The United States has long rejected the holding of military parades featuring tanks, missiles and other heavy weapons as a symbol of authoritarian regimes like the Soviet Union, North Korea and other countries. We commonly have parades with marching military and military bands in Washington. What we generally have not done is add heavy weaponry — the signature display of so many of the history authoritarian enemies of this country (though, as some have pointed out on this blog, there have been exceptions where tanks or missiles were present in inaugurations). Trump’s desire for military equipment at the presidential inauguration was reportedly rejected by the Pentagon as running counter to the long traditions of the country. Now Trump appears to be close to getting such a parade, modeled on the Bastille Day parade. A military official told The Washington Post is quoted as saying“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France.” (The current results show 77 percent against such parades with around 800 polled. The Army-Navy Times is reported opposition at 89 percent). Opposition is also coming from Republicans who are calling it “cheesy” and “wasteful.” The Navy Seal who killed Osama Bin Laden has called it “third world bulls**t.”
Ironically, as many on this blog know, I am a military history buff and love to review both vintage and modern weaponry. However, I like our tradition in not holding such military parades. Our military has long maintained its apolitical and professional distance in our system. We celebrate and honor our military but do not use heavy weapons as props. We also avoid the high costs associated with such parades. However, people of good faith can disagree and I wanted to ask the blog about the consensus (if any) on this issue below.
Just think, most of the American founders hated the idea of having a standing army. A parade like this is completely antithetical to the ideals of a republic.

I’m a disabled veteran, a supporter of this President and Big Supporter of our great military but I don’t think it’s necessary to parade military hardware for any reason. I would support a parade on Veterans Day for all the services and representative veterans of all past conflicts.
The members of our military should always have the very best and their families should never experience any difficulties while their love ones serve. The left has more concern about illegals then they do for our men and women of the military.

Good questions. If we closed all of the hundreds of military bases abroad, save only those most critically needed, we could save enough money to pay for more of the things that the public wants – in education, healthcare, infrastructure etc.
Then, Trump could have his parade, and JT could view/study military weaponry at museums.

Baltimore has at least a half dozen schools where not one black kid is proficient in either Math or English, yet will get passed up each year until he gets a diploma. Yet, Baltimore’s spending per student is the 4th highest in the nation, at over $15,000 per year.
IMHO, have the parade, and take the money out of the housing voucher program, and education budget.

When you use sock puppets, you can be here, there, and everywhere. I am like 95% sure that Linda/Late4 is Inga based on her patterns of responses and comments when she was here before, under numerous identities. But what really put it over the top for me, is the refusal to answer direct questions. Inga/Annie behaved the same way, as if she were afraid to provide a direct answer lest you trap her in an inconsistency. She “thrusts” but not so deeply that you can riposte.
Why I don’t engage with her, is because there she is not really in the game. It is like she just craves attention, negative or otherwise, so that conversations are not really conversations. It might have been proposed as a show of military might during the threat from North Korea. What would be more effective would be hacking their television networks with replays of the Shock and Awe campaign in Afghanistan. Play it over and over again, drop leaflets…The US has been a bit of a Pollyanna about foreign interference in elections, considering how often we meddle, for reasons of our own. I am personally wishing for a change in government in North Korea. So many are starving, but as long as the military supports Kim Yong Un, the population is disarmed and helpless. I wish he would be overthrown, and the country united under South Korea.
Our military might is balanced and tempered with a representative government and individual rights. Since heavy metal in military parades is associated in the psyche with dictatorships, this would not be a wise move domestically, regardless of how it was taken abroad.

