President Donald Trump is being widely and legitimately denounced today for a highly offensive image that retweeted of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in Muslim garb, including a statement that Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt that the image is “repulsive anti-Muslim bigotry.” I have repeatedly objected to outrageous and unpresidential tweets by President Trump and I believe it is important for all of us to object to this type of offensive imagery and commentary. It has no place in our politics and certainly no place in presidential communications.
The Monday morning by Twitter user @D0wn_Under was shared by Trump with his 71 million followers with hours with the caption: “The corrupted Dems trying their best to come to the Ayatollah’s rescue.”

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham caused a secondary flare up when she defended the President by accusing the Democrats of “almost taking the side of terrorists.” That is grossly unfair to the Democrats and magnifies the concerns over the use of such images and insults in addressing your political opponents.
There has to be some modicum of decency and decorum in our politic debates that starts with the President. While some may find this image comical, it is highly insulting, highly inflammatory and highly unfair. It appeals to the lowest common denominator in our politics and fuels racial and religious divisions. We have a right to expect more from the White House.

That’s just what they did. The characterization is not unfair.
Well, they hate the country. The only difference between their ideology and the Islamists is they have little use for 72 female virgins and wouldn’t mess up their profile with that cumbersome and bulky suicide vest..
Iranian efforts to push propaganda to other countries. Might explain some of the information posted in the comments section.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cyber-iran-specialreport/special-report-how-iran-spreads-disinformation-around-the-world-idUSKCN1NZ1FT
Trump said he did it in response to Pelosi saying today that the protesters today are not on the streets protesting against being lied too by the Iranian government’ over the downed airplane. She said they protested other things. ..
A more effective satire would have put Pelosi and Schumer into the garb of the Iranian Guidance Patrol, or religious police. Or put them in the office of Iranian propaganda. Persian men don’t walk around dressed like that, and women were a roosari and a trench coat or a chador (held together with their teeth when their hands are full), not a niqab or qubeisya. Not all the veils are the same. Did you see all those women protestors with their roosaris pushed as far back as possible on their heads?
Too many have rallied behind Soleimani. Some have even called him a hero of Iran. They have not referred to him as a terrorist, but rather just a military leader.
That’s fair game for satire.
My problem isn’t that the image satirizes their position on the Soleimani killing. Rather, it lumps them all in with the Persian people, and the creator perhaps thinks that all veils are the same. After that plane was shot down, the Iranian people are NOT all on the same page with the regime.
There’s nothing wrong with satire, but this was a clumsy effort. It also was not effective.
As for anyone who thinks that the veil in the Tweet was unforgivable, think about this. What if a public official aided and abetted the Catholic pedophile priest cover up. If someone made a cartoon with that official wearing vestments or a cardinal’s scarlet, in reference to his working for the Church, I hardly think the general public would bat an eye.
Hijab frequently figures in satirical cartoons, such as when Progressives have solidarity movements with the veil, ignoring that women are punished if they refuse to wear it in other countries.
Perhaps Christians have become immune to their own iconography being used for criticism, mockery, and even fashion statements. There are nun and priest costumes, Catholic school girl costumes, pope costumes, it shows up on fashion runways, even lingerie shows. One of my favorite westerns, Two Mules for Sister Sarah featured a prostitute who pretended to be a nun. The Flying Nuns.
We see religious garb used in satire for another religion and think, so what? Aren’t we supposed to be sanguine about it ourselves?
It was a satirical point about Schumer and Pelosi siding with Iran over America.
Someone mentioned on the news that it would be a nice gesture to the Iranian protestors for Trump to lift the travel ban. I don’t know the state of affairs of Iranian threats, but if possible, I would like the avenue of rescue to be open to some of the dissidents who want freedom.
Christians are very mild in the offense the take to various forms of insult.
I leave it to the reader to consider if this is wise or not

Of course Hollywood made a scene with “nuns” erotic dancing. They don’t do this to Muslims because they know their lives would be in danger. Making such films and television series is proof that at some level, they acknowledge that Christians are not generally dangerous. That they can say whatever they want, do whatever they want, film a scene where a nun strips under the cross to music, and they will be confident that all Christians will do is complain about it.
These are the same people who claim criticizing the Muslim faith for anything, or the religious driven terrorism, is Islamophobia. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
Dave Chapelle said it best
“The First Amendment is first for a reason. Second Amendment is just in case the First one doesn’t work out.”
Hold on there, Baba Looey!
Dave Chapelle said that feminazis want to have their cake and eat it too.
Feminazis may kill their babies but men shall not miss an alimony/child support payment.
Wake up, you gullible American men. The American fertility rate is in a “death spiral.” The population is being imported. In 100 years, there won’t be an American left in America. Women don’t need to vote, women need to have babies…lots and lots of babies; sufficient to defend and grow the nation. The 19th Dumbmendment was a death sentence for America. America is vanishing before our very eyes.
Repeal unconstitutional “Affirmative Action Privilege.”
Repeal the Constitution-“injuring” 19th Dumbmendment.
Repatriate the off-shored American economy, capital and jobs for men.

