Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) effectively called President Donald Trump a welcher after she took a DNA test as he demanded on national television on the promise that he would donate $1 million to her favorite charity. While the test by a Stanford professor showed only that she was between 0.097 per cent and 0.156 per cent American Indian, it was still a DNA test. Warren called on Trump to donate to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. President Trump however initially denied that he ever made the offer and then changed the offer retroactively to require his testing Warren.
Many of us have wondered why Warren did not simply take a DNA test after she was challenged on her long-standing claim of being part Cherokee. Her alleged Indian status was noted by prior faculties, though as I have previously stated her credentials as an academic more than warranted her work on various prestigious law schools. Former colleagues have reaffirmed the view that Warren was added to these faculties on the merits of her considerable academic record. That academic career began with a debate scholarship at George Washington University.
If was not until this year that Warren publicly acknowledged a DNA test, but it was done not by one of the leading companies but by a single Stanford professor. Nevertheless, Stanford University Professor Carlos D. Bustamante is a respected academic in the field who has consulted on the national testing programs.
According to his analysis, Warren has a Native American ancestor from six to ten generations back. If Warren’s great-great-great-grandmother were Native American, she would be 1/32 Native American but it could date back further to 10 generations — making her only 1/1,024 Native American. Even a 1/32 heritage may not translate into what most people would view as being Native American, However Cherokee Nation principal chief Bill John Baker is 1/32 Cherokee by blood. Warren claims Cherokee and Delaware heritage.
Yet, it is the test that it is important issue for the quid pro quo offer. During a July 5th campaign rally , Trump declared “I will give you a million dollars, to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian. I have a feeling she will say ‘no.’ ” She didn’t.
Trump can certainly argue that as little as 1/1,024 heritage should not be the basis for calling yourself Native American to any degree, but, as Professor Bustamante concluded, she does have Native American blood. The important thing, however, is not to deny the undeniable.
“Who cares?” he said. “I didn’t say that. You’d better read it again”:
Trump denies he owes Warren either an apology or money. In the meantime, Warren critics are citing the statement of Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. that ‘Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage . . . Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven.” Others have noted that current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America.
That still leaves the fact that she took a DNA test and a leading academic found Native American blood.
Should Trump pay up?
Allan….great comment..I totally concur.
Allan….great comment..I totally concur.
Senator Elizabeth Warren should take a trip to Bolivia. Indians don’t do powwows down here. Indians do something called a Tinku fist fight festival. Men & women will participate. No DNA test is required.
now that’s my idea of a good tribal ritual. they must be a strong and healthy people. Notice they use the open hand slap a lot. Spares the knuckles a bruising.
No, 0.09% does not make Warren a Native American and, in fact, Bustamante’s DNA test did not even compare Warren’s DNA sample to actual Native American DNA. Instead, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia as a pale substitute. Moreover, Bustamante failed to disclose the error rate of his analysis. So, Warren not only failed to establish that she’s a Native American, but she demonstrated that she never had any basis to claim that she was a Native American in the first place, as she falsely did on official forms filed at Harvard.
In short, I’m now expecting that Bustamante will soon be coming out with the results of a new DNA test establishing that Cory Booker is distantly descended from Spartacus.
Can you point out anyplace where Warren said she “was a Native American”?
Jay, sure. On Warren’s University of Pennsylvania forms, she changed her ethnicity from Category C (White/Caucasian) to Category A (Native American or Alaskan Native). Although I would normally never refer to anything published by The Boston Globe as valid, in this particular case, in the link below, the publication included excerpts from the actual forms at the U of P, so this will serve the purpose of responding to your request.

It’s like taking candy from a baby.
Elizabeth Warren is a pathetic figure.
My maternal grandfather always told us about his grandfather marrying a Choctaw Princess. The Choctaw nation headquarters in South central Okla. assured me there were no Choctaw “princesses”. I believe I probably do have some Native blood, of which I am proud, but I would NEVER assume that I deserve any special treatment, or “free stuff” that opportunists like Warren crave.
I did have one of those early-on DNA tests done almost 20 years ago. The results were vague…..it basically assured me that I was indeed originally from planet Earth! So, that was comforting…..LOL
My observation re your comment is that you should never run for public office – you would be ridiculed to the ends of the earth for your presumed Choctaw ancestry.
Jay S…….and well I should be ridiculed! But hey, I bet I’d get the coveted Choctaw Princess voting bloc in my corner…LOL
Cindy Bragg – you have my vote, but I am not Choctaw. However, I will claim ancestry just to vote for you.
Paul C…………Aw….thank you, pale face!! 🤣
Jay S. is a typical “Choctaw princess”, not to be believed.
