MSNBC Host Denounces Sanders Supporters As “Privileged White Voters” For Not Supporting Biden

We have been discussing the open hostility that Sen. Bernie Sanders has faced on MSNBC and CNN during both his runs for the presidency in 2016 and 2020.  In one of the last large rallies of Sanders in Michigan (and his campaign) I spoke with Sanders supporters who were adamantly opposed to Joe Biden (here and here and here).  For them, it is no accident that, once again, the only option for the general election is the most establishment figure in the race.  They joined Sanders (some for their first campaign) because of his agenda and in opposition to the establishment policies that they see controlling the Democratic National Committee and Biden.  Now, MSNBC host Joy Reid has denounced those Sanders’ supporters as “privileged white voters” because they refuse to support Biden.

Reid’s ire was drawn by statements by commentator Kyle Kulinski who told critics that they could “blame” him if President Trump defeats Biden in November: “As a left-winger who will not vote for Biden I want you to know I’m 100% okay with you blaming me if Trump wins a second term. I mean it. Blame me. Then get to thinking real hard how you’re gonna get me to support your candidate the next time! Maybe even ask me, I’ll tell you! We shouldn’t be defensive about this. If they’re blaming us for Trump that’s an admission that they need us to win. If they need us to win then they need to make concessions. Own it!”

“What this kind of thing says to me is that these are not ‘left-wing’ voters. They are privileged white voters who demand to be bowed down to, no different than Trump’s voters want those who are not white and Christian to take the knee for them like in the ‘good old days.’ These are voters whose primary concern is that everyone else kneel. That’s it. Kneel. Or they threaten the rest of us with the endless torment of Trumpism. Caged children. Viral death. Poverty. Want. Voter Suppression. Muslim bans. Of course none of this harms or impacts them.”

  1. Why is it that dems never seem to have anything constructive to say about anyone?

    1. Mesa……why don’t they? Because it’s the truly Christian thing to do, and true Christianity is to liberals what garlic is to vampires.

    2. MENSA,

Excuse me sir. ..Sir..? Can you just step over here a moment. Our blog is under siege by an army of sock puppets and I just want to shine a flashlight in your face to see who you really are.

      1. Over here, boys, the nut job that escaped from the mental ward is harassing other people. You should be careful with him as he as rabid as a cornered raccoon

  2. Hey Dems, we are laughing at you. You might as well book your therapist for another four years.

  3. Meanwhile, back in the real world that JT and his Trumpster followers are trying so hard to avoid:

“The Treasury Department has ordered President Trump’s name be printed on stimulus checks the Internal Revenue Service is rushing to send to tens of millions of Americans, a process that could slow their delivery by a few days, senior IRS officials said.

The unprecedented decision, finalized late Monday, means that when recipients open the $1,200 paper checks the IRS is scheduled to begin sending to 70 million Americans in coming days, “President Donald J. Trump” will appear on the left side of the payment.

It will be the first time a president’s name appears on an IRS disbursement, whether a routine refund or one of the handful of checks the government has issued to taxpayers in recent decades either to stimulate a down economy or share the dividends of a strong one….”

    Here’s Bernie endorsing Trum…. I mean Biden:

    1. Then our grandstanding action adverse weak President sought to divert blame by holding up funding for the WHO in the middle of a worldwide pandemic for – get ready – sucking up to China early in the crisis while soft peddling it’s threat. You know, like he did.

“President Trump announced Tuesday that he will suspend payments to the World Health Organization in response to the United Nations agency’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, as the organization is in the midst of combating a global outbreak that has killed thousands and crippled world economies….”

But hey!! What did Joy Reid say???

      Here’s Bernie endorsing Trum…….. I mean Biden.

      F…… pygmies!

      1. “President Trump announced Tuesday that he will suspend payments to the World Health Organization in response to the United Nations agency’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, as the organization is in the midst of combating a global outbreak that has killed thousands and crippled world economies….”

        You’re doing a heck of a job B̶r̶o̶w̶n̶i̶e̶ … er …Teddy!

      2. You quote the Washington Post and expect to be taken seriously??

So how’s that “Trump lives inside my head rent free” thing working out for you??