” And if there are amendments desired, of such a nature as will not injure the constitution, and they can be ingrafted so as to give satisfaction to the doubting part of our fellow citizens; the friends of the federal government will evince that spirit of deference and concession for which they have hitherto been distinguished.”
– James Madison, Proposed Amendments to the Constitution, June 8, 1789
Remember the photo of Obama in Somali garb leaked to the media by the Hillary camp in 2008.
If Muslims are revered and respected, then why freak-out at this homage to them? Shouldn’t this be considered flattery?
If Nancy and Chuck were dressed as Wonder Woman and Superman, the Dems would be thumbs-upping.
Highly offensive???
I’m gonna take a wild guess that Professor Turley never encounterd a DI in Boot Camp.
Are you saying that is where trump learned jis bad manners?
That said, Ya gotta admit that picture is hilarious.
He’s been a registered student or a faculty member for all but 3 of the last 40 years. It’s a reasonable wager two of the remaining three years were spent as a clerk to an appellate judge.
If the shoe fits…
…one more backbencher weights in. He was a butcher who got his just deserts.
At work we all loved it so much so that we started looking for websites carrying it
Spread it far and wide
Its not like he did what the Iranian dictators (code for Heroes to Democrats) did to Iranian protestors: shooting them till they spilled blood
Pelosi and Schumer arent worth the ammo
And look how the libs are losing their minds about it too!
bwwahahahahaha
Nuke Em!

Trump Retweets Photoshopped Image of Nancy Pelosi in a Hijab Because a Muslim Is Obviously More Dangerous Than a Degenerate Wannabe Dictatorhttps://www.theroot.com/trump-retweet…
I rarely disagree with the good professor, but I must admit, I have not seen commensurate outcry from him over the “outrageous and unpresidential[-like]” rhetoric of the Democratic presidential candidates, in their references to the president. While I don’t always agree with Trump, I actually appreciate his open, transparent personality over the closed-door, phony, and two-faced comments by prior presidents, who didn’t need to worry about the “leaks” and moles who would report their every off-color or offensive words…
There has to be some modicum of decency and decorum in our politic debates that starts with the President.
I’m afraid that when you set your hair on fire every time the president makes a joke that wouldn’t go down well in a faculty lounge, you trivialize the whole subject.
What the hell, can’t y’all take a joke, if not leave one.
Dear Professor, the clowns on the left set the bar.
Oh hush Jonny. If this has no place in our country or our presidency, how about remembering that when you testify before Congress. Duh
Expect more from Trump. That ship has sailed. He is unfit to lead our country.
MN:
And yet he’s order of magnitudes better than any Dim! Deal with it for 5 more years!
He is unfit to lead our country.
And you’re unfit to live in it.
“Let the hate flow through you”
Good catch. He is the one always quoting a Catholic priest but look how he spews venom.
Psych issues at play
Which priest did I quote, diane?
TIA:
He/She’s got you confused. He/she is confused. Can’t even recognize how that criticism of you utterly fails by obvious lack of conviction.
He selectively quotes Fr Paul Shaughnessy SJ when it suits his fancy

On odd occasions I do. How that is relevant, you could never tell me.
Considering the lamentations over the death of a professional killer at the airport in Baghdad, I would think they would self-associate with the garb in solidarity of terrorists everywhere. Those with a clue know the score and are laughing, those who are clueless are offended. Take a hint.
Let’s not forget about President Barf’s explicitly stolen valor at one of his cult rallies, where he barfed the claim that he was down at Ground Zero helping out. What a hero he was — truly — because he certainly had no time to brag on TV about the height of his building.
The D-List cameo actor is an internet-troll who’s obsessed with watching his own orange face on State TV (sorry, it’s the light-bulbs, not his face); and he’s clearly the greatest, most tremendously tremendous snowflake in American history: dishing it out while whining constantly in return.
If “presidential harassment” is oh so terrible, then isn’t minority-leader and speaker harassment equally awful? Trump should get the same level of respect that he showed to the preceding president.
Lighten up, Professor. It is hilarious! Certainly a “nothingburger” after what the democrats have done to Trump!
Well they align perfectly in views and temperament with their Persian overlords: They all mourn Soleimani, they all tell us the protesters in Tehran hate us not their government and they all lie about everything else – no bulldozers in the debris field, Trump colluded, blah, blah. I think it’s apt.
Oh and they all hate Trump, cause you know “players gonna play” and “fakers gonna fake”:
Our beloved leader is just a kiddish prankster. (But he certainly knows what is best for all of us…being the “most brilliant.”) JT, you shouldn’t be so serious all the time. Just chuckle along with our glorious chucklehead leader.
Oh hush. You didn’t vote for him so don’t complain.
