For many, the recent video of Hillary Clinton thanking “activist bitches supporting bitches” was a cringe-worthy moment as Clinton continues to struggle to be accepted as a leader (or even a plausible member of) the “resistance.” What is curious is that there seems to be a conscious decision in the Democratic ranks to become more profane. DNC Chair Tom Perez has clearly used profanity as a way of connecting with the younger generation. As people on this blog are aware, I am admittedly a bit old-fashioned about crude language used publicly by public figures and politicians. I find it truly off-putting but I recognize that the rising generation does not share that inclination. Indeed, there is a new book calling for the use of more profanity.
Clinton’s use of the crude language was clearly orchestrated. Someone off screen reminds her to thank “bitches supporting bitches.” It seemed really important for her to use the crude language and her supporters clearly thought that this painfully awkward videotape would make her more popular. I cannot imagine why. Even if it is cool and edgy for Clinton to use bad words, it is decidedly less so when she recited trash talk or profanity being fed to her. Putting aside the audible coaching, the videotape seems a bit pathetic and painfully awkward.
While widely viewed negatively as the personification of the establishment and the alleged rigging of the Democratic primary, Clinton has gone of a national speaking tour to rehabilitate her image despite polls that show her becoming more unpopular. We have previously noted that polls have shown Trump would still beat Clinton in a head-to-head election (and here). While Trump is also facing declining polls, he is at the same level or even higher than Clinton. Clinton posted the lowest polling numbers yet with only 36% popularity and an unfavorable rating of 61%. Polls are showing Trump at 38 percent. While a new poll shows that half of people feel Trump should resign, it is clear that they want Clinton even less — the very same position held by many in the campaign.
Clinton’s comments were posted on Twitter by Huffington Post commentator Alex Mohajer.

Stay away from profanity, unless you want to distract people from your message with that profanity, and unless you want to risk being taken less seriously for resorting to profanity.
“What difference does it make”!
An occasional expletive is one thing. Alan Simpson was known for cussing now and then remember? But using profanity on a routine basis as a public official is a very bad idea. Trumpism has made vulgarity of all kinds seem more normal but that is no excuse for gratuitous profanity as a means of seeming like you’re a cool person. It just is another example of how empty and shallow our political leaders are and how little of true leadership or substance they provide the nation regardless of party.
Crude language is the result of most of the general public being unable to speak and write eloquently and passionately. Most can barely form complete sentences, much less employ the use of words beyond a syllable or two in length.
Curse words were once used for extreme emphasis, in occasional situations, such as anger or awe. But the lazy masses have made it mainstream because they don’t know any other way to express themselves and because they get their learnings from pop culture and bad schools, which are continually salt-petering their brains.
Profanity has become increasingly popular because under the Trump presidency, crude language is considered evidence that the speaker tells it like it is. In reality, of course, the use of vulgarities is more typically evidence that the speaker is inarticulate, semi-literate or both.
Yes, Mike. It is Trump’s fault that CNN used the word “sh*thole” nearly 200 times in one day:
And, for Joe Biden saying “big f*ckin’ deal!”
Yeah, boy her language is salty. So dirty. Such an affront to the privileged, delicate, effete ears of Jonathan Turley. Turley, you weep like an oozing pustule.
We have a conman president who relishes in calling others names. Shall we list some of the egregious insults? I think we should: rapists, crooked, sonsabitches, and don’t forget the dog whistle bigotry of the president of the US: his black guy, the Jerry Lewis impression of Asians, the Mexican taco bowl comment, the unretracted ‘animals’ comment on falsely accused black kids and of course Sh&thole.
Turely is a hypocrite. That much is clear. Stop hiding behind your legal credentials bc people who pay attention know your values: $$$$$$$.
I got a C note in my pocket. Dance for me Turley and it’s all yours.
“I got a C note in my pocket. Dance for me Turley and it’s all yours.”
I think Professor Turley is the wrong man to ask. You might be better served by a gay strip club since you seek a man pulling money out of your pocket while dancing for you. If this blog doesn’t fit your needs then I suggest backpage.com
That has to be the best put down of all time!!! Oh, I am ROTFLMAO!!!
No doubt he has had to leave the basement, go upstairs, and have his Mommy rub some aloe on his butt!
While fixing my breakfast (a hamburger omelet), I decided that Darren deserved a laudatory Irish Poem!
Darren, To Be Different???
An Irish Poem by Squeeky Fromm
There once was a fellow named, Darren-
Who was modest, and not overbearin’!
But, if you transgressed,
It would be “No Contest!”
And it’s egg on your face you’d be wearin!
Darren wins the internet with that WWE quality smack down! Thanks squeeky for referring me. Lol!!!!