Turley asks above: “Many of us have wondered why Warren did not simply take a DNA test after she was challenged on her long-standing claim of being part Cherokee.”
SHE DID! Anonymously. But it did not provide the results that she wanted. Sooo, she got herself a rigged test from a Democratic Party operative.

What makes you think the test was rigged, and how was it rigged? And how do you know the tester was a Democratic Party operative?
No, Trump should NOT pay, because Warren did not take a DNA test which proved she had Native American heritage, as she claimed.
She went to a Democratic Party professor, who told her what she both wanted and needed to hear. She should take a DNA test from a regular old DNA testing company.
This reminds me of Christine Ford’s phony a$$ polygraph test, which was the source of an article here a few weeks ago.

Being told that one among her great-great-great-great grandparents (or perhaps her great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents) was a red Indian likely isn’t “what she wanted to hear’. However, the partisan Democrats in this forum are trying to spin it as some sort of vindication (because they cannot stop lying…to themselves or to others).
I just find it fascinating that Warren has more Hispanic heritage than Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.
So what were Warren’s actual claims regarding her Native ancestry? She was specifically listed as a minority (Native American) faculty member by both Penn. U. Law School and Harvard Law School. 1/64 – 1/1024th ancestry means those claims are both substantively false.
Would this be the same Donald Trump that sued Bill Maher (dismissed shortly after filing) after Maher joked he would give Trump $5 million if Trump could prove he wasn’t the love-child of an orangutan? That was a lawsuit Trump filed despite his own lack of proof. And, you’ve got to admit, the resemblance is striking.
Warren lost this argument bigly…EMBARRASSING!!!
“I am a Native American. I have some questions for Elizabeth Warren”
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/15/opinions/elizabeth-warren-native-heritage-where-has-she-been-moya-smith/index.html
“No, these cretins in faux feather crowns must be criticized. Also, a DNA test doesn’t make you Native and neither does family lore, but it does breed a parade of people who will use both for selfish gain.”
“Why didn’t she say anything about the literal attacks on human rights and treaty violations during our fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota in 2016? While water protectors were being shot with water from cannons in freezing temperatures, while dogs were set on Natives protecting their ancestors’ graves, and while Natives and allies were locked into “dog kennels,” Warren’s silence was deafening. While she eventually weighed in with a statement on Facebook, that was rightly and widely dismissed as too little, too late.
Why, up until only earlier this year, hasn’t Warren said anything about police brutality in Indian country? Natives are more likely to die at the hands of police then any other demographic, yet for years, her voice — her allegedly Native voice — was nowhere to be found.
Why, up until only earlier this year, hasn’t she said anything about sexual abuse in Indian country? Native women are 2.5 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than women of any other group, and yet not a peep from Warren about the attack on the people she claims to be a part of.”
if there was ever a bad act of “cultural appropriation” it was Warren’s. Where are the leftists to denounce her? And yet Disney will recast its lexicon. crazy
Did Trump and Warren shake on the bet?
trump is a con man and a liar. Nothing new here.
Elizabeth Warren is shown to have no more Indian ancestry than a randomly selected white American and Trump is the conman and liar? You’re a case study in favor of Harvey Mansfield’s description of the Democratic Party: a coalition of professors and morons.
And it’s hard to tell one from the other.
mespo……..LOL. …actually, you can tell one from another: morons are likeable.
(of course, I exclude our host from that evaluation)
“trump is a con man and a liar. Nothing new here.”
They both are. But she’s the bigger one. Having misled two separate employers into bringing her on as a minority hire, she falsely claimed that one side of her family is native american and tarred the other side as racists, all as part of some moronic Romeo and Juliet narrative about her parents or her grandparents, or whoever the hell she said they were (need we really be overly scrupulous about the details of this made up story?). She stood by and let Harvard Law wrongly claim her as their first tenured faculty woman of color.
But the worst thing is the way CNN, et al., spun this DNA test as somehow vindicating her. These are truly the dark ages of American Journalism. No Edward R. Murrows in this day and age.
For me, the horrible thing about the trump era is not so much trump himself. Rather, for all his fibs, his childish bluster, his ignorance, and his unprofessionalism, he manages to bring out so much of the very worst in his enemies, including the news media. They and the democrats have essentially decided that in the era of Trump, we have a state of emergency in which the first Amendment and the due process clause can essentially be ditched. Commentators constantly portray trump’s frankly imprecise understanding of such things as separation of powers as a full scale push for authoritarianism, for which there is little actual evidence. Yet they have no problem at all winking at the violence and unabashedly totalitarian tendencies of antifa and other components of the nihilistic left, which is increasingly coming to take over the Democratic Party itself.
