There is another poll out to today showing growing dissatisfaction among voters over President Donald Trump’s performance in office. According to Gallup, sixty percent Americans disapprove of President Trump’s job performance. What is interesting is that Trump still maintains his core of 38 percent of supporters. That still makes him more popular than figures like French President Emmanuel Macron with only 26 percent of voters with a favorable view of his tenure in office. However, it is hard to see how Trump can prevail in 2020 with such an increasingly alienated and hostile majority.
The weekly presidential job approval tracker released Monday found that 60 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s performance which matches his worst polls. This is the forth time that he has hit the 60 percent level.
Trump can take some solace in a RealClearPolitics average of polls which show an approval rating of roughly 43 percent and his disapproval rating of roughly 53 percent.
The only poll that matters is the one taken on Election Day. All others are completely useless, as we found out on Election Day 2016.
(Unless you’re Slick Willy, who tended to govern by poll.)
THAT 38% TURLEY FINDS “INTERESTING”..
REFLECTS THE RIGHTWING MEDIA BUBBLE
There is a core group of conservative ‘dead-enders’ who get all or most of their news from rightwing media. People within that bubble view the world from an ‘us vs. them’ perspective. They are the base Trump panders to with constant references to ‘Fake News’. Trump admitted as much in a recent interview. The public’s confidence in mainstream media has fallen since Trump took office. And Trump proudly credits himself for that drop in confidence.
One has to pause here and ask, “Why would a U.S. president want to undermine confidence in mainstream media?”. Does this sound like a positive achievement? What if a national crisis develops? The outbreak of a contagious disease, for instance, could be the gravest of disasters if large segments of the public dismiss the story as only ‘Fake News’.
Domestic terrorism is another threat that could thrive in an atmosphere of mistrust. We have seen those dynamics with regards to mass shootings. Each incident is viewed with suspicion by people using terms like ‘hoax’ and ‘crisis actors’. The Parkland School Massacre evoked shocking levels of cynicism fanned by rightwing media. Those dynamics could seriously undermine national security amid an outbreak of domestic terror.
An outbreak of domestic terrorism could challenge the FBI; an institution Trump has sought to degrade. ‘Deep State’ is Trump’s companion threat to ‘Fake News’. These conspiracies compliment each other to undermine any person or institution critical of Trump. But in the event of a national crisis, those conspiracies could undermine our national response. An outbreak of domestic terrorism could be seen as a ‘hoax’ until widespread chaos engulfs America.
Only an evil leader takes pride in undermining crucial institutions. No honest man, with faith in Christian ideals, deliberately sets about to destroy our national unity. Donald Trump is using every principle from the old Soviet playbook. The concept is to ‘gaslight’ the people with endless lies and confusion. So ‘no one really knows what the hell is happening’; that’s the whole idea! The perfect environment for suspending democracy.
A PREVIEW OF ALLAN’S REPLY
“Peter Schill tells us that Trump is trying to gaslight the country to suspend democracy. Of course Trump is.. and we totally support him! Obama allowed the the government to be overrun by leftist radicals. Now Trump is faced with the task of purging those leftists.
Democracy will have to be suspended for the national good. We have faith that Trump will guide us through the transition. And if he should die or become incapacitated, Trump’s sons and son-in-law will pick up any slack.
We have faith the Trump’s can purge our country of leftists and restore it to the constitutional republic our founders envisioned.
A preview with a quote beginning the statement and none of my words following? How dishonest can Peter Shill get. Not only that but this preview distorts the truth and makes up stories as he goes along.
Take note how Peter Shill can’t quote my actual sentences and then dispute them. Why? Because Peter Shill prefers to misquote, lie, distort and do other things rather than put in the effort to defend his position.
“Take note how Peter Shill can’t quote my actual sentences and then dispute them. Why? Because Peter Shill prefers to misquote, lie, distort and do other things rather than put in the effort to defend his position.”
More Allanonsense from Allanucklehead.
It’s because Allan’s a waste of time, energy and breath.
No, it’s because sometimes Peter’s quotes have been made up and I am not talking about his recent use of a single quote. Peter also twists the truth and occassionally doesn’t tell it. You are just an empty headed.
Peter says: “One has to pause here and ask, “Why would a U.S. president want to undermine confidence in mainstream media?”. Does this sound like a positive achievement? What if a national crisis develops? ….”
It is a good achievement. The corporate media exhibits corporate bias. There is a bias toward economic strategies called commodification (see Amazon and all its “creative destruction” of its competitors down to local retail…. which is owned by Jeff Bezos who owns Wapo…. just examples)
and also the strategy of financialization. by which the FIRE sector seeks to advance its profits through greater globalization which is also advanced by imperialistic wars. Newspapers which represent these interests: wall st journal and the NYT. I refer you to Michael Hudson’s work. He is considered a leftist perhaps you may like him.
What corporate news mouthpieces represents the steel industry? or autos? they don’t own newspapers and tv stations, sorry. But Trump has advanced their interests. Boo hoo; life has winners and losers. For once middle America has a player on the field!
Peter says: “Domestic terrorism is another threat that could thrive in an atmosphere of mistrust. We have seen those dynamics with regards to mass shootings. Each incident is viewed with suspicion by people using terms like ‘hoax’ and ‘crisis actors’. ….”.
Yes because in fact both intelligence operations and law enforcement use moles, grassers, provocateurs, informants, and undercovers not only to gain information but to provoke illegal activity and engage in it themselves.
Why, do you think some people still remember the name of Carol Howe, an ATF information who told the ATF in OKC IN ADVANCE that the Murrah building was a target of attack? What did the ATF do to stop the tragedy? Nothing. Stood back and let it happen!
https://www.nytimes.com/1997/08/02/us/a-spy-on-radical-right-is-acquitted.html
No wonder Americans don’t trust the spook agencies!
