Definition of “Devil’s Triangle” Changed On Wikipedia To Make Kavanaugh’s Answer

As I discussed in yesterday’s earlier in a column, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D., RI) going through the yearbook entries of Brett Kavanaugh was one of the most bizarre moments of confirmations in our history.  Whitehouse was attempting to undermine Kavanaugh’s account of not being a black out drunk or participating in sexual exploits at parties with his friends.  The hearing devolved into a discussed of the terms “boofing” and the “Devil’s Triangle.”  The terms are widely defined on the internet to mean anal sex and a threesome (with one male and two females).  Kavanaugh insisted that they meant farting and a drinking game.  That led many to question his veracity (I am thankfully ignorant of either term but I have come to realize that my high school and college years were monastic in comparison to most everyone else).  One person using a congressional computer however decided to try to add at least some support for Kavanaugh on the Internet by changing the definition on Wikipedia.  He or she only succeeded in causing a row that highlighted the controversy over Kavanaugh’s answers.

Wikipedia was edited to include a possible definition of a “popular drinking gme enjoyed by friends of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  As reported by CNN and other sites, he source is a congressional IP address.

Frankly, I do not know what to make of this issue (I did not even know what “Quarters” was after Kavanaugh said it was the same thing as the Devil’s Triangle.).  There is no way to prove that Kavanaugh was lying in his colloquial understanding 36 years later.  In the end, there is something deeply unsettling in the scene of a United States senator going through the yearbook entries written by a teenage boy in High School as a material issue for a confirmation to the United States Supreme Court.  I understand that Whitehouse was trying to show not the meaning of these terms but that Kavanaugh was lying.  However, it was a moment that will not be soon forgotten as capturing how far our confirmation hearings have strayed from core issues of competency and qualifications.

I did not know what to make of these hearings. I found both witnesses to be highly compelling. I am glad that there is more time for investigation but I doubt that a week will offer much of an opportunity for meaningful inquiries.  While it may not uncover anything new, it will offer cover to a handle full of uncommitted Senators who want to vote for Kavanaugh to avoid political backlash while maintaining that they did so only after demanding an investigation.

  1. General comment starts at the end today. Boofers is the new name to collectively describe any form of so far to the left you can’t see the center Boofing is for the lkeft either as indicated in the year book – breaking wind or bronx cheering – or breathing. Boofers are one’s who boof. A boofert or boofort is one who supports the left. Easy.

  2. Senator Graham is trying ferociously to replace Sessions as AG after the mid-terms. There’s the real devil’s triangle.

  3. So much like a spoiled child who doesn’t get their way and throws a temper tantrum. The real cause of this mob is that President Trump is taking the country down another path from the EU model of socialism meaning jobs for life, guaranteed income, doing away with freedom of speech, passing stupid laws that would jail reporters for report ing the true events of how immigration has affected various countries, and not going along with the ultra rich, yes, the 1% of the 1% (trillionaire Jeff Bezos, billionaire Tom Steyer, Google, facebook, all well in the mid BILLIONAIRE CLASS etc.).

    1. Bob:

About how I see it. And I really like that it truly pisses them off.

I also think civil wars start because a few people want to shoot a few other people and most of the rest of the population agrees having less of both would be a good thing.

  4. While it may seem trivial I thought the way he responded to Senator Klobachar about his drinking said a lot about his character. Not acceptable

    1. And his apology showed he was a man who had the character to apologize when he knew he did something wrong. This was a man who was having his wife and cihildren subjected to the most disgusting comments. He faced having his life and career ripped away from him by Senators who thought you should be judged by your high school yearbook. That’s the people who lack character.

  5. Professor Turley goes out of his way to not say anything negative about some judge he may have to appear before or see at a party. Judge Kavanaugh’s explanation of Renate Varsity Team was laughable. These confirmation hearings have deteriorated but what I saw was a creepy rich kid who I would try to keep away from my daughter. Maybe not the best way to evaluate a judicial candidate but that’s what I saw. On a legal level I don’t want anybody on the Supreme Court that thinks torture and undeclared wars are constitutional.

    1. Kavanaugh and Renate both confirm that they never slept together.

Hence, Renate Alumni doesn’t mean what you imply that it does.

  6. The only up side may be that in the course of exploring these leads, the FBI may uncover some information unfavorable to the left. It is highly doubtful they will discover anything new/untoward about about Kavanaugh.

  7. Tailgunner Joe McCarthy would be ashamed to pull the stunts which the Senate Democrats and their captive press have done against Brett Kavanaugh. This is nothing but “Borking” with added gusto. Using the FBI as a condom for the rape of Brett Kavanaugh’s civil rights by the Democrats is a new low for that party and for the FBI.

  8. Did I mention how this new WordPress really sucks? Comments interminably delayed or lost in the ether. Inconsistent notices of replies. Delays in submissions. No retention of information causing endless reentry of data. It’s all bad.

  9. Committee staff has reportedly interviewed two men who say that they were actually the two teens who may as assaulted Christine Blasey Ford in 1982 and not Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

  10. It’s a dishonorable spectacle hosted by a dishonorable organization. Why should we expect anything virtuous to come from its members or as an end result?