Did you see the Leslie Stahl interview on 60 Minutes? What we saw was a knowledgeable and an able President stating the facts as they are or at least as he sees them. We saw Stahl show clips in the early segment to dispute the President without those clips accurately stating the truth. That prevented the President from responding to the allegations made via innuendo as they were an add on to boost Stahl’s position that she couldn’t defend We saw Stahl trying to interrupt answers to questions she had provided without giving him more than seconds to answer. IMO the President stated things very accurately.
Trump is a showman on the road doing what showmen do. Among the most important things the President said that informed the public what he was dealing with was his comments on Washington being a vicious place.
Allan…….my reply to your comment escaped…and has subdivided upstream!
At any rate, I concur with your excellent comment!
Cindy, thanks. I’ll say it again. You are a complete woman while alot of the other women on this blog are empty shells filled up with nonesense.
Allan…..I appreciate that.
Those ancestors of Warren more likely came from some territory like India or what is now the far east of Russia. To me her photo indicates that she is a friggin Irish. I refer to Blazing Saddles movie: “But not the Irish!” That sentence was said when the major of some town decided to let some black folks into town to help defend it from an Indian attack but the Mayor was not going to put up with some damn Irish migrants.
oh yeah
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ThaS47rqlE
Conor McGregor is the Irish who needs to have his visa revoked,. these days
Sam — My father’s parents came from the more northerly portion of Norway. Their very remote ancestors, at least in part, came from western Beringia via Siberia. But long before that, even more remote ancestors came out of Africa.
The story of human origin and migration is long, fascinating, and constantly being refined. For example, all of us out of Africa people are 1–2% genetically Neanderthal. All.
I can’t help commenting that some people (say, living in the White House) might be a lot more Neanderthal than that…..
Not in the slightest. The Neanderthals were not dimwits.
David Benson is the King of Making Stuff Up and owes me sixteen citations (one from the OED) and the source of a quotation, after nineteen weeks, and needs to cite all his work from now on. – let’s face it. Warren is less Indian than Neanderthal. That is just embarrassing.
Sounds like Warren has RDS, Rachel Dolezal Syndrome, no wait, make that NADS, Nkechi Amare Diallo syndrome.
This is perfectly fine with Dems. After all isn’t validating and normalizing psychosis, mental illness and delusions what liberals are all about?
If a white woman can be a fake black woman and take a fake black name, certainly a White Democrat Senator can be a fake Native American and be given a real Indian name, Pocahontas, taken from from a Real Native American woman whose ancestors came from Asia.
Of course would be best to leave that Asia part out if any Real Native American is trying to get any kind of gig at Harvard.
Incoherent and wrong.
What are you imbibing?
Who are you asking?
You, Dawn.
Imbibing in truth. Something, I realize, libs don’t do but at least you could try to keep up.
Dawn – Pocahontas is actually the little girl’s nickname, not her birth name. 😉 Actual Trivial Pursuit question: Where is she buried?
In the ground.
mespo – exact location is required. And no peeking. 😉
England
You should know as a native Virginian, I took Virginia history.
mespo – this isn’t 20 questions. Where in England? 😉 That is like saying G.A. Custer is buried in the U.S.
Westminster Abbey? Just guessing, Paul C.
Cindy Bragg – guessed wrong. 🙁
Darn the luck!
Who knows? I’m guessing some church yard .
mespo – banks of the Thames. They were sailing back to America and she died. They had to bury her immediately and then they sailed on. That is worth at least a drink somewhere. 😉
Paul….that is so interesting…I just read that it was a place called Gravesend, Kent.
I never knew any of this. Thank you for the history lesson!
Cindy Bragg – Gravesend is the end of the Thames.
It is but I think they lost her body when the church burned down in the 18th Century.
Paul C. That is fascinating that Gravesend is at the end of the Thames…..never heard of any of this. Thank you, Professor Paul!
Trump did not deny anything. He demanded proof.
In July Trump said that if he debated Warren he would toss her a DNA test and offer $1 million to charity if it proved she was “an Indian.”
His exact words were:
“I will give you a million dollars to your favorite charity paid for by Trump if you take the test, and it shows you’re an Indian.”
Instead Warren secretly chose the tester Carlos D. Bustamante whose liberal credentials are similar to Kavanaughs accusers as the one to do the test.
This is what Carlos D. Bustamante said.
“The vast majority” of Warren’s ancestry is European. The results strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor.”
This language is nearly verbatim to language used by anti Kavanaugh dems who said ford’s accusations strongly support her claims even though she could not present or even remember any actual, verifiable facts.