Peter says: “An outbreak of domestic terrorism could challenge the FBI; an institution Trump has sought to degrade. ‘Deep State’ is Trump’s companion threat to ‘Fake News’. These conspiracies compliment each other to undermine any person or institution critical of Trump. But in the event of a national crisis, those conspiracies could undermine our national response. HO BOY A CHRISTIAN. That is just an effort to defang the adversary. Christianity has been consistently dumped on by the Left and they only activate it to make conservatives cower. really, I could care less whether or not some Democrat things I or my guy is a good Christian! LOL
Here is a book that actually does answer what is happening in this process

Kurtz, I was going to provide a satirical ‘preview’ of your response. But I can’t top what you wrote!
you can mock me but before you dismiss it why not test the hypothesis that your vaunted corporate mass media actually exercises control over its content to advance its corporate interests. perhaps start by inform yourself about the topic of “Financialization”
https://michael-hudson.com/
in fact you would benefit yourself to go through all his glossary of terms!
he’s an eminent economist, a professor at U of Kansas, has had quite an interesting life including a role in the detachment of the dollar from gold. he remains very insightful
https://michael-hudson.com/2018/08/life-thought-an-autobiography/
there’s very little there about Trump, the value comes almost entirely from his work of many previous decades, but in it you could– COULD– learn what has happened with the deindustrialization of America and why certain key elements of Trump’s agenda are both good for America and hated by financial interests who use media to try and get rid of him. hint: trade war
just keep on ignoring carol howe. you can pick that sore until it bleeds pus so rank it would make you puke. just ignore it instead.
keep on pretending the government hasnt actually got a very real history of using the false flag tactic; or not quite so awful but equally troubling– just letting certain horrific crimes happen to allow, both for the desired effect of a situational change in public opinion that favors the government agenda.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/aug/02/vietnam-presidents-lie-to-wage-war-iraq
in my mind, if the public is wary of false flags, that’s a good thing. there’s a sordid history, take your pick:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:False_flag_operations
Peter, seems like you’re just here to post new stuff and never bother to address replies.
That’s the annoying and yet valid tactic of an experienced politico who never bothers to address what the questioner asks, only uses the mic to project his own message. seems like you have some skill in politics, accordingly. maybe you’re working for a campaign now huh? care to share which one? we might be impressed.
Peter talks to the choir and therefore thinks his music sounds great.
Kurtz, the media, including Fox News, is owned by huge corporations for a very good reason. It takes deep pockets to fund a major news organization. Talented writers, editors, foreign bureaus, photographers, film editors and graphic artists are all valuable commodities that don’t come cheap! What’s more, the internet and cable TV have completely destroyed the old business models that supported news organizations. Consequently we’ve reached an age where only billionaires can really afford to own newspapers.
” It takes deep pockets to fund a major news organization.”
Fox News makes money. Deep pockets are everywhere. The money can even originate from wage earners that combine their resources. Bezos bought the Washington Post for a relatively small amount $250 Million, which could have been raised by others in a multitude of ways. He, however, has talent and was able to improve the financials of the company while using it to promote more of his viewpoints. In this country he has risen to almost oligarchy status so one should consider some of his viewpoints as views that are favorable to oligarchs.
thats all true
but citizen kane told the truth too
the ownership and managerial class of the paper exert editorial control according to their interests and whims
you keep on acting like journalists are unbiased scientists.
they’re nothing of the sort.
and a lot of those corporations do not like Trumps’ economic policies and so they nitpick him over all these other things.
it’s really just about other stuff that they won’t project because it would expose their own corporate biases
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzhb3U2cONs
i refered to how the FIRE sector of the economy benefits from globalization and financialization but manufacturing and other heavy industries do not. Perhaps you might just quit pretending that Hillary and all the Democrats are such champions of truth and the poor., Really that is a ruse. They are champions of a different sector of oligarchy and pawns thereof,. that’s pretty much all.
Republicans too represent a different sector of oligarchy; but in Trump the middle-American people found a champion however much the Republicans did not like him; the Kroch brothers and all them. By contrast, the Dem’s erstwhile champion Bernie got knifed in the back by Hillary. But he coulda been a contender~! lol
Mr Kurtz on November 27, 2018 at 2:01 PM
“Peter, seems like you’re just here to post new stuff…”
So?
“…and never bother to address replies.”
It’s not required that one reply.
Find a chat room if that’s what you want.
Kurtz is just saying things as they are. Empty heads don’t think and therefore are unable to participate in a back and forth discussion. That is a reasonable conclusion for one to draw.
And Allan — unlike Peter — feels that he must respond to almost each and every comment. Some might refer to it as “diarrhea of the mouth.” He just can’t shut up; he has to be running his mouth.
You miss that the comment originates from Peter.
And as far as diarrhea of the mouth have you ever read what you have written?
no, i think i’ll stay here. like him i get to say what i want too, including taunting peter for rarely if ever confronting his critics, just moving on to another Peter’s Headline News
I especially could care less whether the Dutch Reformed approves of me disliking all the Laotions they have sponsored and imported to this country; or all the Somalis the Lutherans have sponsored; or the teeming hordes of central americans the Catholics have sponsored. They thought it was important to get money from the goobermint for “refugee resettlement activities” and took ZERO consideration of the interests and opinions of their native flocks! They were just about the money
The “Christian” clergy are in ZERO place to wag the finger at their fewer and fewer adherents for being racist and nativist and all that. Pretty soon, they will end up like Presbyterians: more Americans claim to be witches!