Hollywood is nothing more than a collection of crackheads and whores.
Hollywood and the Clintons go together. The more the people of this country see this combination, the less they like them.
Beneath the dignity of the office.
Based on that Hillary video, it’s gotta be … well … this: https://youtu.be/WXd5J77GVQE
I believe probably the main reason Donald Trump ran for president is because he attended a formal gathering where President Obama gave him a scathing public humiliation before a large group of people that was also aired on television. A lot of the negative things people say about President Trump might be true, but this isn’t the kind of a man you should screw with.
– This is only somewhat related to your comment, but I remember watching FBI Director Comey testifying in early May about being ” mildly nauseous” at the thought that his re-opening of the email investigation might have affected the outcome of the election.
At the time, I thought that Comey’s comment would cause Trump to go ape****,
since he’d take it as a remark that the election might have been “tipped” to him by Comey’s action.
As touchy as Trump is about the issue that his election victory was tainted in some way, I thought Comey unintentionally wandered way out onto some thin ice.
I think Comey was gone in about a week.
Yeah, Trump can be “a might touchy”.
I realize many of the younger generation cuss publicly. I attribute it to modern media. Movies use profanity all the time, if you remember movies from days of old they did not, it was simply not acceptable. I hope boorish behavior never becomes acceptable, in language or in deed. Another example that disappointed me was Joe Biden at the signing of the ACA calling it a “BFD”, I always assumed that moment to have been staged, and I thought Joe knew better than to talk that way such that reporters could quote him. Come to think of it, reporters probably used to edit out that kind of talk.
I’ve always heard that Hilary was a very mean and nasty person. I’ve also heard that if you were a member of the secret service and you were assigned the detail of protecting Hilary, you were being punished for screwing up.
Said it many times, Clinton is a self-serving politician. What I have not often said is she is MACHIAVELLIAN in nature. Never have I seen such a antagonistic, irreconcilable & nasty piece of political work. Clinton, truly, is a natural, tenacious & insidious progressive, demagogue! Enough said?
Indy Bob – it is true. A friend of mine who was stationed at Andrews during the Clinton regime said the stewards hated it when HRC was on board AF One. Bill was a charmer – talked and joked with everyone, remembered their names, etc. HRC would snap at them.
The Clintons have plenty of money. Why can’t they just ride off into the sunset. As a matter of fact, the Bush family can do the same thing. These families have an insatiable need for power and money.
Why didn’t the Trumps ride off into the sunset? They’ve stolen billions by litigating against their creditors and by exploiting bankruptcy laws. Sheer narcissism led Donald Trump to run for president, and it was his worst mistake. He will now be held accountable for some of his crimes.
What crimes do you think Trump will now be charged with?
I’m with you. It may be old fashioned, but I’m glad to see there is at least one other person who feels that way. I miss the days when people people were polite enough not to speak that way in public even if they did in private or among close friends who didn’t mind. It seems today’s young people thing it’s a perfectly normal thing to do. Too bad they weren’t taught manners.
Great, deep reporting on the life and work of Paul Manafort, and his national and international allies.
I wanted to take a two hour shower after reading it, but thought it was fascinating and worthwhile.
Yet you have no problem with the Clinton’s financial arrangements to include those with Russian associations. This article is yet just another nothingburger. Unless you can connect dots nobody else – Mueller included – is seeing.
Thanks for the link. At every opportunity, the GOP proves it’s a party, peopled with men and women who could care less about America. When John McCain (referenced in the article) selected Sarah Palin as his V.P, it was clear that his country took a back seat to his ambition. And, his maverick schtick is b.s.
Activist bitches. Grab em by the pussy. It’s all crude, isn’t it? Why should we have to choose?
A long, long time ago I was interested in this girl named Kim. Kim was prolific if you know what I mean and I hadn’t been yet so hence my interest. Kim went to a Charlotte club one night with her friends. This was back when the Charlotte Hornets were the original Charlotte Hornets. Anway, Mugsey Bogues, then a auperstar, was at the club. He reached over and grabs Kim by the pussy.
I’m grateful that you have noted what was said in private vs. what was said in public. I wish others on the Left were as wise as you.
They have blurred distinctions for political purposes and it’s disgusting to watch…….distinctions such as the difference between illegal and legal, public and private, etc.
(music to the tine of The Armour Hotdog song)
itchBay! She’s an itchBay!
Hill er ree is an itchBay!
Fat girls, skinny girls, girls who climb on rocks…
Big jerks, little smirks, even kids with chicken pox…
Say: itchBay! She’s an itchBay!
The dog, kids, like… to bite!
Your party ran the ItchBay for President not mine. Just saying.
