura Healey has joined 14 other AGs in suing Trump over his rescinding Obama’s EO, which clearly shows how good Healey is at wasting taxpayer $.
Though, Mark M. you think you have made a brilliant legal argument for your case, you haven’t. Stay with filing the pleadings of real lawyers, not pretend ones. In some states which is what TBob was talking about ” in a lot of states”, not all states and many provide instate tuition which can be very low and some even get scholarships which is what TBob said ” and in-state tuition ” I provided CNN not because you can trust them, but I gave the opinion from CNN on the left and Hannity on the right.
You really ought to spend a bit more time going back to school so that you can sound a bit brighter and move up in the world. Your comments lack any understanding of things that are complex.
Merely admit bobbie’s claim of “free” is not supported, and your lesson in rhetoric will be completed.
This is to “trying to wiggle off the hook” allan
It seems Mark, that all that filing hasn’t made you a lawyer yet and your lawyer bosses are abandoning you. Things look dim for you, but you are used to it. Go back to school to go from dim to bright.
Gutierrez IS A DISGRACE TO THE CONGRESS, AS HE IS “LA RAZA PUSHING LOUDMOUTH” WHO DARES TO INSULT GEN. KELLY, WHO FOUGHT FOR AMERICA….UNLIKE GUTE!
I agree! And I just called his office and (civilly) told them that! His number is: (202) 225-8203.
Debbie, thanks for the telephone number. I left a message as well. I should have added to the message that he make a public apology.
I’m calling too.
I spoke to a very nice young woman who politely said, “okay, thank you for your call, I will pass the message along.” Keep calling. Don’t let Gutierrez get away with his disgraceful comments.
I have informed my spouse and my friends to do the same. I hope every thinking American on this list does the same even if they like DACA. We are talking about how Guttierez treated a highly decorated serviceman who spent his life protecting everyone of us and lost a son who did the same.
Trump made absolutely the correct decision on DACA. This is a job for Congress, not a rogue President with a pen.
The rep’s comments are a disgrace.
Also the “age of rage” commenced in January 2009, fueled by a certain orange-moron who pushed birtherism and foreign-manufactured, self-branded garbage. The best steaks in the world, believe me.
The moron in question built a business that has $9.5 bn in revenue and employs 22,000 people. You also cannot seem to tell the difference between Trump (who questioned Obama’s refusal to release quite ordinary documents) with Orly Taitz.
Many billionaires file for bankruptcy multiple times while pursuing 3,000 lawsuits, paying no taxes (that makes me smart), and requiring a reality-tv show to pay the bills. Right. And he did it all by himself: it’s not like he was born into wealth. I’m so impressed.
Tax returns are ordinary documents, for political candidates running for president. Where are Trump’s, in Kenya?
Many billionaires file for bankruptcy multiple times while pursuing 3,000 lawsuits,
Get back to me when you’ve learned what ‘equity capital’ is.
Trump was determined to make this cruel decision. Got to commend Kelly for reigning in the lunatic and allowing a 6 month waiting period. Kelly has a very difficult job. Wonder how long he will be able to take the insanity of the POTUS.
It is not a “cruel” decision. It was entirely necessary. Barack Obama made the “cruel” decision, when he used an Executive Order to make an end-around Congress. One of the essentials functions of these laws is to allow people to plan their lives. But Congress needs to make that law for it to have the stability needed.
To fix this problem requires that the Executive Order be un-done because Congress will not act until it is. This, in the end, will force Congress to make a law that either supports DACA or doesn’t.
This is on Obama. Future presidents should learn that Executive Orders do not provide the security that comes with Congressional action. One would think Obama, the “Constitutional Law Professor,” would have known better.
This “cruel” decision…..we see you got the talking points memo.
My religious beliefs are not talking points.
Drink a shot every time someone uses the word “cruel” to describe Trump’s decision. The memo went out and the chosen words, like “cruel” are all over the airwaves.
And da T rump bots got the same memo they get everyday: BLAME OBAMA!!!!!!
Who else do you blame for yet another one of Obama’s abuses of power intended to advance the interests of the Democratic Party and it’s clientele?
Obama IS to blame for this particular mess. He’s the one who made up laws like he was boy king. Congress makes laws, not the president. Trump properly sent the issue back to Congress to resolve. Who should we blame in your opinion?
What are your talking points then? What should Trump have done? Should he have usurped even more authority from Congress and continued ruling by decree like Obama did? DACA is not legal and was never legal. It is unconstitutional. How can this be upheld in the courts? It can’t. It will be thrown out like DAPA.
Trump is saying “hey Congress, YOU make the laws, here ya go.” It is a legislative issue that belongs in Congress. Trump gave them a six month window to fix this and if they don’t, he said he will revisit the issue. He’s not throwing out 800,000 ‘kids.’ He’s properly placing this back in Congress and saying deal with it where it belongs. I fail to see how that is ‘cruel.’
What Obama did — making up laws and putting all the dreamers in illegal limbo like this is what I would call ‘cruel’ — in addition to being an illegal, unconstitutional abuse of executive power which Obama told us over and over again that it was. This is 100% on Congress to figure out and do their job.