To the extent that the Christianity of centuries past was coherent with national identity, it isn’t anymore. They’ve made themselves propagandists of the big donors and serve their interests just like every other organization. The people look to a leader who actually seems like he has their interests at heart, instead: DONALD J TRUMP!
I can tell you Peter, if the average Republican wont say: never have regular Americans been so disgusted and fed up with all the money grubbing and prattling of the worthless socalled Christian pastors!
Let them all go bankrupt. I’m a Catholic; it would be sad to see churches shuttered but the bishops close them whenever they like anyhow, just like so many local franchises if they don’t make enough money!
For example, for all I care, the state of Pennsylvania can bring a big RICO case against the whole statewide network of bishops for harboring child molesters and toss them all in prison, and punch through and plunder their endowments, too. It’s high time the princes of the Church taste the power of the state that they have licked the boots of for so long! Now they can get a kick! and richly deserve it.
Haha. “Regular” Americans. Riiiiigghhht. So sorry to burst your bucolic bubble, but a gaggle of oldsters clucking down at the feed store / tractor repair shop in B.F.E. Nowheresville about hannity’s latest zanyspeak aren’t “regular” Americans by any stretch.
this is to everyone’s favorite “bagman” kurtzie
i may have been a bagman but i never been a ballbagger
you go on down there to the feed store and toss around some homo jokes with the hayseeds Mark, I will stay warm in the office this week thank you
by which the FIRE sector seeks to advance its profits through greater globalization which is also advanced by imperialistic wars.
This is a nonsense statement.
not at all. nation borders constitute impediments to the easy transfer of capital across borders. oh and not just capital but also labor. which is why investment bankers tend to overwhelmingly favor globalist candidates like Hillary who will prop up transnational structures like NAFTA and the EU and also facilitate easier labor migration regimes.
nationalist candidates, be they left or right, pose a threat to the ongoing globalization process. DJT trade wars and his migration policy annoy the entrenched investment banking elites by throwing up hurdles to their financialization schemes. ditto that the brexit for example
right wing aka populist regimes like Orban’s are Euroskeptic and throw up fences. Brexit queers the trade setup of the EU and was a populist measure. Hurts business that operates based on transnational commerce and finance.
Al;so Left wing nationalists such as communists for example, have over decades resorted to capital outflow laws. Tons of exmaples.
and of course more of late, it is very fair to say the biggest left wing nationalist power on Earth the PRC, is very clever and favors only those liberalization measures which will benefit themselves.
DJT’s trade war is good for america in the long run, but it has severely disrupted some companies business. Those companies and their competitors can align politically to take him out. they don’t care about “America” they care about profits
populism is always a potential threat to capitalist interests in this phase of history. it was not back in 1789, rather democracy and populism were the vehicles of capitalist interests. now, not so much
in mid 2017 it looked like Trump had neutralized opposition from Wall Street…. they got their tax cut. but “they” are not a monolithic mass; as I say some sectors will be more against him sooner than others. and some may like him
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/trump-has-kept-his-promises-to-wall-street-2017-07-27
some of what i said was an oversimplification like saying manufacturing didnt benefit from globalization; well of course certain types do and certain types dont. but generally i hypothesize that the greater the complexity of the credit or financing arrangements and the greater the distance geographically in supply chain, the more they’re going to be opposed to trade war and the more they’re going to want trade deals if only to make transnational costs simpler.
here is where Geo Soros style think comes into play. He is advancing the interests of global capitalism, that’s all. Nations have to go. That’s Davos in a nutshell. Well, they may slander DJT but really it’s just business
“Tom, tell mike it was only business”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFqgRFal35A
maybe captains of finance whose scheming against the interests of the American people and nation need firm removals from their vaunted positions like tessio. i mean that only metaphorically of course. and just as Mike might say to Sal in return, sure, it’s only business !
consider the penetration of resource harvesting in Afghanistan, by mining interests formerly shut out by taliban; the oil exploration opportunities formerly limited by Qadaffi’s strong hand; and the socialistic restrictions on commerce held in place by Saddam Hussein. There is a lot of business done in those places now
This is what was foreseen by Lenin in “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism” a work of prescient genius. hopefully, the process will not end as he expected it to with the global dictatorship of the proletariat.
who knows where it will end. maybe the global dictatorship of advanced AI that is yet uncreated and the remaining humans hooked up to 24 hour narcotic drips and VR simulations. or mad max. or maybe it will all just slouch sideways, but i doubt it
“The public’s confidence in mainstream media has fallen since Trump took office. ”
As it should. There is a better source than mainstream news media as far as economic data is concerned. There is data that can be compared from one Presidential term to the next. That is the type of thing you leave out.
There is such a thing as real news. Once the media editorializes in the news section they have diminished the credibility of their news.
“The Parkland School Massacre evoked shocking levels of cynicism fanned by rightwing media.”
What type of cynicism? The cynicism about the sheriffs department that was called tens of times or the cynacism about the FBI that was notified multiple times or the cynicism of the Promise order by Obama that is one of the causes that permitted the Parkland School Massacre to occur?
Terrorism? A real threat yet we do not make sure that those that enter our border will not harm us and will not bring over drugs that lead to 60,000-70,000 deaths a year. The right is worried. The left is on pot or refuses to get off the pot.
When there talk of gaslighting all we have to do is look at you and look at what you say.
This is primarily BS. One has to take into consideration the context, the moment, the condition the President inherited. Trump inherited a rising economy, lowering joblessness, and an overall stabilizing of the nation through Obama. Trump came in using words like the worst this and the most disastrous that to describe the stabilized and rising economy. Then he offered himself as the savior of what needed no saving. The dupes were captured by Mr. Sizzle but no Steak, All hat no Cattle. Then Trump layered on the lies and false statistics, unendingly. This is described in the book someone wrote on which he put his name, The Art of the Deal. BS, BS, and more BS until people forget the truth. Trump claims to be the reason the sun rises every day.
