In the Trump Administration, it seems that each day brings a new NDA. From Stormy Daniels to Michael Cohen to John Bolton, NDA litigation has become the signature litigation issue of the Trump presidency. Now, President Donald Trump has invoked a NDA in response to a new tell-all book by his niece Mary Trump.
Mary Trump’s book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man is expected to be released soon. The book reportedly will also confirm that she was a source for the The New York Times on Trump’s financial dealings.
The disclosures allegedly run afoul of a nondisclosure agreement, according to President Trump. He told Axios “She’s not allowed to write a book. You know, when we settled with her and her brother, who I do have a good relationship with — she’s got a brother, Fred, who I do have a good relationship with, but when we settled, she has a total … signed a nondisclosure.”
The NDA was reportedly the result of a settlement in 2001. Mary Trump was at loggerheads with President Trump after the 1981 death of her father and President Trump’s brother, Fred. Trump Jr. She and her brother Fred Trump III claimed that President Trump and his siblings had undue influence over their grandfather and his will. She will reportedly allege that they were retaliated against by President Trump and his brother Robert and Maryanne, including the cutting off of medical benefits for their nephew’s son who suffers from cerebral palsy.
Maryanne Trump Barry was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, an appointee of President Bill Clinton. The inclusion of her in the book’s allegation could pull her into any NDA litigation. She took senior status on June 30, 2011 and then inactive status two weeks after President Trump’s inauguration. When she retired, there were allegations that she had engaged in fraudulent tax schemes with her siblings. However, that investigation was never complete. Notably, the allegations involved efforts to limit estate tax and gift tax liability stemming from Fred Trump’s real estate enterprises. She (nor her sibling) were ever found to have acted improperly in the matter.
President Trump is threatening litigation over his niece’s book and insists that the NDA is a “very powerful one. … It covers everything.” New reports state that it certainly covers “anything regarding the litigation or her relationship with Donald, Maryanne, and Robert.”
Any litigation could not only address the book itself but any disclosures make to the New York Times. In that way, it adds added element for a court. President Trump could seek evidence on communications with the The New York Times as relevant to violations of the NDA — discovery that would likely be steadfastly opposed by the newspaper. The possibility of pulling the newspaper into the case and its discovery could be an added incentive for President Trump. What is clear is that one of the most pronounced and curious parts of President Trump’s legacy will be left on the law of nondisclosure agreements. This is an area that is fast becoming virtually synonymous with Trump and his presidency.
104 shot, 14 fatally, over Father’s Day weekend in Chicago
Five children were among the 14 people killed, including a 3-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl killed in separate shootings in Austin on Saturday.

Chicago saw its highest number of gun violence victims in a single weekend this year with 104 people shot across the city from Friday evening to Monday morning, 14 of them fatally. Five of those killed were minors.
The weekend saw more shooting victims but less fatalities than the last weekend of May, when 85 people were shot, 24 of them fatally — Chicago’s most deadly weekend in years.
In a Sunday news conference, Chicago Police Supt. David Brown reflected on the surge in gun violence. “Bullets don’t just tear apart the things they strike,” Brown said. “Bullets also tear apart families. Bullets destroy neighborhoods and they ruin any sense of safety in a community.”
Chicago needs more guns! ..Not..!!
I used to go to the Lake County gun show regularly. One of the biggest in the country at the time. Very little illegal gun violence problems at the time in Lake County. Gobs of guns. Actually there are manufacturers in Lake county which have geared up and produced tens of thousands of weapons with no effect on crime whatsoever, guns that are scary looking “assault weapons” but almost never the type used in crimes. I won’t elaborate on who or which ones. Maybe he’s been flying under the radar and I don’t want to bring one of my old buddies into the wrong sort of attention.
It’s various elements of the citizens of Chicago who are unruly and socially bad behaving that causes crime.
and the Mayor’s policies that are manifestly incompetent. Not the guns. They sit in a drawer and don’t fire themselves.
Seth you fool! Of course all the US needs more guns/Const. Carry.
All you Commie/Nazis types have done banning guns in places like Chicago is that now only the criminals have guns.
Lawful citizens with more guns equal Less Crime.
There’s only one thing Trump can do, have Trump’s personal lawyer and consigliere Bill Barr have the taxpayers pay for an investigation. Hell, Trump not gonna pay for it himself.