1. Unemployment among African-Americans is the lowest ever recorded
2. Unemployment among Latinos is also down
3. Unemployment in general is down (now, I take unemployment figures with a grain of salt, because some fall off of the rolls of those seeking work, except…)
4. Welfare is also down
So, is caring expressed better by words or actions? Obama’s words indicated a lot of concern. His actions never raised the GDP annually above 3% (historic lows), and they were also anti-business, which led to poor employment. Although unemployment seemed to improve, welfare rolls swelled, and partial employment was more common. The general cost of living, including that of health care, also skyrocketed.
Under Trump, in merely a year, there have been improvements in middle class lives. Estimates show that 90% of the working class are seeing more take home money due to the tax cuts, as well. Jobs are also more available.
Trump was really a hard sell for me. I still voice concern when he makes a misstep. However, I have been pleased at the totality of his year in office, and I sincerely believe that Hillary Clinton is a criminal. Some actions I disagree with, but there is no disputing that the economy has improved significantly.
As for the street people, I live in CA, so I get to see the plight of street people first hand. Liberal and Progressive policies enable people to live in the street, in medieval hygiene and disease, rather than putting them into shelters. Drug abuse and mental illness, often combined, are rampant among the homeless population. One of the large fires was set by a homeless encampment in the brush covered hills, who were permitted to live there due to Progressive policies. They said they cared more about people, but their actions led to a raging wildfire, and to people literally defecating and vomiting all over the street and in ephemeral dry stream beds, leaving dirty needles and used condoms. I have seen these shanties and shopping cart cities first hand. It now smells literally of human waste when city workers leaf blow the streets, and do they equip those hapless workers with hazmat suits? No, they do not, not in the Deep Blue state of CA. The responsible and kind thing to do is to require homeless people to live in shelters or similar roofs over their heads, and not enable them to turn the streets into a drugged out cesspool. No human being should live in such filthy conditions, and helping them do it is certainly no kindness. I have absolutely no idea what to do about the drug addiction. I do not believe that forced rehab works. They just use the moment they are out. And if living on the street is not hitting bottom, I don’t know what is. Addiction is the reason most say they don’t want to live in shelters. They don’t want to be told what to do or harassed for using. I don’t believe that we should let people use public shelters as meth houses, either. So, unfortunately, I don’t have a solution for the drug addiction that causes so much homelessness. I hope someone can solve this problem, however, because CA has shouldered more than her fair share, and now it is paying the price with outbreaks of hepatitis and antibiotic-resistant TB.
Oh, I neglected to add to the issue of street people:
Homeless populations are made up of different groups. The people who have had a figurative piano fall on them, and are just down on their luck, are more straightforward to help. Normal people down on their luck do not defecate on the street, or drop used needles, and would welcome a safe place to live to get back on their feet.
I just saw a homeless man in front of Target, where I went with my young son. He kept violently lunging forward at something only he could see, and muttering to himself. He looked like he was challenging an invisible person to a fight. When we came back out, he was sitting on the ground, muttering to himself. I don’t know if it was mental illness, or a drug high, or a combination. But he belongs to the group of people that I don’t know how to help, other than re-opening up commitment for people who cannot care for themselves.

As an American by choice, the choice of a mature adult with options, not happenstance, I acknowledge the institutions of the government of the US but more, much more than this, I take issue with the shortcomings and am adamant in seeing this country evolve towards the ideals intended by the founding fathers. In other words, I don’t mindlessly revere all things American and at this time take issue with the buffoon that sits in the Oval Office.

A Rasmussen daily Presidential tracking poll shows that 48% of voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapprove.
Back on February 7, 2010 Barack Obama had an approval rating of 44% while 56% of likely voters disapproved of the job Obama was doing.
Which means President Trump has a stronger approval rating today than Barack Obama did back in 2010 on this same day.

This is yet another sideshow brought about by the degenerate-in-chief’s random and disjointed musings. I don’t mind a July 4th military parade, but would prefer for two reasons that it be limited to the part of our military which makes it the greatest in the world, the GI, Marine, Sailor, and Airman. First, our military is, and has been, so spectacular throughout our nation’s history because of the individual American wearing the uniform. From Yorktown, to Cemetery Hill, to Belleau Wood, to Guadalcanal and Normandy, to Khe Sahn, and to Baghdad, the individual American in harm’s way with his finger on the trigger has been the distinguishing factor which elevated our military forces over those of our enemies.’ (During many of those eras, our “hardware” was substantially inferior to the enemy’s). Second, the extraordinary cost to parading modern heavy weapons, especially tracked vehicles, isn’t worth it. From trains to move the M1A1 Abrams heavy tanks; the additional troops which would be required to safeguard the armored vehicles; to the most assuredly chewed-up streets along the parade route; a parade including heavy weapons expend funds and resources which would be better put to use on our current and former servicemen and women. So, a qualified “yes.”