One is reminded of the joke.
“What are you doing waving your arms in the air?”
“Keeping away the aliens.”
“I don’t see any aliens.”
“There, you see, it’s working.”
One can take the raw data (not conflated) Issac talks about and put that data on a graph. It will show a very noticeable upward positive spike under Trump which is sometimes preceded by a very noticeable downward negative spike under Obama. It doesn’t seem like Issac has a good handle on the actual numbers.
Issac has an excellent handle on the actual numbers.
Sam doesnt have a good handle on Isaac though he would like to manhandle Isaac just like we do. Isaac how hung is your member? number in inches please
If you think so Samantha, but that doesn’t reflect well on your command of actual numbers.
Allan
The facts are that Obama inherited a tanking economy. One can blame the recession on a momentum that started well before Bush but one cannot ignore the immense damage that Bush did to America. The Obama stabilization and recovery lasted six years. It is not unusual for a correction to happen during a long upward swing. This happened in 2001 with the dip in the overall tech upswing.
What is obvious is that Trump came in on an upward swing which was the economy moving back into the black recovering from being in the red. What is also obvious is that Trump is almost all hype and next to no substance. What is starting to materialize is that Trump has had little to no long term positive effect on the economy. The global economical trends are ignoring his BS and he is doing nothing to organize against it. This is because Trump is a global oligarch. Why would he sh*t where he eats?
“The facts are that Obama inherited a tanking economy.”
That is true and now you can continue to make things up. Look at the history of recessions. Look at the things he did that reduced job opportunities. Look at how the TARP money was spent. Look at the economics. Graph the unemployment data along with what is normally expected. Do the same with GDP data. Check the video’s to hear what Obama said about the economy not being able to grow and magic wands.
Many of the major metrics show a downturn in rates or growth and an upturn as soon as Trump won.
There are a lot of factors involved so it is fair to say rates and growth might not have been as good as some say, but certainly what Trump has done has shown a marked improvement over what Obama was doing.
Now you can go back and soothe yourself saying Obama is a great economist. Obama is a great economist.
President Trump’s “performance”
Jobs available
Manufacturing back
Economy doing good
Americans off Food Stamps
New Trade Deals to benefit USA
Small business growth start up
Regulations cut
Taxes cut
Veterans medical
Prison reform
Promises Made
Promises Kept
What’s not to like!
What’s not to like, you ask?
Kids in cages, to serve as a deterrent to people seeking asylum, even though there is a right to seek asylum;
Kids tear-gassed, then lying about it;
Kids watching their mother get impaled on rebar because no organized or reasonable plan in place to handle a large caravan of migrants that the government knew was coming and had time to prepare for and handle properly according to law. No resources or plans to increase resources for processing of the increased number of asylum claims, due to lack of leadership of the clueless bottle blondie running Homeland Security. Instead, politicization of this humanitarian crisis.
Puxxy grabbing and bragging about it
Paying off porn star and Playboy model, then lying about it
Endless lying, lying, lying
Stock market tanked, erasing all gains over the last year
Tariffs, hurting U.S. business
15,000 GM factory jobs lost
Entire rest of civilized world laughing at the fake POTUS and shocked that the rest of us allow this farce to continue;
Supports Putin over CIA; Helsinki summit a PR disaster for the U.S. because fake POTUS kow towed to Putin
Supports Saudi Arabia’s clown price, despite the fact that he ordered the murder of a U.S.-based journalist, because Trump, Inc. can’t borrow any money from U.S. banks due to multiple business bankruptcies, and because “it’s good for business”. After all, that’s all that counts–right?
Won’t disclose tax returns, so he can keep lying about how wealthy he is and so we cannot find out who he’s beholden to;
Disrespect for military: didn’t go to Arlington on Veterans’ Day, mocking John McCain, a war hero, disrespecting Gold Star family because they are Muslim
Turning Thanksgiving call (not visit, which would interrupt golf vacation) into moment of self-praise and aggrandization, which mocks the sacrifice of brave men and women; Fatso wouldn’t stoop to put on the uniform; ditto for his clueless sons and dumb, bleached Ivanka
Surrounded by crooks who either were convicted or pleaded guilty, like Manafort, Papadopolous, et al, who ran his campaign
Appointment of totally unqualified family as “senior” advisers, including dumb, bleached Ivanka and her feckless husband; doesn’t understand that the U.S. government isn’t a monarchy.
Appointment of unqualified agency heads, like Betsy DeVos, Mnuchin, et al, whose views are contrary to the mission of the agencies they head.
Denial of the truth of human-caused climate change, despite the report from our own government;
Racism and praise for White Supremacists even though they ran over and killed Heather Heyer, a peaceful protester
Politicizing the SCOTUS–appointing Bart Kavanaugh solely because he is virulently anti-Clinton and because he penned a piece saying that the POTUS is not subject to process or criminal prosecution; Kavanaugh’s opinions are more frequently overturned than other justices, and he is often a dissenter because his views are not mainstream;
Disrespecting the judiciary–accusing them of being completely partisan, especially when he loses a court ruling. Claimed Judge Curiel was not qualified because he has Mexican heritage. Just because he appointed Kavanaugh because Kavanaugh is partisan does not mean that judges appointed by other administrations are also partisan. Fatso doesn’t understand this. In fact, he doesn’t really understand how the 3 branches of our government work.
Disrespecting most media (other than Limbaugh and Faux News, which don’t count) because they tell the truth about him, all of which is to try to sow seeds of doubt.