“Donald Trump defended Saudi’s Mohammed bin Salman over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi to keep the spotlight off revelation Ivanka was using private email account [for government business], John Bolton claims”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8433661/Bolton-says-Trump-defended-Saudi-Crown-Prince-Khashoggi-murder-distract-Ivanka-scandal.html
And Ivanka isn’t the only one using private accounts for government business.
No doubt you’re concerned about this too. /s
That was supposed to have been posted as a reply to Squeeky’s comment about Hillary Clinton, but instead posted unthreaded due to a periodic tech glitch that’s apparently a Firefox / WordPress interface problem.
Isn’t setting up your own private email server kind of the Ultimate21st Century NDA??? I mean, Hillary even kept her government work where it could never be disclosed.
And, to echo some of the anti-Trump people here, why did she set that up unless she had something to hide???
Enquiring minds want to know!

Jonathan: Internecine family fights occur in many families. But Trump’s fight with his niece, Mary Trump, over her soon to be released “kiss and tell” book (move over John Bolton!) reaches a new low in family disputes. Mary’s book should add to the portrait of a President consumed with vengeful retaliation against anyone, including a family member, who reveals the dark side of his personality. Trump’s cutting off medical benefits for Mary’s nephew who suffers from cerebral palsy, is a new low even for Trump.
In your post you mention Maryanne Trump, Trump’s older sister, who has thus far avoided much media attention. Last year, Judge Trump retired 10 days after she was notified that complaints had been filed alleging she participated in a fraudulent scheme, with her siblings, to escape taxes. According to the complaints the Trumps avoided gift and inheritance taxes by setting up a shell company, of which Judge Trump was a co-owner, which siphoned cash from their father’s real estate empire by marking up purchases already made by Fred’s employees Judge Trump never explained why she retired shortly after the complaints were filed but no doubt she wanted to protect her state pension of $200,000 per year. The investigations of the complaints against Judge Trump were eventually dropped without adequate explanation. Quid pro quo? Had those investigation been pursued perhaps a window would have been opened into how the Trumps fraudulently manipulate the tax system to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. No wonder Trump fights like hell to avoid releasing his tax returns!
By the way, Trump’s first foray on the campaign trail in Tulsa this weekend didn’t go so well. Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager, had promised Trump huge numbers of attendees. Parscale told Trump over a million people had reserved tickets. As it turned out only about 6,000 loyal supporters showed up in a venue with a 19,000 capacity. Parscale had egg on his face. That’s because some enterprising pranksters on social media called in large numbers and reserved tickets with no intention of attending the rally. Parscale lamely claimed “protesters” prevented access to the venue. Parscale violated the first principle of a media person: Never over promise what you can’t deliver. Trump was is livid at Parscale. Expect a major re-organization in the Trump campaign in the days to come!
They need to defund the police now!

2 killed and 12 injured in North Carolina shooting at block party, police say

Jennings said the gathering was an extension of a Juneteenth celebration earlier in the week.
“The results of it just kind of got out of hand, and it was something that we never want to see either as a community or as a police department, so it’s very, very unfortunate situation,” he said.
It’s my observation that numerous families have unwarranted infighting and pettiness directed towards those most undeserving.
Especially when it comes to matters of inheritance. You often see people at their absolute worst.
Bill Clinton & Donald Trump: identical twins

How Trump Is Just Like Bill Clinton
Trump’s tactics…. are almost indistinguishable from the 42nd president’s.
Stormy Daniels could have stepped right out of the 1990s.
She would have been a natural in a Bill Clinton scandal, and, in fact, all the same means would have been used against her.
Donald Trump’s tactics in these cases are almost indistinguishable from the Clintons’. The effort to shut down the accusers, the unconvincing denials, the legal maneuvering, the sleazy fixers, the media allies trying to sweep it under the rug — it’s all there.
How would a semi-confession affect Melania Trump? Compared with Hillary Clinton, who was part of her husband’s political operation and participated in his defense against female accusers, she is an innocent bystander. The first lady surely knew she wasn’t marrying Mitt Romney, but she didn’t sign up for the daily humiliating reminders that her husband probably cheated on her.
As the governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton wasn’t the celebrity that Trump was, so he had to settle for dalliances with Little Rock lounge singers and low-level government workers — porn stars and playmates were out of his reach. But the basic picture is the same.
“Melania Trump … didn’t sign up for the daily humiliating reminders that her husband probably cheated on her.”
LOL. Trump openly cheated on Ivana Trump with Marla Maples and had already been accused of sexual assault and sexual harassment before marrying Melania. If Melania didn’t know that she was marrying someone likely to cheat on her and where that info would become public news, she wasn’t paying attention.