    2. “It will be the first time a president’s name appears on an IRS disbursement”

If this upsets you…and apparently it does…I encourage you to tear up the check.

It’s a great way to demonstrate your disapproval.

          1. You’re losing it and it’s only April. This is wonderful. After anger comes acceptance. Acceptance that the problem is you…wash your soul.

    3. I think that signature is going to end up blowing up in Trump’s face. Just sort of a reminder he failed in pandemic response and then didn’t provide enough support to deal with it.

        1. “I think this is going to blow up in the Fake New’s face.”

Love this sentence. Apostrophe makes a big difference, doesn’t it?

      1. Sure it will. Just like Trump was never, ever going to win the Presidency…”It’s impossible!”

Biden is the perfect pick for the Dems. He really does represent everything they stand for.

        1. Quite a summary. He was an unremarkable suburban associate for four years, then spent the next 44 years as a federal employee. He’s never held an executive position in the public or private sector. He’s perfectly shameless; even being caught appropriating Neil Kinnock’s family history injured him hardly at all. His family is crooked. His son and his brother have one utility: a talent for exploiting connections for rent-seeking purposes. Two of his three children have a history with street drugs (a ratio Edward Kennedy could not match) and one of them is a complete stew of addictions. His son is such a Loki-figure that he started banging his brother’s widow, allowing his father and step-mother to issue a statement that was the reductio ad absurdam of nonjudgmentalism. He was always a mediocrity intellectually, now enhanced by senescence. Democratic voters deserve him.

          1. DSS, from your description, which is generous at best, he seems to be the perfect candidate for the group of non-thinkers that daily appear on this blog.

          2. Absurd, please don’t compare the clever Loki Laufeyson to that wretch Hunter Biden. Hunter is not significant enough to merit any such infamous comparison.

    4. “Meanwhile, back in the real world”

i.e. I don’t want to address this article and Reid’s inane comments, so I’ll pivot to something else.

      1. That’s what they told him to do in the morning’s talking points.

    5. Anon thinks that Trump will be hand signing each and every check. That is why he so easily believes a story that can so easily be torn apart.

The signature will be done by the machine and there is no time difference no matter who signs the check.

  4. Let me get this straight: The billionaire in the Whitehouse’s supporters are red neck, uneducated, Bible thumpers who love their guns more than life itself and the socialist independent candidate who has never worked a day’s work at a regular job in his life has a majority of supporters who are “white priviledged”?

      1. I looking for news that matters, not grievance nursing about 3rd tier political commentators.

Here’s some – The Treasury is holding up disbursing checks to Americans so Trump can get his name on them.

In the middle of a worldwide pandemic Trump is holding up funding for the WHO for doing what he did – suck up to China and soft peddle the threat.

And oh yeah, speaking of Bernie, did you hear he endorsed Trum….. oh wait! He endorsed Biden!

        https://wapo.st/3ciwYp1

        1. You’re looking for “news that matters” while fixating on a column that no one “GAF” about??

          Funny.

          1. I’m not looking for news. I do that before I come to this unserious circle j.

            I’m publishing it here.

            1. Oh. Okay.

“I looking for news that matters”, but “I’m not looking for news”.

Things are changing by the minute.

  5. I’ve had this conversation with the fairly sizable packs of Bernie bros in my circumference. The “I’m willing to take the pipe to the head of Trump one more time if the DNC screws Bernie again” schtick. I mean, Bernie lost twice. Straight up.

Even pointed out that as a white male these dudes wasn’t actually taking the pipe to the head since they’d not be in need of an abortion, that they didn’t live inner city enough to be subjected to Trump’s war on environmental restraints at least in the immediate, that Trump’s war on public school education wouldn’t affect them directly, etc.

Just as an aside, Bernie is making an effort to blunt this wing of his supporters and to lead them into supporting Biden because he and Joe are actually buds. Also that he learned from his anti HRC jihad that he probably helped Trump get elected and wasn’t able to further his own agenda to the degree he could’ve.

And the thing that’s disturbed me so much about the hardest core of Bernie bros was their white privilege and how it was so hidden from themselves. I mean, Trumpers are fairly outright about their white supremacy issues, Trump has given them permission to be loud and proud. He’s stepped it up from the being comfortable with your prejudice Reagan years, to the outwardly justifying that prejudice in the Bush jr. years to now spiking the football of racism and misogyny and eltitism during the time of Trumpism.