You’re asking ‘Frankly’ to tell you something other than her feelz, which is to say to refer to something other than the only thing she knows much about.
Yes, I’m asking frankly to share what Trump should have done instead of merely calling it ‘cruel.’ How should he have handled DACA?
Why, the orange-tinged buffoon should have done just what he did. Show his klansmen base and their fellow travelers that he’s got their back. After all, Dreamers don’t really look like “real ‘Mericans” do they?
this is to “that’s not my pillowcase with eyeholes” bobbie
Aren’t you clever. A Klansman reference for moi? Wow. There are a few things I could say, but I just don’t have the need to respond to ‘stupid.’
This is to Marky Moron “I spend my weekends dressed in black beating up white people. And I smell bad.”
Why, no, that sheet doesn’t make you look fat at all….
this is to “ad hominem means what?” bobbie
BTW, Kelly did not “allow” Trump to have a six month waiting period. He’s the COS. Trump is the president. Where do you get your news?
https://twitter.com/JamesMartinSJ/status/905440635112615936
How sad.
If this unbiblical corruption of theology is what catholicism has fallen into, I advise you to switch become a Bible-believing protestant. Run away, as fast as you can, from these heretics!
I don’t believe in the bible. 🙂 It is a book.
I don’t believe in the Sun. It is an orb.
Dumb people tend to be amiable; hence why Dubya was “a regular guy to have a beer with”.
I do indeed be dumb. Weird thing, I know how dumb I be. Thanks for noticing.
Still, “frankly” Be even stupider than I be, if possible. This utter moron gins up moral indignation about his/her being impugned regarding his/her “religious” beliefs, and then cites atheistic/communistic Catholic potentates to defend his/her position.
Do you find that funny? I do. This ridiculous person does not believe the Bible. So what “religious beliefs” does this moron feel such dudgeon when impugned?
I dumb. He dumber.
“cites atheistic/communistic Catholic potentates to defend his/her position.” patrick You say Father Martin is a communist and an atheist. Isn’t that even a bridge too far for a MAGA boy?
“Fr.” Martin is a notorious figure in the Society of Jesus. The charism of the Jesuits in our time would be single-malt scotch and sodomy.
frankie, not really. I’d like the Catholic church to get rid of those scumbags.
And, incidentally, don’t YOU want America to be made great again? How about the Catholic church?
Oh. Right. You don’t believe the Bible.
Got it.
Frankly elsewhere you demonstrated how uninformed you were about the economy and after being provided some employment numbers and GDP you indicated wages weren’t doing anything. When I saw this article I figured maybe you wouldn’t want to sound so uninformed.
“Since President Trump took office in January, job growth has continued to be robust, and the unemployment rate has continued to fall. Republicans have become far more confident about the economy since the election.
Democrats, meanwhile, have grown far less confident about the economy. But the job market has improved at least as much for those likelier to be Hillary Clinton supporters as for Trump supporters. In fact, the drop in unemployment and the rise in wages have been stronger for them by some measures.”
Look at the rest of the article and the graphs.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/05/upshot/under-trump-job-market-has-improved-more-for-clinton-supporters.html?em_pos=small&emc=edit_up_20170906&nl=upshot&nl_art=0&nlid=2585408&ref=headline&te=1&_r=0
To Allan ” Economic growth was modest to moderate across the U.S. in the past two months as labor markets stayed tight without much wage pressure and the auto industry emerged as one of the few possible sources of weakness, the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book survey showed” The economy is showing the same modest growth as it did with Obama. Last month’s employment numbers did not meet expectations.
“Last month’s employment numbers did not meet expectations.”
You are hopeless. That the decline in the u6 for Trumps first 6 months was 4 times faster than the same months in 2016 under Obama flew right past nose and evaded all human thought.
You listen to a video by Vincente Fox and suck up all over him, but fail to recognize that theMexican people are relatively poor because of him and the others like him in Mexico.
There is no use dealing with you. Facts have no impact.
allan In August 156,000 jobs were created. That was down from over 200,000 the prior month. Your graph appears to be from earlier in the year. I do follow the markets closely in order to invest wisely and to protect my current investments.
Frankly, my graphs produce every U 6 avaliable including the most recent. I randomly took the first 6 months. I could have taken 7 months or whatever. Employment is not completely linear, but a linear graph can be accurately created with the numbers from .gov which are the numbers I use.
In 6 months Trump had 4 times the fall in the U 6 as did Obama in the same time frame one year ago. As employment gets closer to what is considered full employment which it is doing decreases in U6 get harder to come by. After 6 months of 4 times the rate of decrease than under the Obama administration and suddenly you think things aren’t so good because one month was less than expected. Less than expected for whom, the Obama administration or the Trump administration? Add that last month or two and Trump is still showing a decrease in the U6 of multiples of Obama.
No, frankly, you do not know what you are talking about.
The fact that you feel you do well in your investements can be due to many factors and investing is not the same as understanding the economy.