Fired Sessions because he complied with the Rules of Professional Responsibility for an attorney in the Justice Department; appointed big fatty Matty to take his place because big fatty Matty likely made a loyalty pledge and would be willing to fire Mueller; big fatty Matty’s main prior experience had been as a pro-Trump pundit. Not qualified to be AG or even acting AG.
Historic turn over in White House and agency heads, causing lack of leadership and chaos.
That’s just for starters.
yawn
this is a lot of boo hoo hoo stuff. The Americans who like Trump enjoy it when he does things like criticize or “disrespect” the mass media who have disrespected us for decades. Or, resist invasion of our country by foreigners. We like that. We don’t shed tears over it. Or, disquiet the DC swamp with his unpredictable outsider tactics. Great! Keep up the good work DJT!
“one man one vote” is a slogan that can cut both ways! Maybe the neoliberal establishment has finally stepped on too many toes and those toes are itching to kick back in return?
hey Natacha,
Do you just regurgitate what you hear on BSNBC or Fake News CNN?
Do you know that what’s going on at the border now under Trump is what was going on at the border with Obama? And it was going on at the border with W Bush?
Obama put kids in “cages” — in fact chain link separations or “cages” started under Obama. Obama separated “families.” Obama used “force” and “tear gas.” W Bush had “family detention” centers that the Dems balked about so they stopped them and started separtating kids. Now the Dems are screaming about separating kids and families. So which is it?
Facts don’t matter to you, do they?
they can make up ten new lies in the time it takes to refute one old one
the internet leverages the power of the liar
——————-
they cover their tracks by use of the “throw the snitch jacket” method
a snitch jacket is a prisoner file notation that the prisoner is an informant
throwing the snitch jacket is method whereby one prisoner gets another target prisoner into trouble by accusing him of being a snitch (throwing the jacket)
it’s also a favorite method of snitches
so in life you will see cluster b personality types doing this a lot: they lie habitually and knowingly, but to deflect others, accuse others first to confuse detection of their own prevarications
im not saying who does this; all kinds of people may do it, but its an interesting phenomenon
It is an interesting phenomenon. And I would have to agree. Natacha is definitely a “cluster b personality type’… 🙂
oh, im not a pscyhiatrist, i cant diagnose, just mindlessly repeating something beamed into my head when i took my tinfoil hat off
Gallop hasn’t been doing so well. Rasmussen notes a 49% support for the President and tracking Trump against Obama is quite close.
Gallup is the most venerable of pollsters, but they’ve had more than there share of issues with accuracy in recent years.
Presidential job approval assessed through Gallup’s methodology fluctuates from week to week. Why do you suppose Turley picks a down week, after ignoring every other week?
While we’re at it, why is the week-to-week flux in this poll of any interest to a law professor?
Wretched asks: “While we’re at it, why is the week-to-week flux in this poll of any interest to a law professor?”
Judging by what he posts, there are many things that interest Jonathan Turley.
One might also ask why you spend so much time here; why is this blog of such great interest to you — beyond reading it daily and making a few comments here and there?
Maybe Jonathan should start posting the total number of comments made the most frequent posters. We could track folks like you, Allan, and Paul to see just how much time you actually spend here. And because there’s likely nothing wrong with the spam filter — given that you’re the only one that seems to have had problems with it — why do you change your user name every few months?
I like it because i have a many decades long interest in constitutional law going back to law school, speaking for myself, as the most prolific poster.
Any other questions anonymouse? Is that ok with you?
Your name wasn’t included in my list, FWIW, Mr. Kurtz.
well the shoe fits because i confess that i spend too much time here. also it’s fun! fun is good. makes heart happy!
Anonymous, you seem to be on this blog a lot as well. It takes less than a minute to read and respond to most posts. Longer posts might take 2 minutes where all that time can be interspersed while working or watching TV. No big deal.
“Anonymous, you seem to be on this blog a lot as well.”
Sometimes I don’t check in for days or weeks.
Your days and weeks must be a lot shorter than mine.
How long are your days on your flat earth? When the truth hits you right in the chops, you will be the first one on this site to yell fake news and write everybody is lying.
Fishwings, when are you ever going to learn how to count so you can look at the real numbers yourself. Real news doesn’t editorialize in the news section.
I would guess the following
a) new content drives hits, and hits help define success
b) he’s busy so he made a super short and easy update
The polls meant nothing in 2016 and they mean even less now.
I think we should pay attention to this poll just like we paid attention to presidential polls in 2016. Speaking of presidential polls, Gallup stop doing that after they whiffed in 2012 when their polling data pointed to Romney as clear winner. Jon Turley Hype Machine has picked a fine source for polling data, and so meaningful two years out. Oy ve.
Excellent. From the wackjob tomfoolery spewed from the usual suspects in here, I see the ball-baggers of the day glo bozo still don’t recognize the salient question: “what is that ticking sound?”
speaking of fools, Marky…..
“WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans are largely pessimistic that President Donald Trump and the Democrats in Congress will cooperate much over the next two years once Democrats assume control of the House of Representatives in January. Thirty-three percent believe Trump will cooperate a great deal or fair amount with the Democrats, while 28% think the Democrats will do the same with Trump. Both percentages are well below what Gallup measured in 2006, the last time Democrats took control of the House and prepared to govern with a Republican president, George W. Bush.”

now you’ve gone from falsely defaming me ball bagging Hannity a person i have never met and do not watch, to say that all trump supporters are his ball baggers. this of course does not refer to golf it refers to oral stimulation of the scrotum and i don’t do that. and have never met Trump either
Mark M if he were polite, would desist from uncivil talk accusing people he does not know of homosexual oral copulation, it’s very rude and inappropriate on a law blog especially when the interlocutors are often lawyers and Mark M says that he is one too.