Look Squirrel!
While Bill and Donald were doing young girls on Lolita Express, you think Hillary did Melania or did Hillary do Donna Brazile and Melania went shopping?
Because a commitment to honest discussion sets you free… or not
A commitment to honest discussion doesn’t require me to make conjectures.
Melania knew, when she got up on the catwalk, that she was putting herself up for sale. Trump looked them over and said, “I’ll take that one.” It’s just that simple. When it comes right down to it, there’s nothing else in Trump’s life but Trump. The photo of him climbing into Air Force One with Barron walking behind says it all. It was raining and Trump had the umbrella. As for Barron, tough.
You have to wonder about Melania: was it really worth it? She applied to some Slovenian college and was accepted, but never showed up to register. Instead, she began modeling, including posing for soft-core lesbian porn photos and cheap, semi-nude photos. How long before someone shows Barron what his mother looks like naked? Then, she got involved with the high-roller party scene where she hooked up with Trump. Now, she can buy all of the designer clothes and Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik shoes she wants, she never has to work, but she can never get back her youth or dignity. Reportedly, she had to negotiate with Trump to allow her to have just one child. She had to promise not to gain weight, and to get everything back to pre-pregnancy appearance. At or near the time of the Billy Bush “Access Hollywood” tape, she had Barron. Her husband was bragging about being able to grab womens’ external genitalia. She was about to have or just had a baby.
She has allowed herself to be nothing more than an accessory. She appears, to me at least, to be very sad, but then, it was the choices she made. If she had proceeded with prioritizing her education, she might be married to a nice Slovenian man and would probably be happier.
Donald Trump wasn’t voted into Office by We The People because he knew what fork to eat his salad with…
But rather sits in the Oval Office in the White House
Because he fights!!!
…and that to We The People is refreshing to have a President that stands his ground for us … 🇺🇸 We The People 🇺🇸
OK. I feel compelled to redirect people like “hocuspocus3” to factual reality. “WE”, meaning American voting citizens, did NOT elect Trump. He LOST the popular vote. His fat ass is in our White House because he cheated his way in, with help from Russians, to whom he is beholden. Read the Mueller Report. Trump’s campaign did internal polling and determined which precincts in which swing states would help sway the Electoral College vote, which was the only way he could get in. The polls were not wrong: they couldn’t take into account the cheating that was going on. Russian hackers then directed lies on social media to voters in these precincts. Bear in mind: the posts about Hillary Clinton were full of lies. More Americans: 1. voted for Hillary Clinton; 2. disapprove of Trump since his invalid occupation of our White House, in historic numbers, and for an historic length of time (he’s never broken 50% approval), and 3. want him gone. Among American values is honesty and integrity. Your chubby hero has neither. He also is no leader. He decimated the booming economy he inherited from Barak Obama, America has proportionally per capita seen more Coronavirus cases than other countries, has done less testing, and our relationships with other countries are in shambles. People have died due to his lack of leadership. He has inconsistently claimed that he’s doing “a fine job” in handling the pandemic, but also that he bears no responsibility.
That fat narcissistic slob is not “our” President. Against whom, exactly, does your hero “stand his ground” and who are the “us” to which you refer? Who is he “fighting”? Media that tell the truth about him? For instance, his endless lying about everything, from the size of his inaugural crowd, that the pandemic will magically disappear, that it will be gone by April, and then there’s the consistent whoppers about creating the best economy ever, which is a lie he continues to repeat. Job growth was higher under Obama. The economy grew more under JFK, Obama and Jimmy Carter. Real wages (adjusted for inflation), rose more slowly under Trump than Obama. Trump’s GDP, before he killed the economy, was the same as Obama’s.
His arrogance is nauseating. What American President has ever tear-gassed American citizens peacefully protesting police brutality, after it was reported that he was hiding out in a bunker, and wanted to appear macho, walking to a church and posing, holding a Bible? How about his comments on Saturday praising what he thinks are his good looks?
It’s hypocrisy to say that Pres Trump is now a legacy of NDA when We have seen how the previous administration created bald-faced lies using the power of the federal government against those they hated and to protect from prosecution those they favored. Shutting down liars is a necessity after seeing the corruptions of the previous administration. How is it possible that a person who “bleac-bitted” a government server used by HRC is allowed to go free? How is it that a women who used the power of the IRS to intimidate and punish conservatives got to retire without paying a price? How is it that multiple people lied repeatedly to the American public about an absurd claim of collusion (CLapper, Brennan, Comey, Rice, Powers) and they are scot free.