Much of Bernie’s emotionalism echoes Trumpism in its demand for things entirely on its own terms, the ‘my way or the highway’ of it. So I get what Joy was leaning in to here. But by the same token, I understand the push back she’s getting…

Still, after the daily verbal train wrecks that occur on Fox News, I find it interesting you choose to focus on this in isolation, Jon. At least put it in context with a little venture into the freak show commentary provided over on Foxy.

    1. JT is either an idiot or in the tank for Trump with this worthless drivel. I suppose that’s the same thing.

Here’s Bernie endorsing Trum…… Oh no, I mean Biden!

      https://wapo.st/3ciwYp1

      1. He shows a lot of signs of being a paid influencer for the right, complete with disclaimers of how he’s sensitive to the progressive and environmental concerns.

Hope he’s not in the tank, but the hints are there for sure.

        1. paid influencer? Turley? Come on, you guys need to keep a grip on the paranoia.
this is what i call a ‘conspiracy hypothesis”

I’ll point out a key flaw in this hypothesis, although I don’t think you take it seriously

          a) who is “the right”?

          b) who is the paymaster of its “paid influencers?’

as far as I can tell, the Kroch brothers are the only ones handing out “pay” to “influencers” — but let me know if there are any others. name some names and sources which make it factual. perhaps there are and Im just ignorant of their existence.

but the Kroches are not in the slightest bit “right” because their basket of issues has almost entirely concerned itself with advocating some sort of laissez faire capitalism. Capitalism is not integral to any genuine “right” in a political theory sense. Private property and free enterprise are yes; but capitalism in the sense of high finance and global trade, have generally been enemies of “the right” at least in the past 100 years. Although for a time in the 80s and 90s there was a sort of lame coalition between certain money men like them and lesser Republicans, which was given some trappings of ideology by Ayn Rand and Friedman and the like, but which by 2016 Trump blasted that to smithereens in his campaign advocating things the Kroches hate, like tariffs. but they hate Trump, its clear.

Now, to be sure, there are other big money men who are licking their chops with gleeful support for Trump now, as his man Mnuchin rains down the helicopter Federal Reserve money on them in these various bailouts, but that’s a more recent episode than the emergence of Trump which was genuinely despised by the Kroches.

anyhow Turley is a professor that’s his baseline “pay” if anything and maybe some small tv money, not shekels from some nonexistent “right” wing paymasters.

The real paymasters for influencers, if there are some, are global capitalists financiers like George Soros, who has seeded NGOs and advocacy groups with over a billion dollars in recent memory. now that’s a lot taller money than any supposed “right” wing anything.

right left as a dichotomy arose out of the French revolution and it never has made much sense in America which began its history strictly on the left of that equation, as a liberal, secular democracy. right in that older sense mean guys like Metternich, who were protectors of the failing aristocratic and clerical structures of pre-Revolutionary middle Europe.

“right” in america, if it has meant anything, has mean something like wanting a slower pace of change, and an aversion to the class conflict themes of communism. But not socialism per se, no matter how much it is mentioned as a bogeyman. you will not find many socalled Right wingers today who want to end manifestations of socialism such as “social security” however. So perhaps the “right” in America is pretty much just what soviets used to call “rightward deviationists” and not much more than that.

That is not to say that a contemporary “right” could not emerge in America in a similar sense to the “conservative revolution” emerged among the pre-nazi german era — refering here to Spengler, Junger, and Schmitt; and perhaps it has at least in an “economic nationalist” form — but we will see about how things shake out from here.

      2. @BTB

Just go ahead and call JT a “nazi”. I know you want to. A “nazi” (or racist) is anyone who disagrees with a liberal.

        antonio

        1. That’s the late, former MSNBC host. The one who was barred from covering Bernie’s announcement that he was joining the 2016 race by the President of MSNBC. Lefties who will vote against Biden remember him and what he said about MSNBC.

  6. Joy Reid, is a RACIST & AND A HATER OF TRUMP! She’s not very smart calling Bernie’s followers ‘white privileged’, p*ssing them off and go vote for Trump instead of Biden”

  7. Joy is not a racist.

She only hates white people who don’t agree with her.