I would not complain on him, but who knows someone else might get offended and make recourse under RPC.

(g) engage in conduct that the lawyer knows or reasonably should know is harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or socioeconomic status in conduct related to the practice of law. This paragraph does not limit the ability of a lawyer to accept, decline or withdraw from a representation in accordance with Rule 1.16….
So sorry for your butt-hurt. Nice try Perry Mason, but nothing that I do here is done in the course and scope of representing a client. Further, my state isn’t wacky enough to even consider adopting Model Rule 8.4(g), notwithstanding the fact that Model Rule 8.4(g) proscribes “conduct related to the practice of law.” As stated previously, I’m not here practicing law, merely poking sticks through the cages of the gullible rubes, dupes, klan wannabees, pocket-traitors and grifters on the make who ball-bag the day glo bozo.
this is to “darn it, I didn’t play that right” kurtzie
Smart Alec Mark M:
I admit that some states dont follow the newer version of 8.4 and mostly in the south. I consider that the more proper approach. To let a potty mouth like you expose himself as a rude and uncivil person not fit for polite society, and let it stay outside the scope of discipline.
But there are a line of 8.4 cases which applies broadly outside of actual practice to wider social activities. I don’t agree with this trend however; i think obnoxious and rude lawyers like you should not face discipline for your raunchy insults and homophobic slurs.
there is a Pennsylvania case for example where a lawyer leaving a hunting charity event called an animal rights protester hectoring him a “c#@^t” — it turned out she was a lawyer too. he was disciplined under 8.4.
in another jurisdiction, a lawyer called a telephone operator homosexual slur; he too was disciplined under 8.4. i have the case name, not going to bother sharing it with you.
in fact there are a whole string of cases like that all over the country. the issue you alluded to may protect you in texas however, for now. But have you considered that your uncivil insults actually put you in the same category of “rubes” whom you presume to degrade?
i can see you are aware of the issue at least. i also recently posted a link to a professor who has published some work about 8.2 cases punishing lawyers for criticizing judges, a different but related topic, if you care to have a well formed opinion to express here instead of just tossing about homophobic defamatory slanders.
I see Ford is closing five plants in NORTH America. That means Canada, USA and Mexico or is it the usual poorly written headline? Were in involved in those type of businesses and after two years of zoom up seen the American public vote for crash down I would no doubt hedge my bets or as it happens take my money off the table.
Not being careful enough you get what you ask for and it looks like back to unlit cellars unemployment of cancelled tax cuts, no more new tax cuts, no infrastructure rebuild, higher moocher fare more borrowing which means more inflation and more devaluation of the value of the dollar is returning UNLESS GOP leadership grows a spine.
As for me sitting about even I’m pulling my funds out again except for teardrop wipes
This time I’m going for a four year visa and hoping North America did not mean Mexico. where the plants are for world wide distribution are working full blast as are those of GMC, and Chrylser and the other foreign labels
This 40% of the cost of living in the USA in the USM is looking mighty fine.
Or is it just a propaganda ploy and part of the on going civil war between the socialist autocracy and the Constitutional Republic?
Wait and see what Mississippi does 53 would help a lot added to a veto proof road block OR they can choose the eventual answer to the question. Will the military up hold and honor it’s oath of office.
.
I love these polls. Who do they call, all millenials? If so, probably true. So 60% of the peeps they call are dissatisfied with the pres. Democrats run these call centers as the few I have gotten are skewed toward negative answers toward the pres. Like “how dissatisfied are you with the president?” These polls are another example of “fake news.”
Remember the press said the invasion was nothing more than a few migrants seeking asylum and that Trump was fabricating the invasion to score votes in the midterm? The invasion was orchestrated and paid for my Democrats in order to embarrass the president; but when they saw that it was backfiring on them, they tried to say Trump was imagining it. Now they are assaulting our border control officers, just as Trump warned.
When will the press stop lying? And the photo of the woman running away from tear gas with her children was all the left media showed, over and over. Yet they failed to show that the mob pushed women and children to the front then stormed the guards. Any women who allow their children to be part of the invasion is on them not our border control officers. Shame on them.
I think it would be better if he adopted the Teddy Roosevelt motto, walk softly and carry a big stick. We have reached a tipping point where too many people believe whatever comes across their media device and never take the time to trust but verify
Gallup strikes again but fails to deliver
The true answer.
This poll must have been done in Hawaii.
I can’t believe anyone supports him. On the other hand, maybe it’s just that Indont want to believe it.
“I don’t know how Nixon won. Nobody I know voted for him.”
Years later many of those who said they hated Reagan at the time all said they enthusiastically voted for him.
Holmes thinks proof is anecdotal where n=1 and Holmes is the one.
The Dems will nominate some dork like Hillary the 8th. That dork won’t go to Michigan to campaign. Trump will win again. Unless: Jeff Sessions runs against him in the primary. Then Jeff will be on board. The best thing the Dems could do is nominate someone who does not work in New York or speak a New Yorkie accent like Bernie. No Eliz Warren or Pelosi.
What is interesting is that Trump still maintains his core of 38 percent of supporters.
60% oppose you say. A core of 38% support the President you say. What is interesting is that 60%+ of Americans fail in civics literacy. So no, this survey is not a surprise.
So what does the entire body of ISI’s civic literacy research say about the current status of such enlightened citizenship?
The answer to the first question is both simple and disheartening, “not very.” Let us review some of the major findings from ISI’s previous reports:
– ISI has surveyed over 28,000 undergraduates from over 80 separate colleges, and the average score on our basic 60-question civic literacy exam was about a 54%, an “F.”
