Biden Campaign Objects To New York Times Publishing An Opinion About The Hunter Biden Controversy

I recently wrote about the effort of the Biden campaign to get networks to bar Trump allies from the air who wanted to talk about the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s business dealings in the Ukraine. Now, Kate Bedingfield, the deputy manager of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, has denounced the New York Times for publishing an opinion editorial by author Peter Schweizer on the matter. The hubris of the Biden campaign to demand that the media silence its critics would be laughable if it were not for the failure of many outlets to cover the story. I have previously written that, while I do not see the evidence that Biden sought to fire the Ukrainian prosecutor to protect his son, the Hunter Biden dealings seem a flagrant example of profiteering on his father’s work as the lead official on Ukraine as vice president.

Bedingfield wrote to Dean Baquet to chastize the paper for “giving top billing” to “Clinton Cash” author Peter Schweizer in an op-ed titled, “What Hunter Biden Did Was Legal – That’s the Problem.” The Biden campaign expects media to fall into line and just dismiss the story as a “conspiracy theory.” The problem is that it is not.

As I have previously discussed, Hunter was asked to be a director of a Ukrainian natural gas company, Burisma Holdings, owned by a government minister and close associate of bloodsoaked former president and Russian stooge Viktor Yanukovych. Biden later forced the government to fire the Ukrainian chief prosecutor fired after he threatened to investigate Burisma Holdings. Biden bragged that he held up more than $1 billion in loan guarantees and gave the Ukrainians just hours to fire the prosecutor.

There are two concerns with Hunter Biden. One is the concern of whether Joe Biden knew that his actions may benefit his son. I am willing to believe that Biden was not aware of the potential investigation of his son’s company in the Ukraine. Yet, there is the other question of whether the Biden family cashed in on Biden’s positions in these convenient and ample contracts. Children and spouses of politicians are often given positions and contracts to influence them. These payments are more difficult to track and to address under anti-corruption laws. Now, there is the incredible suggestion that Hunter Biden has never (even to this day) discussed his business dealings with his father. Never.

Hunter has directly contradicted his father and said that he did discuss the Ukraine deal with him.

What has long been difficult for many of us to square is how China and the Ukraine searched the world over for the best possible person to handle almost $2 billion and they just happened to come up with the son of the Vice President of the United States, a world leader who happened to be coming to their countries with massive trade and aid plans. Hunter Biden was that much of an intellectual and finance genius from Asia to Europe and beyond?

None of this is to state conclusively that Hunter Biden engaged in an effort of influence peddling or self-dealing. However, it is clearly worthy of scrutiny by the media. The most disturbing aspect of this story is that the Biden campaign expects media to ignore such a legitimate story to protect it from bad press, including opinion editorials. That would be presumptuous except for the fact that some networks have done precisely what the Biden campaign is asking for in this letter.

What does this say about the view of the free press by the Biden campaign? It is the Biden version of the “fake news” mantra and it is no more acceptable when coming from the left rather than the right.

          Other language that Americans understand is that of the Constitution which provides the absolute right to private property, provides Congress the power to tax only for “…general Welfare…,” omitting and, thereby, deliberately excluding any power to tax for individual welfare, and enumerates the power to regulate only “…money…” and “…commerce among the several States,…” all of which make the entire American welfare state unconstitutional including, by not limited to, affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, rent control, social services, forced busing, minimum wage, utility subsidies, WIC, TANF, HAMP, HARP, Dept.’s of Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc.

          Americans do not need even infinitesimal “interpretation” by “interpreters” in the judicial branch.

    Now that the New York Times has published Peter Schweizer’s op-ed criticizing the Bidens’ milking the Ukraine’s Burisma Holdings for influence and threatening to withhold US aid unless the guy investigating them was fired, they can keep on not covering this story in their actual news reportage.

    Apparently, publishing Schweizer’s investigative journalism got the NYT the stink-eye at those famous “exclusive” meetings between Obama and their editorial board. I notice they no longer have the same executive editor whose investigative journalists earned the NYT eight Pulitzer Prizes.

        A cult leader is one with whom his followers can find no fault, and engage in unreasoning devotion. Many of us have found fault with Trump when the occasion arises. He is, after all, not Jesus Christ.

        An example of a religion rising to cult status is environmentalism. Rather than be a healthy desire to improve our planet, we see the rise of eco anxiety. Unhealthy obsession and self hatred. Expensive laws that cause harm instead of benefit. An example would be Californias Air Resource Board (CARB), an unelected body, declaring that certain heavy vehicles pre-2010 may no longer be registered in the state of CA. Business owners suddenly could not use their vehicles. Many sold them out of state, therefore they are still on the road, and still emitting. Since air does not abide by state boundaries, there have been no improvement in the atmosphere, but there was a significant hit to small business owners, and it increased the cost of goods and services. When presented with evidence that the policy caused harm, and no good, the response is generally, well we must do something. The irrational cult of Climate Change, thrashing around, making a mess.

        I have previously given a very long list of some of the reasons not to vote for Democrats. Hardly an unreasoning position.

        However, dismissing anyone who supports Trump for any reason a cultist dismisses their argument, without having to address it on its merits.

That the children of influential people capitalize on the power and influence of their parents is not news.

    As the title to the New York Times Opinion piece states, the Hunter Biden controversy does not include illegal behavior. The Biden campaign simply wants the press to stop printing lies that have already been debunked. So far, there is no there, there: we don’t know if Hunter Biden sought advice from his father before taking the Burisma position. He certainly was under no obligation to do so. Even if Hunter did seek Joe’s advice prior to signing on, Joe had no legal duty or authority – no real means at all – to prohibit his son from taking an extremely lucrative position.

    It has been widely established that the firing of corrupt Ukranian Prosecutor Shokin was desired by the EU, UK, the IMF, and a chorus of GOP players including George W. Bush and a cadre of Republican Congressmen. There is no connection of a Burisma investigation to this firing, only “Big Lie” innuendo that helps Trump and hurts Biden. In fact, if an effective prosecutor was hired to succeed Shokin, there might have been a new investigation into Burisma and Hunter Biden, contradicting Trump’s contradictory cya claim.

    Jonathan Turley knows that even repeating the lie while refuting it, as he has done in this blog post, reinforces the lie in the minds of the general public who, at best, skim the news for evidence that cements their confirmation bias. The Biden campaign is not trying to stifle the press, just the defamation.

  15. When defending Joe, the media insists that Burisma was notoriously corrupt. Does this not put Hunter in the position of serving a corrupt master? No, in a curious twist of doublethink, the media, when defending Hunter, solemnly insists that no wrongdoing on the part of Burisma can be found.

    There are times when the personal interest of a politician coincides with the public interest. The public interest is served by getting to the bottom of what the Bidens were up to in Ukraine.