You think you are doing well, whether or not you are we really don’t know. When the market takes a dive like it always does you will better see how good your planning was. Buying stocks is pretty easy if one follows a few rules, but knowing when one is properly balanced or when to start selling stocks is a lot more difficult. That is where the brokers can devastate the individual. Brokers always show you good results of their funds (a bad buy generally) because they get rid of the failures before the brochures are printed up. I keep myself fairly balanced with real estate, stocks and liquid investments. Even this last crash didn’t do much damage and since then All the markets I am in have done fantastically well. Overall I almost continuously beat the Dow rate of growth by a margin that would normally scare me if I weren’t sure that I had executed a reasonable balance.
The real George W. Bush has two Ivy League degrees, trained as a fighter pilot, and ran a business which had $108 million in revenue at the time he sold his interest in it.
Father Martin makes a big assumption that all Bishops, priests and sisters side with DACA. It wouldn’t be the first time scripture was twisted to fit a bias. And, even the Pope only speaks with authority on religious matters.
As a Jesuit educated, practicing Catholic I believe Jesus and the Church believe in legal immigration, not the Obama ruler, king dictates that even he know were unconstitutional. The Church in other countries has fought against dictators and leaders who used illegal means to achieve their goals. Why is this different? Just because you like this outcome, even though it was created illegally?
In 2008 Obama and the Democrats controlled all the levers of power and they could easily have reformed our immigration system in any way they wanted. They didn’t. Now the whine. You can’t have it both ways.
“Because we stand with Jesus.” Yeah and the church also covered up abuse by pedophiles. Did Jesus tell them to do that too?
Yeah and the church also covered up abuse by pedophiles.
No, the Church did not publish the priest corps personnel files. Are you aware of an employer that does? Prior to about 1983, there were few accusations against priests. Over the period running from about 1983 to 2001, bishops of ordinary size dioceses were usually fielding 2 or 3 accusations a year that weren’t demonstrable nonsense. They were generally received a considerable distance in time after the supposed incident (roughly 15 years was about normal). Sometimes the priest in question confessed, other times not, and there often was little or no corroboration. Most priests accused had a single accusation lodged against them. In 2002 and 2003, you had a huge mass of accusations coming out of the woodwork. Evaluating most of them was an impossible task because most concerned supposed incidents which occurred decades earlier and, again, were uncorroborated.
While we’re at it, paedophilic molestations were atypical. These were incidents of pederasty, by and large.
I wonder if TBob has the same hatred for all female teachers as he does for the church.
Of course not. Why would you say that? Also, I don’t hate the church. I was raised Catholic. I just don’t look to the church for any kind of moral authority, not that I ever did.
I know this is OT, but now I’m curious about the distinction you are making between ‘pederasty’ and ‘paedophilic molestations’ with regard to allegations of abuse by priests. Are you saying there is evidence that ‘by and large’ the reported cases of abuse by priests were actually consensual sex with adolescent boys? Also curious as to where you get your facts.
Pederasty refers to some sort of contact (not generally ‘sex’) with post-pubescent males. Paedophila refers to contact with pre-pubescent children.
An extensive data set was complied by John Jay College 15 years ago. Some dioceses also released data.
Thanks, but that still sounds like abuse or molestation. And yes, I maintain my view that the Catholic church actually covered up sex abuse by clergy no matter what names you want to call it.
Absolutely.
Absolutely and this Pope is just like all the others before him, lip service. Give up the despicable Cardinal Law, getting fat in Rome.
Again, local ordinaries, not the Holy See, are responsible for discipline of clergy. The Holy See can promulgate Canon Law and hear some appeals. It does not have the manpower to actually police local parishes. Francis has a long menu of deficiencies and has behaved abusively to fragments of the Church he despises (e.g. the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate). However, even were he conscientious, he would not be in a position to do much. The entire workforce at the Vatican is in the low four digits. There are 3,000 diocesan ordinaries.
I maintain my view that the Catholic church actually covered up sex abuse by clergy no matter what names you want to call it.
Did you expect local bishops to issue press releases? The modal case was a 29 year old man appearing in the chancery and telling the bishop Fr. So-and-So had plied him with alcohol and fondled his genitals when he was 14. The bishops did various things at that point. Some priests were sent to a treatment center in New Mexico and then put back in parish work (the Archdiocese of Boston did this a great deal, with sometimes disastrous results), some were assigned to administrative duties or chaplaincies where they would not be around youth. Some were just put on ice. You could turn the cases over to law enforcement. There was nothing preventing the accusers from doing that. The trouble often was that the statute of limitations had expired and, in any case, there wasn’t much probative evidence. Prosecutors had trouble getting convictions of even the most notorious creatures without banking on inverted-jury-nullification.
Hebephilia – Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebephilia
Hebephilia is the strong, persistent sexual interest by adults in pubescent (early adolescent) children (especially those showing Tanner stages 2-3 of development), typically ages 11–14.
Wait..is frankly/SWM saying Luis is into teenage boys?
No … a question was asked about the correct terminology. I heard a speaker who was abused at that age refer to it as hebephilia, Never had heard the term before. Have a good evening, Headed out for dinner. No more MAGA today.:)