– At elite schools like Yale, Cornell, Princeton, Duke, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins, their freshmen did better than their seniors on the same test, what ISI dubs “negative learning.”
– Among adults, those with a college degree also failed on average ISI’s civic literacy test, scoring little higher than their peers with a high school diploma.
– College-educated adults were particularly ignorant of the Founding and Civil War eras, constitutional themes, and the essential features of a market economy.

Hilarious! And the Dems brag about the “educated” white voter!
This is one reason why America is going down the tubes. And to make it even better/worse, marijuana is now mostly legal! Yeah! That is going to make for a smarter America! Right! Nothing like smoking dope to make one smarter!
I know how Cassandra felt.

Squeeky,
It would be hilarious if it weren’t so consequential. While this is not uniquely a Democrat or Republican phenomenon, the effect does enable political parties to more easily divide voters into their respective camps. We have many problems with many causes, but political parties are not the solution. Civics literacy, civics engagement and self-reliance are. If political parties are unavoidable, find the one that promotes all three of those critical areas. More than promote, which party is taking action to improve those areas. If the party doesn’t do it, it is for a reason; to keep citizens ignorant, apathetic and dependent on them and their brand of big government.
legalization is not encouragement.however, it will likely lead to greater consumption but the phenomenon may be a net positive for society as more idiots are just stitting around stoned on the couch instead of actively doing more harmful things. plus, there will likely be a net decrease in social direct costs due to incarceration and prosecution of petty mj offenses
moreover, it’s increasingly untenable to maintain especially now that canada has gone whole hog on it.
alocohol is a deadly substance more toxic than marijuana and its addictive properties are worse. its abuse still leads to huge social impact, and yet its prohibition is even more harmful as the Volstead Act experience proved
for these simple reasons, i am an advocate not only of legalization of medical marijuana, but even its recreational use.
i take the same approach to sex work legalization too.
These positions are also those of the famed (infamous?) persecuted Republican political strategist Roger Stone, now under the heavy prosecutorial hand of Meuller. Contribute to his defense:

In fact, i heard him say recently that he knew the other “person of interest” in the wikileads matter, Randy Credico, from some legalization activities.
That’s roughly the same number of peope whose lives revolve around watching “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and who think Judge Judy sits on the Supreme Court.
Trumps job is not to get the most likes, it is to Preserve, Protect and Defend The Constitution, The United States and The American People.
Gallup also had Hilary winning by 99%.
Thank you, Dawn. You said it better than I could.
Why is Turley so concerned about a presidential election that is literally 2 years away?
Dawn said: “Gallup also had Hilary winning by 99%.”
Addressing that point:
“POLLING MATTERS”
NOVEMBER 23, 2016
“National Polling Accurately Nails Popular Vote”
BY FRANK NEWPORT
https://news.gallup.com/opinion/polling-matters/198155/national-polling-accurately-nails-popular-vote.aspx
This was a complex election since Hillary Clinton won the popular vote and Donald Trump won the Electoral College. In terms of forecasting, being “right” means two different things, depending on whether you were estimating the former or the latter.
Many people most likely assume that any poll at the national level is forecasting the Electoral College outcome, which is actually not the case. National horse race polls predict the national horse race — the popular vote. Given that in two of the last five elections the popular vote winner did not win the Electoral College (and the presidency), the distinction between national horse race polls and efforts to predict the Electoral College becomes more significant.
In terms of predicting the national popular vote outcome, the national polls did remarkably well in 2016. As was the case in 2012, the Democratic candidate’s popular vote margin is growing as vote counting continues in the weeks after Election Day. As of this writing, Clinton is ahead of Trump by 1.5 percentage points (48.1% to 46.6%), representing the fact that she has received over 2 million more votes than Trump. The margin could grow to two points. Clinton will, therefore, win the popular vote by a larger margin than was the case for Al Gore over George W. Bush in 2000, Richard Nixon over Hubert Humphrey in 1968 and John F. Kennedy over Richard Nixon in 1960. Clinton will have won by a greater popular vote margin than two other candidates who won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College (Gore and Grover Cleveland in 1888), as well as five other candidates who won on both measures (Nixon, Kennedy, Cleveland in 1884, James Garfield in 1880 and James Polk in 1844).
The average “gap” estimate on the national popular vote as calculated by RealClear Politics prior to the election was 3.3 points. This means the national popular vote estimate will end up being significantly closer to the actual result than was the case in 2012, and well within the margin of error. To come within less than two percentage points on the gap is a remarkable polling achievement and should be applauded.
But, given that the Electoral College determines the winner, state-level polls are what matters for those interested in projecting the outcome of a presidential election. And projecting the Electoral College outcome using polling essentially comes down to the accuracy of polls conducted in a handful of swing states. The outcome in the vast majority of other states is predetermined in all but wave elections (the last wave election was in 1984).
This creates a paradox since state polls in swing states, in my judgment, are less reliable than national polls. This occurs for several reasons. State polls typically have smaller sample sizes, have more variable quality depending on what organization conducts the poll, are estimating an outcome that can shift more readily because the population is smaller, are often conducted further away from Election Day and are more dependent on precision in estimates of turnout by geography.
This latter point is critical. The voting choice of the population of most states can vary dramatically between big city/urban areas and outstate areas. Examples in swing states include Milwaukee and Madison versus outstate Wisconsin, Detroit and Ann Arbor versus outstate Michigan, and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh versus outstate Pennsylvania. Relatively small variations in the proportion of a state poll sample from the big city versus outstate in a swing state can shift the overall horse race values enough to move the winning margin from one candidate to the other.