It is a sad commentary on Trump that he feels he needs a blanket NDA with his own family.
No. Trump has an NDA because he understands human nature.
One truism of human nature is that if you have something of value and you refuse to defend it, then other humans will take it.
Currently, businesses are being looted because neither the owners nor the government will defend the property against those who want to take it.
In this case, the niece wants to breach the NDA so she can cash in. She is the scoundrel. Trump is simply enforcing his rights and defending what is his.
Wherever there is a will there is a relative. ..
Trump is so ashamed of the things he does that non disclosure agreements are an element of every one of his relationship. If he’s done nothing wrong NDA’s would be unnecessary.
Spoken like someone with zero experience in business or government.
Tell us, DV, do people like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffett litigate NDAs all of the time, like Trumpy Bear does? It has nothing to do with business or government. Trump is a thorough crook, liar, cheat and narcissist who screws over everyone, including family members, former wives, business associates, contractors, and porn stars and nude models he gets involved with. It’s because Trump is such a turd of a person that he’s constantly in some conflict or another, most brought on by his narcissism and abuse of others.
I am so tired of all of these tell-all books. Every administration has to suffer through them– except Obama, the most shielded and sheltered weak man in America. They always are motivated by a mean spirit, especially the intra-family ones, egged on by those who can profit from people willing to say anything about anyone in order to bask in their fifteen minutes of fame. And, the number of people who have bought into the massive propaganda aimed at building hatred toward Trump provides a ready market for the trash.
You characterize these books as “people willing to say anything,” but you don’t quote anything false. As long as the claims are true, the country is generally better off with information about presidents being public (with some exceptions, e.g., if there’s good reason for it to be classified), and people can decide whether or not it’s important.
LOL that you think Obama is “the most shielded and sheltered weak man in America.”
For a contrasting view: “Donald Trump, the Most Unmanly President” — https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/05/donald-trump-the-most-unmanly-president/612031/
“As long as the claims are true, the country is generally better off with information about presidents being public”
Shielding Obama was continuous. All we hear from the left is hypocricy. The claims kept hidden about Obama were far more deleterious to Obama than any claims against Trump. Most of the stuff about Trump has nothing to do with him being President. Those things about Obama would have revealed far more damaging things to his administration whether personal or professional.
Even Bolton’s book that deals with the Presidency is likely meaningless when it comes to changing votes. What is he going to say? Bolton would have us in wars all over the place. I think most of the nation left and right will find more agreement with Trump than before even if there is some embarrassment. What is the left going to say…. ‘we should have gone into Libya with more troops’ or ‘we should have nuked Iran’… or ‘we should have started a war with N.Korea and China’?
The left owns the words Hypocrite and Hypocricy.
What is “NDA”?
Liberty2nd – NonDisclosure Agreement. Usually signed when one is working on a specific project, etc. Or after a lawsuit as part of the settlement.
Wondering why Trump needs an NDA from almost everyone he has contact with!
Because empty threats against high profile individuals are used as a form of extortion. Some people are wannabe extortionists but to those with little accomplishments there is generally very little to worry about.
♠ BLACKMAIL ♠
Every good business runs on NDAs. These things are all over the place.
Donald Trump is a person, not a business.
The Trump Organization is a business, but Donald Trump is not the Trump Organization, and there’s nothing in the article to suggest that it’s a party to the NDA.
Committ – it appears that The Donald runs everything as though it was a business. 😉
You are confusing an organization with individuals.
NDAs are very common amongst those in the public eye or of wealth
Just ask the Hollywood Movie Stars or the Rock n Roll Stars about NDAs
One of the biggest left-wing entertainer to use NDAs is Bruce Springsteen
What normal person needs to have NDA’s with everyone in their life? It can’t be used to cover up illegal activity like the alleged tax fraud. Discovery goes both ways, I’m sure Trump doesn’t want the New York Times lawyers interrogating him. I won’t but Bolton’s book but I’d damn sure buy hers.
“It can’t be used to cover up illegal activity like the alleged tax fraud.”
If it’s covering up tax fraud then the chances are that the one disclosing the information is guilty as well. Otherwise in such a case it is just a sour milk type of complaint.
More Democrat electioneering. Pretty pathetic for a “family member.”
It appears she didn’t get enough of Grandpa Fred’s money… 💰💰💰
Her actions probably tell us why Grandpa Fred may not have left her as much money as she expected. I guess that proves one can’t fool Grandpa all the time. 🙂