  11. I guess that human emotions are not part of your definition of being a human. When he told the story about his 10 YO daughter wanting to pray for the accuser, which brought tears to so many, you call sniveling. HIS lying is only your personal opinion, so far, and that of the rest of your antifa aligned group. But we now know that the DI FI lawyers did not tell Dr. Ford that the Committee was willing to meet her in Calif. Not just once was that offer extended, but on 3 occasions. Notice how she attempted to provide cover for them when asked directly during the hearing she testified at? Yes, lying by his DI FI lawyers. AND that is against the Canon of Ethics that Lawyers have to practice by. Sidestepping. Again, just another smear statement, IMO.
You must be paid by soros or that other creep from CA who is promoting a COUP of a duly elected government. I love it. So much like a spoiled child who doesn’t get her way and throws a temper tantrum.

  12. Many words have changed meaning since the 80’s and most for the worse and with sexual connotations ie grind, teabag, hook-up, dump truck, cougar, milf, smash, thongs, pornocchio, bang. There are hundreds more that no one should say or write or text or tweet. The over-sexualization of our culture is disgusting and today’s vocabulary is nothing like the 1980’s.

    1. And just who is trying to make our language more vulgar? The whole homosexual language has become a shield.

  13. While I have no doubt that Dr. Ford suffered a horrific experience, tying it to Brett Kavanaugh seems at best tenuous. Being unable to provide the date, time or place of the incident makes it nearly impossible to either prove or dis-prove what is alleged. I also find it difficult to find that those mentioned by Dr. Ford as being at the incident would risk a criminal charge by lying when saying that they either did not recall the event or more positively said it did not happen. Further, Dr. Ford’s friend claims she never met Brett Kavanaugh. Dr. Ford seemed truly shocked when told that the Committee had offered, through her counsel, to come to California rather than having her travel to DC. This only makes sense if you believe that a private discussion with Dr. Ford would not fit the Democrats objective – the circus that transpired on Thursday. It makes even more sense if what has been reported is true – that Senator Dianne Feinstein recommended the lawyers representing Dr. Ford. Much of this is too cute by a half.

  14. Critical issue facing the Republic: What did “Devil’s Triangle” really mean in the early 80s.

We truly are a frivolous people and that means a short shelf life. See Gibbon, Decline & Fall

    1. “The story of its ruin is simple and obvious; and, instead of inquiring why the Roman empire was destroyed, we should rather be surprised that it had subsisted so long. The victorious legions, who, in distant wars, acquired the vices of strangers and mercenaries, first oppressed the freedom of the republic, and afterwards violated the majesty of the purple. The emperors, anxious for their personal safety and the public peace, were reduced to the base expedient of corrupting the discipline which rendered them alike formidable to their sovereign and to the enemy; the vigour of the military government was relaxed, and finally dissolved, by the partial institutions of Constantine; and the Roman world was overwhelmed by a deluge of Barbarians.”

~Edward Gibbon. The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, “General Observations on the Fall of the Roman Empire in the West”, Chapter 38

      1. The story of its ruin is simple and obvious

Instead of having the humility to learn from the lessons of history, progressives demonstrate time and again their arrogance believing man’s nature has evolved along with everything else. That nature has never been able to withstand the allure of power and money. So the obvious solution for progressives is to abandon the checks against that nature and just secure the power and money. This confirmation process has exposed that dark nature and what is almost worse, the suicidal support they receive from their ignorant constituents.

    2. As a high schooler in the early 60’s the “Devil’s Triangle” was a mysterious place near Bermuda where ships and planes often went missing.

  15. The FBI report will be a statement of facts, with holes and contradictions in each person’s recollection.

Then, the committee will have to meet, call to testify the persons who were interviewed to give clarification . . . And on and on and on.

  16. The Devil’s Triangle is three people performing oral sex on each other, head to tail. I’ve never heard it used to refer to a drinking game. But, hey, maybe it’s a choir boy drinking game. Kavanaugh was obviously coached by Trump.

    1. Wow Issac, you seem to know a great deal about this, where in Gods name is your mind? I realize your not an American and have expressed a great deal of hatred for our President and the American way of life but you really have to take a step back a bit. If Kavanaugh gets the job he won’t have any impact on your country.

  17. For his performance alone: sniveling, lying, sidestepping, the most sleazy lawyer routines, exhibiting blatant political bias, accusing the Democrats of conspiracy without foundation, etc, etc, etc. Kavanaugh should not be appointed. He is not SCOTUS material. But then again, Trump is no way near Presidential material. At least Trump can laugh along with those laughing at him when he makes a fool of himself.

      1. Jean:

Issac of the North is about as American as the Eiffel Tower. I quit reading him months ago (though I do admit to scanning the comments of his critics). A practice I’d recommend to any person desirous of their sanity. He’s the old man on the street corner clamoring wildly that the “End is Near,” never realizing the end he talks about is his own and the proximity is about his shoulders.

        1. Yes his rants are the same over and over and over. He would do a great deal better for his home land if he directed his rants there.