Bustamantes results are supposed to support Warrens claim of Native American ancestory even though no actual Native American DNA was used in the testing.
The excuse for not using actual Native American DNA was, detecting DNA for Native Americans is particularly tricky because there is an absence of Native American DNA available for comparison.
“The amount of genetic data that is available from Native Americans is sparse.”
Really? Are we asked to believe that out of over 5 million native Americans in the US, Bustamante, couldn’t find a single one to get a DNA sample from?
This is what Bustamante did instead of using Native American samples.
To make up for the dearth of Native American DNA, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia to stand in for Native American.
8Bustamante said he can “tease out” the markers that these South Americans should have in common with Native Americans on the North American continent.
This is the results Bustamante “teased out.”
Warren may or may not be 1/1,024th Native American, IF of course, the DNA used was Warrens.
Without proof of chain of custody and given Warrens past machinations and untruths about her alleged ancestory, that is questionable at best.
Is there a lawyer in the world who would take evidence like this into a court and present it as proof?
Oh wait, Stanford Professor, ultra progressive leftist democrat Senator, opportunity to attack Trump….never mind.
As I have repeatedly mentioned in these comments, essentially all of indigenee DNA is highly similar in the contiguous USA and all of Latin America. The only exceptions are the Athabaskans.
So the test showed that Elizabeth Warren had a small percentage of Amerindian DNA. The same DNA for Cherokees and all the indigenees in South America.
David Benson is the King of Making Stuff Up and owes me sixteen citations (one from the OED) and the source of a quotation, after nineteen weeks, and needs to cite all his work from now on. – 1/1024 is not small, it is statically insignificant. BTW, are you now declaring yourself an expect in Indian DNA now?
Making stuff up again.
No, mespo, I just pass on parts of what I have read.
Athabaskans, not a small group apparently.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabaskan_languages
Yet that’s beside the point. The bottom line, Liz Warren is white. She should have hid those test results, they prove the point that she isn’t. this is funny and sad and pathetic all at once.
It’s funny that people try so hard not to be white, and yet, we are told that there is white privilege. And I think there is. I agree with the leftists on that point, it is a rich cultural heritage that we have as white folks that we are lucky to inherit. I feel no shame in this.
And yet rich and famous politicians like Warren who make hay out of badgering white people run away from the label. Pathetic.
One of the characteristics of politicians is that they don’t know when to shut up. Warren exposed a certain inability to think before speaking when she touted a heritage that was not really appropriate, for whatever reasons. Just as with Hillary and others, Trump will hit the dirt running with this. Trump uses stuff that never existed, so imagine how he will use this if Warren runs against him. Trump is capable of absolutely anything, mostly what will work against any other politician. Trump’s public, which includes his supporters as well as those who are slowly becoming numbed by his lies and disgusting behavior, see this as mostly entertainment. Trump is neck deep in sh*# and smells to high heaven. Going against Trump the only characteristic an opponent can have is to not be in sh*# up to their necks and have as much integrity as possible. Warren made a mistake in including a wisp of Native American blood in her life, way back when and in her ongoing arguments. Being proud of being 1/64th Native American is just silly. So Trump starts with silly and will ride this horse across the reservation until it drops from exhaustion.
Our only hope is that enough voters will dismiss this nonsense and replace America’s disgrace with someone like Warren, if she will only drop the Hiawatha routine.
issac – according to the person who did the DNA, the ancestor could have come into Warren’s family as far back as 250 years ago or not at all. You have to remember the Cherokee are one of the Civilized Tribes and keep incredible records. They are as good as the Germans. issac, if you are white and take a DNA test, you will probably have more chance of having Native American ancestors than Warren. She is at the level of statistical noise.
But….her Paw Paw said she has the high cheekbones. 😉
TBob – her Paw Paw probably said she was beautiful, too. Fathers lie to daughters to make them feel good about themselves.
I’m one of those unfortunate mutts that doesn’t have an ethnic peg on which to hang my hat. My mother’s father came from a little town called ‘Redhead’ in the former Austrian Hungarian Empire, now Ukraine. My father’s father and mother came from the third island out in the Hebrides. Scottish, Ukrainian, Canadian, American; I don’t put too much value on this heritage BS. It’s sort of a Zen thing; you are who you are when you enter the room. The tail that needs to evolve off of the beast is the value one gives oneself for being born.
issac – Elizabeth Warren’s problem is that she has hitched her wagon to this story and now she is stuck with it. However, according to the DNA report she is whiter than white. 😉 If you were any of the universities that she taught at where she claimed to be a minority, they have got to feel cheated. 🙂 Karma is a bit*h.
Fraud.
Pow wow chow is like me doing cook book on Chinese food.