…
The whole enterprise would have been better if the forecasters used the state polls to focus more on developing scenarios under differing assumptions, rather than precise “probability” models. The “90% probability that Clinton will win” forecasts were much too certain, based on the evidence on which they were built.
To the degree that organizations want to predict the Electoral College, they are going to have to find ways to finance or encourage larger-sample, higher-quality state polls, rather than relying on the haphazard polls that happen to be conducted in the various states.
At the national level, however, the evidence clearly shows that the polls were, in fact, accurate — confirming that even with lower response rates and other challenges, national polls using landlines and cellphones are able to project to the national population. This confirms other evidence showing that national polling continues to be accurate in terms of estimating population parameters — including the percentage without health insurance and employment statistics.
I continue to believe there is too much emphasis on trying to predict the winner of an election, although I recognize that it is human nature to want to know which horse is ahead and is most likely to win while the race is still occurring. All of the immense time, money and effort put into forecasting before the election has little lasting impact or value on policy or the direction of the democracy once we know who won.

Instead of searching all over to prove your underlying desires so the results meet your fancy it would be better for you to understand the principles of selection that are so important in determining the right answer.
Allan makes another erroneous asssumption:
“Instead of searching all over…,” he says.
It took a few seconds, Allan. If you don’t find the comments to be of any interest then there’s a simple answer:
Don’t read them. And better yet, don’t respond.
“Allan makes another erroneous asssumption:
“Instead of searching all over…,” he says.
It took a few seconds, Allan.”
As I said you search all over for the answer you want (selection bias). It takes Google almost no time but it is searching “all over” for you. It seems my response was not erroneous at all.
As far as the articles go some are interesting even if superficially selected to “prove” what you want them to “prove”. The opposite can also be found so one ends up in a neutral position because logic is not part of your dialogue. In fact sometimes reading isn’t either. Sometimes your articles disprove what you think they are proving.
“Sometimes your articles disprove what you think they are proving.” — Allanonsense
Unlike you, Allan, I’m not here to “…prove” anything. And I’m certainly not here to engage in pointless, endless dialogue with people like you.
You need to get a life — beyond Jonathan Turley’s blog. Something about you stinks to high heaven.
“Unlike you, Allan, I’m not here to “…prove” anything. And I’m certainly not here to engage in pointless, endless dialogue with people like you.”
Despite what you say your postings tell us differently. If you weren’t here to prove something your postings wouldn’t have such obvious selection bias. If you weren’t here to have “endless dialogue with people…” you wouldn’t respond to them. Your postings tell alot about you and your thinking process. What you leave out of your postings tells alot as well. I look at you as a laboratory rat and watch you go for the cheese.
“I look at you as a laboratory rat…” – Allanucklehead
Right back atcha, Allaninny.
That is an example of your lack of originality Anonymous.
The difference between the two of us is I have dealt with a lot of laboratory rats. More cheese Anonymous?
“I have dealt with a lot of…rats,” says Allan.
Of course you have. Because you are one, Allan.
Anonymous, you don’t even have the ability to distinguish yourself from the pack while you run to get the cheese before any of them do.
i suppose you think Allan should buzz off so you can say what you want unchallenged, yes?
Kurtz, Anonymous is a giant void where no man has gone before and simplistic Google searches pass through an inpenatrable barrier untouched by human thought.
Nope.
To Mr. Kurtz @ 1:17 pm
The Trump administration seems to be roughly similar and equal to any other Republican administration this country has had, in spite of Mr Trump’s personal mental dysfunction. Decent people want nothing to do with the threats, bribes, and parasitic lifestyle of US politicians.
It could improve dramatically if elected officials were as diverse as the US population is overall. Diversity makes a population thrive. Uniformity kills progress.
“Diversity makes a population thrive. ”
Can you elaborate??? Because a “melting pot” is hardly diversity. A Heinz 57 Cur is hardly diverse. They are both blends, where there is an meshing out of diversity into one thing.
OTOH, I guess some guy who has his weenie whacked off, so he can pretend to be a girl, and get straight CIS gendered men to want him sexually is diverse, but I fail to see how it makes a population thrive. In fact, to the degree that it is successful, sperm is diverted from a place where babies can be made into a place that is a dead end.
Sooo, maybe I just don’t understand. So explain it me, OK?

Squeaky, I think the type of diversity Samantha is looking for is to increase the stupidity index in Washington. It is already pretty stupid but she wants more. I guess people want legislators to look more like themselves.
“However, it is hard to see how Trump can prevail in 2020 with such an increasingly alienated and hostile majority.”? Easy, Have the Demos put a less popular candidate out there, like Hillary. The way the Demos are acting, it would not surprise me if they fumble the 2020 election. As dumb as the Repos look and act with Trump, the Demos seem to be doing worse.
You left out the real base and it’s not the still being rebuilt repos but the unaffiliated independent self governing citizens who took the largest share of the vote in 2016. Neither of the parties on their own made it anywhere near 50% plus one.
Add that in your calculations and the real possibility of the ICD’s forming their own party and stripping power from the Socialists .whatever name they choose.
The real citizens in the GOP and the independent anti Socialist Constitutional Centrists which include the majority (80%) of the active military’s combat arms are never factored into these polls so the myth of only two parties and a nation of 70% non participants continues to flourish.
That would seem apparent judging from the midterm election where the great jobs picture and economy made zero difference to the blind electorate nor did the improvement among our military & VA treatment seem to make a difference among voters who increasingly do not seem to care about out men in uniform, especially among Democrats.
Dems care about men and women in uniform. They particularly like women dolled up in a Playboy uniform.
LMAO the first line got me going as the exact opposite is the exact truth bu tthe allusion to porn over good citizenship saved the day.
hey what’s wrong with that? yum