  8. Hard to imagine a more irrelevant person to the national dialogue that Joy “I really do like queers just not Charlie Crist who I think is one” Reid who like so many other charlatans claimed her Twitter account was hacked. Banish her to CNN where nobody watches.

  9. Obnoxious racial poseurs will continue striking attitudes until it doesn’t get them anything. One can hasten that day by ignoring them. (The people who can really hasten that day are the ones who can decline to renew their contracts).

  10. Joy Reid is an affirmative action moron and she is on TV precisely for the purpose of spewing out idiocies to support the DNC.

I think FOXNews should fire her immediately!

    Squeeky Fromm
    Girl Reporter

  11. JOY REID is a nut case. But, MSNBC seem to have a lot of Nuts and Fools working for them. They have severe Trump Hatred syndrome.

Sanders supporters were robbed again and again by the Dem’s and by Sanders himself, for in the end he was not a real fighter but seems to profit from his position.

Some Sanders supporters will not vote, some will vote for Biden and some will vote for Trump as an anti voter backlash to the DEM Party leadership which is corrupt

    1. “JOY REID is a nut case. But, MSNBC seem to have a lot of Nuts ”

      MSNBC represents the squirrel community.

  12. It would seem that some people can’t stop. I assume Joy wasn’t getting enough attention. So much like Trump, insult people and hope it’s outrageous enough to get coverage. Talk about privilege!

  13. It’s amazing how stupid and bigoted Joy Reid is. I’m a Hispanic American and I will vote for Donald Trump. His economic plan has taken more people out of poverty than anything Obama or Bush ever did. He stopped travel from China when all the leftist sleaze balls called him racist and xenophobic. The Democrat Party is finished in this country. They’re so far to the left, they should move to Venezuela. Joy Reid is a bigoted idiot and a joke who will be forgotten five minutes after she stops polluting the airwaves.

    1. Antonio, you’re stuck in the pre-virus age. With this pandemic, Trump has landed more people in poverty than any president since Herbert Hoover.

      1. Seth, Trump did not cause the virus to emerge from nature.

for that matter Hoover did not precipitate all the complex causes that lead to the Depression either.

reckless trolling remarks earn animosity. You’re as much a part of keeping this space mired in partisan rancor as your rivals.

but for people who only want to see their perceived champion win in November, you will troll away until then, I’m sure. for you guys this is sort of like football. you have a team you like and the game as it unfolds does not matter too much, just doing your own little part as the “twelfth man” to help secure a win in the super bowl.

        1. Kurtz, whatever! Millions are now in poverty. So the pre-virus stats no longer matter.

          1. it matters that you presume trump is single handedly responsible for the virus and hence the unemployment which is actually a very complex phenomenon.

i get tired of the glib simple minded American approach to our political economy which in every presidential cycle attributes all random chance, all human enterprise and work, and all human failings, to one man

            1. “i get tired of the glib simple minded … approach…”

Kurtz, good to see a lack of agreement with the “glib simple minded” approach. 🙂

          2. Paint Chips is a cheer leader for a failure of the economy. He loves the destruction the virus has brought to the American people but the American people aren’t as stupid as Paint Chips assumes. I have confidence our economy will gradually return and will remain the strongest economy in the world, Donald Trump will win in 2020 and that Paint Chips will continue to be a hater looking for death and destruction.

      2. Your logic is faulty and that is why your arguments carry no weight. Once again we hear ebulience from you over the fact that a virus has hit America killing people while destroying families. To you the virus is the best thing to happen since sliced bread because you believe it will bring in socialism.

Another recent post celebrating the Coronavirus from you:

“Diaper Man you’re stuck in the pre-virus age. All that crap about the virtues of low taxes and small government is destined for history’s ash heap at this point.

By the time this crisis is past us, everyone under 60 will see the virtues of socialism. A Grest Depression awaits us and it will require a ‘We’re all in this together’ way of thinking.”

This is quite similar to what Stalin and Lenin told the people. Death and destruction of families to promote socialism brought them a lot of happiness as well. People like you were sent to Siberia or killed.

  14. I am privileged freckled. I won’t vote for a Yorkie who speaks turdy turd and a turd.
